Good Friday to all and to all a Merry Christmas! The BIG day is finally here and I am hoping that I have fooled Santa into thinking I have been a good boy all year long. We all know the answer to that one, but a guy can still hold out hope! I want to say a sincere thanks to each of you for everything you do for the blog. I appreciate you all… even the haters.

Let’s keep it brief and only hit the headlines…

1. Big storm across the plains continues to shut down many, many states. This is truly an historic event unfolding for millions of people.

2. For us… rain and wind will be with us to start out Christmas. Gusts to 40 mph will be possible and those could go even higher in the mountains. Rain will be locally heavy and will taper off from west to east later today.

3. Temps will be mild to start with readings near 50. By later this afternoon and evening… thermometers will fall into the 30s as some flurries or light snow showers prevail.

4. The weekend will be much colder. Saturday will see partly sunny skies with the threat for flurries. Sunday has a decent shot to see us put a little snow on the ground as a weak impulse swings through here. Light snow will increase through the day. Highs Saturday will be in the 30s with upper 20s and low 30s for Sunday.

5. More flurries and snow showers will be possible on Monday.

6. I am still targeting the late Wednesday through Friday time period for a possible winter storm threat for this region and much of the eastern half of the country. Every model not named the GFS has been showing this for some time now and the overall pattern is strongly favorable for something to come out of the western Gulf and ride up the east coast. Do the blog a favor and laugh at anyone who uses the GFS for their forecast late next week.

7. January is shaping up to head toward something extreme in terms of both cold and snow for most of the country. December has certainly been historic and the call here is for January to try to outdo what has been going on lately.

I leave you with some cool Christmas lights because that’s how the blog rolls…

Merry Christmas and take care.
