Good Sunday to one and all. Our snow day is now behind us and we are seeing the coldest temps of the young season out there today to start things off. I am tired so I will keep this post short and to the point!
That is how you guys like it anyway. haha
Temps are in the teens to start things off this morning and you can track the lows near you courtesy of the fine folks at Kentucky Mesonet…
Morning Lows
Skies will be partly to mostly sunny as highs reach the mid and upper 30s.
A weak system will move through here quickly on Monday and will produce a touch of light wintry precip. It doesn’t look to have a lot of juice, but we will keep an eye on it. Highs will be upper 30s to low 40s.
A big storm will crank up across the plains and ride into the Ohio Valley late Tuesday into Wednesday. This will increase our rain threat late Tuesday and we have a shot at seeing a touch of wintry stuff as it starts out across the north and east. Whatever it is to start… it will go to rain. Temps and wind will increase into early Wednesday as this low passes nearby to our north. Once it goes by… cold air crashes in. Check out the GFS…
Wednesday Morning
Wednesday Evening
I still expect the low going through the Ohio Valley to transfer more energy to a coastal low off the Mid Atlantic or New England coastline. Again… Cat fans going to New York on Wednesday may have some delays because of this storm. Plan on some nasty weather for Wednesday. Yay… I can’t wait to fight a mix to rain and wind in NYC!!! ![]()
The overall pattern is loaded with potential as some wicked cold air is on our side of the pole and will combine with an active southern storm track for a lot of fun this month. Jump on the train folks! ![]()
Another update coming later today. Take care.

Good morning, and baby its cold outside. It is currently 19 degrees in Pikeville.Am I the only one up??????Where is Rolo Where is Tim Andy all of you lol?? On a unrelated weather note have any of you heard that coyates are bad right now and getting cats? I am still in search of mine and someone said that yesterday so i thought someone might know. Thanks and stay in and stay warm guys.
seems i have heard the Coyotes more here lately than i remember in the past
oh an 17 here btw
15 balmy degrees in Wilmore!
Morning to all. It is clear here this morning, with a toasty 18 degrees!
there are coyotes in these parts, too, but I don’t know about the cat question. It makes sense to me, but my neighbor has sesveral that come over there to eat, as well as a few of her own, and they are all accounted for at this time. Crystal I hope you find yours soon!
Have a GREAT day everyone, Check in later.
It’s 19 at my house in Jessamine County right now. About the coyotes and cats… yes, they will go after cats. I saw it myself. I was driving down a road near my house and had to slam on the brakes when a cat ran across the road in front of me, heading for a tree. A second or two behind him came a coyote,in full run. Hope your find your cat and everything is okay.
It’s cold here, too, 18 degrees (East Point).
they killed all of my mother in law’s cats….
New GFS and old one are battling long term now.. I think most people here will like the new one ;)…………….. OLD GFS http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod/analysis/namer/gfs/12/images/gfs_pcp_276l.gif …………………………….. NEW GFS http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwpara/analysis/namer/gfs/12/images/gfs_pcp_276s.gif
thats a big difference but to far out to care either way
Thanks for the info though
Here on the west side of Frankfort, the temperature bottomed out at 15.4 degrees this morning.
Crystal …I’m agree with Faye. Coyates are really bad gettting into chicken coops and such so I’d say a cat wouldn’t be safe either. Sorry!
No problem man, huge difference, but it is worth watching, one has consistent cold and snow chances, while the other has it warming up and the cold on this side vanishing… Even if it is far out, it can still be a good indicator of upcoming patterns. Go new GFS!
well one snow down, and hopefully more to come… getting off to a great start down here in the south…3″ and counting now…lol…my luck it will be the biggest of the season..LOL…
So far, including Saturday’s snow and the upcoming week, December looks average to me. Does anyone know what the average temperature and snowfall is for central and eastern kentucky?
I am seeing coyotes frequently. Several of my coworkers have seen one around the New Circle-Newtown Pike ramps the past few weeks. I saw one chomping on a dead deer just below Hamburg along I75.
Any updates on freezing rain for Tuesday night?
i believe the steelers may be done
roads still snow covered here. i dont know how safe that is for school monday
lol…
That’s an understatement…
Go WILDCATS..!
Very little melting here at Dorton, still have about 3-4 inches of snow on the ground. What has melted is re-freezing.
Still have a skiff of snow in the shadowy areas in Lexington. It is hanging around for another one.
yeah, and the county is not many making an attempt to even salt the roads. i dont know how they will have school safely.
Where is WXman at today? He usually has some input on the forecast.
Also where is Vinny? He might be in hiding after his Steelers lost again. Steelers look like they won’t make the playoffs? Playoffs? Playoffs? Whose talking ’bout the playoffs?
Whodey!!!!!!!
I’ve heard that saying and was actually thinking the same thing today…down here in southern ky. temp. made it to 38* and sunshine, and snow is hanging around tough!!!…hmmmm…do we get early morning suprise tomorrow???or does it wait til its warm enough to rain during the day??? I guess we’ll see
Boyle County- Saturdays liquid precip measurement here was .04″ which translates to about .4″ of snow.
Steelers is depleted with too many injuries, they be lucky to win 1+ more games. 🙁
first off VINNY is fine, the STEELERS have won 2 title RECENTLY, so a down year is nothing.
dont forget this RAIDERS team beat WHO DY as well.
with that said the BENGALS are not a BIG TIME TEAM yet because today they played like crap.
I root for BENGALS though as far as hope they can get a good team finally. not life or death though is they lose.
now the its sticking around waiting on another one in refering to snow is a old, old saying but not the day after a event.lol
now if we get to maybe tuesday and their still snow u can use that saying. I mean not even 48 hours since the snow fell.
well this week nothing but nothing as farrr as winter goes, but the next week has potential around the 15-17 time frame or so.
so we keep a eye on the model runs as we get closer.
Coyotes love to eat cats. They will also go after dogs, like what happened to Jessica Simpson’s little dog. Coyotes can climb fences so leaving a dog outside is not a good idea. It goes without saying that chaining a dog is just asking for a terrible thing to happen. I hope your cats are okay.
I’m not liking the wind forecast for Tuesday. 🙁
Does anyone have any predictions for tonight? Will there be in freezing drizzle or will the small amount of precip make it here sometime during the day on Monday?
To all the “Coyote Curious”…
YES!!!- Coyotes will go after cats…or dogs…yrs. ago I had to give my dog to a friend of mine(my little cousin next door was mean to the dog-the dog hated the child-long story!)He lived a good life out on that farm for about 2 yrs. until one evening, a coyote got him (he was a German Shep.mix/lg. dog, too?!)Up t that pont, I really had never heard of coyotes being in Nelson Co.?!:(
Also…beware of owls, as they WILL prey on outdoor cats! My aunt in OKklahoma has had 2 or 3 of her cats fall prey to hoot owls…one night, she heard a terrible squalling/screaming, and ran out to find this pile of yellow hair….??!- Then saw the owl, heard her cat squalling as the owl carried it off…(ehttp://www…shivers...)-she tells me that actually the ONLY COLOR cat they WON’T bother is GRAY cats??!- apparantly, the owl’s eyesight is such that a gray cat will NOT show up in it’s night-vision..??! I live in town, and this year is the first time I’ve ever really HEARD owls, so I always try to bring my outside cat inside. My aunt also told me that an owl carried off one of her sis in-law’s dachshounds, too?!:( She said you wouldn’t think they’d be strong enough to to pick up something heavy, but they CAN & WILL?!
Tim I am orginally from Pulaski County. I always have believed in the old weather sayings. They seem to always have some truth in them.
west of 1-75 there’s a chance any precip will be under .05 inch meaning even if it were all snow a dusting at best.
I been reading some of the point n click forecasts for central ky. and central and western ky.,and TN. snow/freezing rain/drizzle forecasted overnight to almost the I-75 corridor..
Nashville forecasting snow/sleet for west and central tn. overnight with little or no snow accumulation.. and by the looks of the radar precip. is moving in from the west and trying to show up on radar in central tn. right now..so there may be flurries, sleet, drizzle in the morning….
…………………..
WIll there be a SNO-GO day tomorrow???…I HOPE NOT…Christmas vacation coming up and a total of 16 days the kids will be home…so We dont need any sno-go days right now..LOL..LOL..LOL…sorry kids, daddy needs to keep what little bit of sanity he has left……:)
I meant to say almost all the counties (WEST) of the I-75 corridor…
