Good evening everyone. A wintry mix of rain, sleet and snow will be moving northward into the region this evening and continue overnight. Even with temps in the 40s early this evening… our dewpoints are in the teens meaning therrmometer readings will crash toward the low and mid 30s shortly after precip starts falling.
A slushy accumulation of sleet and snow will be possible across the north and east. I can see where some folks could pick up an inch or two out of this. But again… temps are likely to stay at or just above freezing so significant travel problems are not likely.
Here is the radar to track the precip…
Help us out by posting the weather where you live. Take care.

Just sprinkles and 42 degrees here in North Mercer County
light sleet here in versailles thanks to this dry air.
models starting to hint at something late next week in terms of snow.
Thanks Chris for the update..
18z has ALOT of potential, starting to show NEW hope! Is that a storm train I see? 😉
Could it be the infamous 7 day away snowstorm?? Surely not…..
Light sporadic sleet at Wal-mart on Nicholasville Rd. in Lexington.
just had a moderate sleet shower in campbellsville temp is at 44, had some earlier and temp was at 47….probably the warmest I have ever seen it sleet or snow….pretty neat
Sleeting with some rain mixed in… NW Fayette County, Masterson Station area…
My temp gauge never crossed 35 today and it sure feels like the 30s here. There has been some sleet pellets since 6:00 or so.
Way too much green on that radar. Oh, wait a minute, we’re in central Ky…..the radar is spot on. No changes needed. Let it rain, let it rain. let it rain….(kentucky’s version of the holiday song)
It looks a lot like it has the potential to be a lakes cutter. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but those early runs look very similar to the ones in early December showing a huge snowstorm for the area. Only they come around to showing heavy rain with a few flurries on the backside, which indeed happened.
Boyle County- 43* Precip unknown
Winter Weather Advisories up for Appalachian Mts. N.C. northward.
some ice pellets coming down in Madison County, near Kingston.
Some sleet mixed in with rain since 6:18PM. Temp is 41 degrees at 8:30 in northern Estill County.
No problem here. I go to Indiana and Illinois next week, then Minnesota at the end of the month. One way or another I will see some real snow.
Who knows, maybe being de-Bubba’d for those dates will be the ticket for snow around here;)
Take the snowdome to Minnesota with ya! I’m sure the folks up there wouldn’t mind! 😉
Sleet coming down in Pulaski Co. right now as well
i am getting pumped can’t wait to head up!!! 8-12” per 24 hours through sunday!!! check this out, no doubt i am headed to benton harbor! http://www.crh.noaa.gov/news/display_cmsstory.php?wfo=iwx&storyid=45479&source=0

wet snow falling in Eastern Pulaski Co. been sleeting and snowing since about 8pm…sleet was heavy and put down small accumaltion…as of 10pm…moderate wet snow with temp of 36*
Rain, sleet, and snow coming down here at my house in Pulaski County. Temp is at 38 here, airport says 39. In any event, Isaw snowflakes mixed in with the rain and some sleet. How low do we go tonight, anyone?
Another question…Chris, Bernie, anyone, given the precip is starting now, and the atmosphere will be saturated, does that give our temps a bump downward,a few degrees, or not?
Our local forecast is calling for highs in the mid 40s tomorrow. And when are temps expected to start dropping? Before dark, or after? Just curious, so I will know what I need to take care of at lunch tomorrow. Any info would be appreciated.
Well, since I commented about five minutes ago, temp has dropped at the airport to 37, and it is showing 35 on my back deck now.
I think this precip we are getting now was downplayed too much….if you look at the radar theres alot of precip formed and forming and someone to the east of us i believe is going to get more snow than is in their nws forecast…..only if the temps would drop 6 more degrees even here we could get some, but regardless we set at 38 and slowly falling with moderate rain and very wet snow mixed
JKL put out an 8pm update saying that some of their north east counties in their forecast area could see some snow out of this…with accumulation mostly on grassy surfaces. Due to wetbulb and Dynamic cooling…lookout NE Kentucky..you guys might get a couple inches
Madison County – Berea

i dont think i have ever seen flakes this large, they literally are cotton balls and they are fallin to beat the band
snow in versailles now big flakes.
Currently 1/2 inch of snow in northern clay.
Snowing hard in northern pulaski county roads are slushy and the ground is covered. Changed over from sleet so that tells me that the temps are coming down thru the atmosphere. A busted forecast (no offense chris) would be great!!!!
Nix the “not sticking”… grassy areas are becoming white….

…
Um Mitch
What is going on? It’s POURING SNOW! LOL
Big flakes, ground getting white…

Would be nice to wake up in the morning to a nice surprise, but I guess it won’t last long and turn back to rain sometimes soon.
Snow mixing with moderate rain outside Lawrenceburg near BG

Bubba moved the snowdome?? lol
So when the snow is downplayed and just talk of mostly rain that is when we get snow and lots of it…Coming down big time with snow here in SE Lexington, already covering the ground….
Just came south on I-75 from Richmond and ran into VERY heavy snow in many places. Richmond temps were at 46 and by the time I reached London, the reading was 33. Be careful, the roads are dangerous!!!
temp down to 31 now, anout 3/10 to 1/2” on my deck
Well spoke too soon rain starting to mix in and as fast as the snow began to stick……its about all melted:( What a tease…..Nothin I hate worse than a tease!!!
lexington metro mesonet sites have wet bulbed to around 32 classic evap colling which usally does not beat waa.
Madison County – Berea
Moderate sleet/snow mixed
37.2° FALLING
I mean it is POURING big fat flakes in Lexington! I know it won’t last, but this reminds me of how those old school storms started and lasted 24 hours
If temp was just a couple degrees colder and it snowed like this all night, we’d have a foot in the morning.
Hey folks… If you live in Lex-Area, you may want to look outside…
Streets are now covered, w/moderate snow…
It’s just b-e-a-utiful…!
…
I feel your pain Joe T. Same thing here in Eastern Pulaski Co. Had heavy sleet/snow..went to snow just enough to get a tiny dusting and then the rain started mixing back in and now its all rain with some snow mixing in with a little sleet
Your not kidding, Vinny. Very beautiful snowfall.
snowing in the Richmond-dome!
Bernie, you are hilarious! I’m so glad to see you back on a regular basis. You are so entertaining! lol It has stopped snowing on my side of Laurel County and it’s back to sleet. Just when the grass was starting to turn white too.
NW Lex, Masterson Station…
33º, Dewpoint 32ºF
Everything is now covered w/Moderate Snow…
…
I would imagine it came from the sky…certainly didn’t come from the NWS forecasts…LOL.
Bernie, you are hilarious! You make me lol really! Glad your back!
Some nice size snow flakes coming down on the south end of Bourbon County.
Any of you knowledgeable weather persons out there, please answer this question:
The models will change their minds many times on a storm that is about 9 days away, won’t they?
evaporational cooling won for once over waa.
Chasity, my big fluffy flakes have left me, we are back to sleet now. How about you?
yes, none of them are perfect and it’s fustrating knowing the mistakes models make due to there biases repeatly. that goes for all of them gfs, euro etc.
Still hanging onto snow in this area… Looks like we’ve picked up nearly an inch so far.
north lexington
snow showers
neighborhood roads have light covering
Does this change the thoughts on “wave #2”..??
…
rain now in versailles after snow started to coat some surfaces. the storm late next week has some potential, more than the usual storm seven days away.
Thanks, Mitch. I thought that was true, and the models are not showing the storm on the 7th like they were before.
Maybe the day before the models will be more accurate.
Pouring the snow in Lawrenceburg. No clue what the temp is!
still a dud just snow showers with more coatings. this was handled poorly though by all of the models.
Please explain what makes this storms “potential” different then the usual 7-days-out-miss….??
…
I’m seeing more snow then ice pellets now, I think the transition in Berea is starting. Temp has dropped to 36.9°
New post up.
We just got home in London about an hour ago and we saw 5 or 6 accidents on I-75 just in Laurel County. I-75 was very slick in some places. On the scanner they are talking about working so many wrecks that unless there are wrecks with injuries to let the people involved fill out personal accident reports.
Getting ready to go running here in Richmond. Nothing but wet ground and drizzle.
