Good Wednesday everyone. A serious blast of fall is on the way over the next few days for much of the country as record setting cold invades. This will be a big player in our weather as we close out this week and jump into the weekend.
The action gets started today as a powerful cold front dives in from the northwest. This front will touch off scattered showers and thunderstorms into this afternoon as winds crank up. Highs today will top out in the low 80s for many with warmer temps in the south.
A wave of low pressure will develop along this front as it works through here overnight. This will increase the coverage of the showers and thunderstorms. A few strong storms will be possible this evening with the best chance in the west. Showers would then continue into early Thursday before we begin to dry things out a bit during the afternoon. This setup will bring some much needed rains to the western and northern parts of the state.
Low clouds and chilly winds will be around for Thursday as temps hold steady in the low to mid 60s for highs. This is the start of a very chilly period that will carry us into early Saturday. Take a look at the forecast highs from the GFS..
Those readings are more typical of early November instead of the middle of September. Low temps Friday into Saturday will really tank and may approach record levels around here if we can clear the skies out. The NAM Model is going all in on the cold mornings…
Looks like mother nature wants to give your friendly weather dude some record lows for his birthday on Friday.
Record lows around here are in the low 40s for Friday and Saturday. Also of note… check out all the areas in the 20s and 30s for lows on that map. An early goodbye to the growing season is in order for lots of places to our north.
Our weekend is looking great as high temps return to the 70s. We will need to watch later Sunday for the possibility of a little bit of moisture returning. Looks like much of that should hold off into early next week.
Let’s track today’s scattered showers and storms…
Have a great Wednesday and check back for updates. Take care.
