Good Sunday to one and all. I will keep this update rather brief since I will have a few more for you guys coming later today. We have a ton of things to get to as our weather pattern as we roll into January is really threatening to become one that is talked about for years to come. December may have only been the warning shot as to what is to come for much of the country! ![]()
In the short term… we have a weak system that will be moving in quickly late this afternoon into the evening hours. This will produce a swath of light snow that can lay down a light accumulation in many areas… especially in the north and east. Ahead of all this… we will likely see some sun to start the day and this will boost temps into the upper 30s and low 40s. You can track the increasing batch of light snow here…
Monday will bring even colder air to the region as snow showers and flurries continue. Highs will struggle to get out of the 20s. There is another little system that dives in Monday night across the east. This may also help to produce some light snows.
That brings us to the middle and end of the week and what is likely to be a winter storm threat for much of the eastern half of the country. The models are all showing this… but they can’t figure out if they want to send out a couple of smaller storms or one monster! That is something they will resolve over the next day or so as all the players get on the field for the models to properly analyze.
Either way… we stand a good chance at getting in on some snow fun from late Wednesday into the New Year’s Weekend. I will get more into that later today so check back.
Have a great day and take care.

Thanks for the update, Chris!
24 frosty degrees this morning
Thanks for the update!
Thanks for the update!!
ahhh…nothing like a good ole cup of coffee and the blog to start the day…:) especially when snow is in the forecast…
Morning Chris and all. thanks for updating, Chris. Yesterday ws a beautiful day, even if it was cold. Looking at the radar this morning, I can see snow off to the northweat, but it looks as if it will miss us here.
Woke up to 28 degrees this morning, and with the sun, it is now up to 30 on my pack porch, and the computer says 32. either way, it is cold. Looking forward to seeing what this week brings weatherwise. Thanks Chris!
Yea. Nothing like coffee with Chris to get your morning started. Heres that little coffee jingle with an added twist: “The best part of waking up is Folgers in your cup and CB on your computer”.
Hmm…check out this eye candy from the 6z run of the gfs 264 hrs. valid thursday jan,7th…

IF THAT WERE TO UNFOLD….FORGET ABOUT THE MEMORIES OF THE 93′ or the 96′ BLIZZARDS…IT WOULD BE BLIZZARD 2010 KY. STYLE !!!! now any other given yr. I would just say yeah what ever.. BUT this month has already thrown 2 HUGE BLIZZARDS OUT!!! so the possibilites are out of this world!!!
Thanks for the update Chris..
As far as the NWS weather discussions, it’s a DISCUSSION, not a FORECAST. They should state ALL potential thunderstorms, rain, snow, or ice?
the trend this winter is for big storms. that run would give Jan 77-78 a run for it’s money and be even more extreme than what even Chris has been leading us to.
there will likely be a storm then and the pattern in the first first part of Jan is favoring colder than normal. so the potential is there for now it’s just fun to look at.
Thanks Chris for the update…looking forward to more later in the day.
Chilly yet sunny morning here in Lawrenceburg.

nam is further west with the precip sheild at 84 hours. with this last storm with reguards to qfp and western extent of qfp nam was the clear winner but tempwise a big bust, so for qfp for now i will watch nam.
snow still to the west today still looks like under an inch everywhere.
one thing is for sure next weekend looks darn cold.
already in the 40s here so much for snow today
40 here in Lex as well. If snow does come, I doubt there will be any accumulation.
It hasn’t stopped snowing up here since noon on Christmas!!! I have gotten my Winter’s worth of shoveling in the last two days and there’s another inch and a half waiting to be shoveled and still coming down! Woooohooooo!
Just my opinion but its looking like it will more than likely be rain. Temps are already working their way up to the mid 40 here in Lexington. I notice that temps seem to have a very hard time getting well below freezing lately. It seems like there has to be about 3 hours of dark before temps dare to drop half a degree from their highs.
who ordered this wind
