Good Sunday, everyone. We have finally have a dry day on tap across Kentucky. Let me say that gain… we FINALLY have a dry day across Kentucky!! Our weather is much chillier out there today and things get quite a bit colder in the coming week. This colder air should also bring the potential for some light snow by Tuesday.
Highs today will range from the upper 30s and low 40s in the north and east to the mid and upper 40s in the west and far south. Skies will become partly sunny. Yes, I know… that’s kinda hard to believe.
Clouds will increase on Monday as winds gust up ahead of our system diving in from the northwest. I’m not going to rehash my thoughts from previous posts detailing how impressed I am with the upper level energy. It’s like to spawn rain showers ahead of the cold air push Monday evening.
A strong northwesterly flow then kicks in Tuesday and Wednesday and that means wintry weather. A period of light snow will develop by Tuesday morning with snow showers and flurries kicking into high gear after that. Those may be rather common across central and eastern Kentucky Tuesday and Wednesday. The GFS continues to come into line with my ideas on that…
You can even see some lake moisture giving a little boost to the our flakes. Given the setup, I’m actually thinking some light accumulations may be possible across the eastern half of the state. The GFS is warming up to the idea of some light accumulations…
The northwesterly flow has the potential to overachieve in this type of a setup and could produce flakes in the east through Thursday. In the overall scheme of things, this really isn’t a huge deal. But, it’s all part of a pattern that continues to skew colder during a time the overall setup would favor milder.
By the way… the new European Model goes crazy with the upper low and keeps it hanging around through NEXT weekend. Check this out…
It actually brings it back to the west and southwest during that time. That’s wild!

It’s all Good! As long as there is on rain (or freezing rain\ice), I couldn’t care less what it does. Sunshine, cold, flakes or warmth….any combination is welcome so this is a good forecast.
