Good Monday evening gang. Here is hoping the blog finds each of you doing great on what has been a very nice weather day. That is about to change as temps take a Tuesday Tumble which will lead us into a much colder pattern. That will especially be noted this weekend into Christmas Week as our temps go into the tank.
The blog has talked about the pattern being one that gives us a much higher risk for a White Christmas than in normal years. Some of the blog haters seem to disagree. This is from the NWS Louisville’s extended discussion from this morning…
WITH LITTLE OR NO RETURN FLOW TO THE SOUTH DURING THE WEEK…CLOUDS
AND PRECIPITATION ASSOCIATED WITH THE SYSTEM LATE IN THE WEEK WILL
BE LIMITED. SO WHILE IT DOES APPEAR SOME SNOW SHOWERS WILL BE
AROUND FROM LATE FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY…AMOUNTS WILL BE LIGHT AND
IT IS DOUBTFUL THAT THERE WILL BE ENOUGH TO MEASURE…LET ALONE
PROVIDE FOR A WHITE CHRISTMAS.

Forecasting a non White Christmas in Kentucky is really going out on a limb! 
But… given the pattern setting up… I see no way on earth someone could make that call from a week and a half away. Oh well.. to each his/her own. But since the NWS folks never use their names when issuing a discussion or forecast… the blog did some investigating and found the forecasters behind the above discussion…
Something tells me this old guy may actually trump anything the above two cold and snow haters can stir up…

I think you misunderstood chris, while at first it sounds like that, my thinking is they ment the snow from late week would not be enough to provide a white christmas. I’d say are chances are 50-50 now for a white christmas which is pretty good.

Just kidding folks… I have to agree though that’s not a horribly bold call… but this pattern might out gun climatology. We shall see.

ALWAYS check out your forecasts, even tho I am in Bardstown/Nelson Co. area. You prove to always be the most accurate (I should be ashamed of myself…but I DO refer to the ‘locals’, as well!;))
DK/aka Don Kirkpatrick…well, he is married to my hubby’s cousin, Mary Ann…I have never even MET the dude, as I related to mitch, (I think?!) the other day…?! -lol!- however, I DO think it would be pretty nifty to ‘pick his brain’ about some Wx related things?! I also know that MJ is also affiliated w/ LMK…I have absolutely NOTHING against either of ’em??!- I look @ all the NWS discussions…I watch each & every local forecast…I am NOT a “model watcher”, however??!(I don’t understand them, but I DO LOOK @ ’em here & there…I actually see NOO reasoning whatsoever about gaping at something that tends to change w/ every ‘run’??! How can one even come to any conclusions w/ something like that, anyway??! Go figure. I tend to just let my “gut” go w/ whatever I “feel” @ the time…and right now..?!- Weeelll…?!- hmmm..?! I am thinking that this w/e is showing some good possibilities around late Sat/Sun…??! Next week…??!- uncertainty abounds??!- BUT??!!-

well I am with CBC as I been looking at Christmas week since thanksgiving for a big storm to come round, now who knows who gets what but the latest info says there going to be a STORM NEXT WEEK.

I think what the forecaster clearly meant was that the snow we get this weekend, if any, will not be enough to make for a white Christmas….which is a true statement. They did not mean that we won’t necessarily have a white Christmas from a different system.

A glance at the 18Z run of the GFS and “new” GFS shows a storm track suppressed more to the south. However, I agree with Chris…our chances of having snow sometime around Christmas are much higher than average. 🙂
