Good Monday to one and all and welcome to a brand new week. We are starting things off on a rather soggy note out there today. If Rainy days and Mondays get you down, this isn’t going to be a very good one as showers and some thunderstorms will be common.

This rain is along and ahead of a weak frontal boundary pushing through here into Tuesday. While the front is wimpy… it does have a nice influx of moisture along it leading to widespread showers and thunderstorms. Take a look at the rain numbers through Tonight coming in from the NAM…

Those are some impressive totals with a few areas topping out between 1 and 2 inches of rainfall.

Temps today will have a tough time getting out of the upper 60s for many areas because of the clouds and rain. Low 70s should be the max for any area getting in on some drying later in the day. I’m looking at you western Kentucky.

Some leftover showers will linger into early Tuesday across the east. Some low clouds will remain as we sneak in some increasing amounts of sunshine boosting high temps into the low and mid 70s.

Another front will then approach the region from the northwest late Wednesday into early Thursday. This front has a nice push of cool air behind it. This front will also pull up some decent moisture from the Gulf of Mexico leading to an increase in showers and thunderstorms.

The trough digging into the Ohio Valley for the middle and end of the week is giving the models fits. They are torn on whether to cut this thing off for several days or to keep it around a few before kicking it on out of town.

Either solution likely means an increase in rain and some thunderstorms from later Wednesday into Thursday to go along with much cooler temps. This cool down will last into, at least, the start of the upcoming weekend and we will likely have a few days in the 60s for highs. My gut says the slower, wetter and cooler solution will likely win out.

I will have updates as needed, so check back. Have a great Monday and take care.
