Good Friday everyone and thanks for hanging with the blog. I have not put in the effort I normally do as I have been in the Big Apple since early Wednesday. The trip wraps up this evening with a flight back home. 
I have seen everything from a big cats win to a crime scene in my hotel driveway in Times Square after NYPD had to open up a can on a guy shooting at them. I literally missed that scene by 5 minutes.
Let’s talk about the weather. Thursday was every bit as cold as we advertised from several days ago with temps that stayed in the 20s with snow showers and flurries coming to an end. Winds made it fell even colder than that as wind chills hit the single digits.
Today will start out with the coldest readings of the young season with low and mid teens and recover into the upper 20s to low 30s this afternoon under partly sunny skies. Track the cold temps right here…

The weekend does not look very pretty as a wave of low pressure passes by to our south. This will throw clouds in here Saturday with some rain and snow developing by the evening hours. This stuff will stick around into most of Sunday as temps come up some likely meaning a chilly rain. Like I said… UGLY!
Monday will be the nicest day of the week as temps warm to near 50. This is ahead of what will be an even colder blast of air coming in for Tuesday into the rest of the week. Will we get a storm to usher in the cold or just a frontal passage with rain showers to snow showers? We will figure that out this weekend. Regardless… it is going to get COLD…
That is a heck of a temp drop on Tuesday!
Looking farther down the road… I would think we get this pattern to ease off just a bit for a few days at some point the next few weeks. But, this should only be temporary as the worst of December is yet to come! It is likely that we get into a nasty wintry period over the last few weeks of the month and this may line up well for Christmas week…

It would be nice to wake up on Christmas morning and have a Christmas story type of storm.
That storm on the 22nd will dissappear about 4-5 days away, and get replaced by a cold rain that is nowhere near the voracity what this map predicts.

I will settle for cloudy and cold for Christmas Eve and Christmas day! Sunny+ Christmas dont make a good combination! lol 🙂 So if I can’t have snow atleast let me have the clouds lol I’m easy to please 🙂 🙂 🙂
didnt take that long here is the 06z run..that storm is gone of course, but this is showing snow for Christmas eve, all over the ohio and Tn.valley…but it also showed snow falling in Orlando florida a couple days prior as well…LOL…

well at least the models are at least PICKING UP on the idea that there COULD BE a storm around CHRISTMAS week…lets just hope by the time it gets here its a cold,snowy storm….:)

Folks, I see the same trends we always see. The systems look promising and then a few days out they are not. Because of a vast wealth of history on the side ot it, I can safely forecast for December we will probably not see much of anything. We may get an inch of snow, but wet willies will be the common theme.
Doubt me now, but be careful getting pumped up only to be let down.
Treat ant actual result as a gift- assuming you want snow.

Folks, once again, systems that looked good a week out now are not. Wet Willy time yet again. Based on this trend that has been around many winters, I suggest our December snow chances are:
1″ events = 70%
2″ events = 35%
3″ events = 17.5%
4″ events = forget about it
Wet Willy = 100% and THEN some! 😉
Well, winter certainly missed it’s chance with our temps this morning! Woke up to 14 here in Somerset on my back porch. Had a big enough frost to make you think it is a light coating of snow! 😉 (Ah well, we snow deprived people will resort to ANYTHING to get our fix! 😉 )

It really doesn’t seem to matter where a system passes by, north, south, east or west, it will always warm up and rain, then get cold with a few wimpy snow showers on the back end at best, or it will miss us entirely. Welcome to the new normal. I think 11 years, going on 12 now is enough to say that our weather here has fundamentally changed, or we just got spoiled in the past with unusually cold and snowy weather! 🙁
Don’t tell anybody, but it’s cold! brrrr! It took awhile to get my car thawed out this morning, but I still made it to work early. White Christmas sounds beautiful!

here’s a thought, depending how warm it gets today and tomorrow..rain is gonna be falling on ground that has been below freezing for well over 24 hrs. now, and cloud cover has moved into southern ky..which could hold temps down some today down here..I know the frost is sure hanging on tough…
11 degree low here this morning at my house! At some point we are bound to get moisture and cold at some point even if its just to get 1-2” clipper event.

I agree Tim, Global warming is a big joke and just something for the govt to make money off of and try to use as an excuse to make new laws to give govt more control….thats all it is about! weather patterns go in cycles and the day will return to us again where we see the big snows and cold winters like the 70’s and 90’s….the 1930’s according to records was similar to what the 2000’s have been so our day is coming I believe for the big snows to return

The 00’s is when central and SE KY fell off a cliff for big snows. “Big” snow is not 3″ for us, if we consider frequency of relative events. Seems like our snow has been displaced everywhere around us 🙁 I guess if you do not like snow, it would be 🙂

Well, another good reason to believe in Global Warming is the fact that Al Bore stated that the earth’s core is at a temperature of MILLIONS of degrees! What with a small star at the core of the planet, how could we not be warming up? 😉

this sounds like Fox News or a GOP rally with all this “Global Warming is a lie!” talk.
It is true the earth goes through natural cooling and warming cycles. there is data to supports the claim that since the industrial revolution the overall global temperature has risen at an unnatural level. call that “global warming” or “climate change or whatever you want, but there is evidence its occurring.
saying global warming was concocted by the government to make money is foolish. gov. agencies are funded so they can enforce their regulations. its possible the EPA might get more funding, but i guess clean water and air and reducing pollution is a bad thing.
The Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO/UCSD) first documented the rise in CO2 levels within the atmosphere in the 1950’s. To say that it was created by liberals, the government or Al Gore recently as money maker or talking point simply does not make sense.
I said this very thing a few days ago and people were laughin under their breath 🙁
one more thing.
it would be unreasonable to say that with the amount of cars emitting CO2, the decades of sustained burning of fossil fuels and the amount of pollution created simply by the sheer volume of people in the world would not have some sort of impact on the planet. whether or not thats “global warming” per se, i dont know. but no one can argue it does not have an effect on the planet.
I guess you have not herd of climategate have you? If the facts that globalwarming is so evident then why in the world would some of the top sceintest in the world put forth false infomation supporting their ideals? No one can tell me that this decade is one of the warmest on record. Ive lived in this area for a long time and i can tell you its been cool compared to the summers of the 80’s and 90’s. Go back and read some the journals people wrote in the old days where they was no automobiles and powerplants. It was hot then. I think some people have to much so called education and no common sense is my thought on the matter.

I never said it was not hot hundreds of years ago or a few summers ago for that matter. I’m simply offering the proposition, supported with evidence, the earth is warming (be it at a VERY slow)rate, but yet faster than natural warming cycles. A few tenths of a degree or so over years can have huge implications on the planet. Is it noticeable to you and me, probably not. In the past few decades, the earth’s average temp has risen .2 degrees. Most people wouldn’t notice if their thermostat moved from 70.0 to 70.2 degrees in few minutes, compared to thirty years. But stretch that gradual .2 rise out over enough time and it can cause quite an impact.
Yes, I’ve heard of “climategate” and think what Dr. Phil Jones did was ridiculous. Any scientist would immediately destroy the credibility of themselves and their work if such allegations were true. However, to immediately dispel global warming because of one bad scientist would be illogical. That would be like saying the theory of gravity doesnt exist because some scientist fudged his data for whatever reason.
There is plenty of evidence from hundreds of other reports and scientists that show the climate is getting warmer at a rate that is faster than normal cycle. Coincidentally, 2009 is set to globally be the 5th warmest on record.
If “climategate” is what youve based your opinion on and you don’t believe it, thats fine. But you really need to look at those who have so adamantly denied it for so long…companies in the fossil fuel game (oil, coal, etc) people with something to lose…money.

theres no way 2009 is the 5 warmest on record. We hardly hit 90 but just a few times this summer. I think this global warming thing is hogwash. Al Gore has made millions getting up in front of everbody and hollering his nonsense. People just dont understand what it takes to make this world go round.

18z looks to be mild & rain for the next 0-120 hr frame.. COLD air is gonna relax for a few days like Chris posted.. then looks like clipper mania will start afterward. Last few runs has been pretty similar. I’d say this next wave will lock us in for the winter for the cold, now if we can get that southern stream active again in time for Christmas! 😉
not the 5th warmest for KY, but the 5th warmest globally. the temperature doesn’t have to be over 90 in KY for the AVERAGE temperature for the earth and for the year, to be the 5th warmest on record.

I just have one question…..If the earth is only warming .2 degrees in Thirty years, meaning it would only rise just over half a degree in most peoples lifetime, then why has the government gotten so involved with establishing new laws to give them more control????? most of them will be dead and gone by the time the earth warms a fourth of a degree. Theres people doing all kinds of immoral acts and the government is worried about 0.6 degrees in 90 years…..it’s (Global Warming) a lie! the next thing we will hear is Obama wants to take our guns away because they omit co2, and lead dust leading to combustion in the atmosphere causing the earth to considerably warm less than 1 degree in the next 120 years….LoL….come on people use some common sense

Gus theres lots of things you obviously don’t follow….if you would dig into your Good ol black book and realize that God has everything in control, and he isn’t going to destroy the earth, or his people until he has taken the ones that belong to him out of here. Then the earth will go through lots of tribulation, so the best thing is to be ready to go to heaven when Jesus Comes back. The bible plainly says God hath ordered the seasons and put them in order so that knocks down the global warming lie. The problem is people are trying to figure things out and all it is is the Earth is groaning For His return because of the evil among people….murders, stealing, sexual sins etc.. have grown because people have seperated church and state and God is going to come back and get the ones that have stayed true to him. Theres no need to make things “Green” to the extent the govt is trying to take this. yes we have to be careful and take care of the earth but God will take care of his so the best thing is to be ready for his return and living right then you don’t have to worry
