Good Friday everyone. Today is the busiest shopping day of the year as millions of people will be making a mad dash to the malls and shopping centers to save 20 cents on a 50 inch plasma tv! 
The weather today should have everyone in the Christmas and Holiday spirit and ready to spend some cash. A taste of winter is in the air with a full helping likely coming as we roll through December.
Many areas picked up the first flakes of the season Thanksgiving evening into the overnight. A few more snow showers and flurries will be around into the first half of today and you can track them here…
Highs today will range from the upper 30s in the east to low 40s central and west. Winds will still be kicking up a little bit leading to an extra chill in the air.
The weather for the weekend looks good! Highs will return to the lower 50s for Saturday and Sunday under partly sunny skies.
This will bring us into the new week and a week that will continue our step down into what is likely to become a harsh wintry period into December. We have a couple of systems to deal with next week. The first one comes at us Monday into Monday night as a weak low shears out northeastward into the region. This should bring a chilly rain to us Monday that ends as some light snow or flurries Monday night.

The main storm waits to come out of the southwest Wednesday into Thursday. The models are not in total agreement with the eventual track. The GFS is a bit farther east while the European is farther west…

After this… the pattern is going to go really cold for much of the country and this is likely to happen with an active southern storm track! December is going to be a lot of fun!

the CFS has Decemeber temps over 5*F below normal, it will be intresting to see what the EURO weeklies forecast is.

That has to be one of the most chauvanistic things I’ve heard in a long long time. Is that really the mentality in Eastern Kentucky still?
I got them yesterday. They show large 850 cold anomalies centered along the lee side of the Rockies and into the central plains. This slowly oozes eastward with the bulk of the cold air coming in this part of the country between 12/8 – 12/14. After that…a milder pattern looks to setup as we head toward Christmas.
The 850 anomalies are about -1.5 to -2.5 in week one (12/1-12/7) and then they drop to -3 to -5 for 12/8-12/14. The bulk of the cold air is forecast to be just NW of here.
The operational Euro solutions also continue to show a large cool spell in the 2nd to 3rd week. The southern stream is also pushed way south…so cold and dry looks likely. Very typical when we get hit with arctic air.
Give us some bad news for a change! 😉

It’s common knowledge on here that this rolo person knows all. He doesn’t care if he hurts feelings or not and I agree, what he said on here is a DISGRACE to women. But then again, that’s just mine and your opinion. This is supposed to be a board to talk about weather, but he continuously uses this to show his ignorance.

It seems like every time you post, it’s something negative about Rolo. As a matter of fact, ever since you’ve been on the blog, you’ve tried to start trouble. Why..?
When this blog first started, it was so much fun… We all cracked jokes, ribbed each other, watched for snow and tried our hand at “forecasting”. We were one big family that shared stories, songs, recipes and prayers. Yeah, it is a weather blog, but more than that, it’s a community blog.
I used to post frequently, but slowed down due to all the negative comments. Who cares if some of us are not as “smart” as you, or maybe use words that are not “Politically Correct”…? We are a family… a group of friends that share stories and ideas… I know that CB, MJ, WXman, Shane & Mitch are all pros at this, but hey, some of us like to take a stab at predicting the weather too…! What’s wrong with that..?
Some of us, (Bubba G, Tommy, Neal, Rolo, Tim) are actually pretty damn good at it… While others, (Vinny), never gets it right, but that’s ok… We all try to have a good time and dream of the big one, or old school or whatever you wish to call it… we are all kids at heart… Is that wrong..? Does that bother you..?
Rolo means no disrespect to anyone… He’s just a country boy that enjoys life and tries to bring a smile to people face whenever he posts with a little humor… My God folks, this why do we continue to beat the man down..?? Just because he was raised a little different then you, or doesn’t speak with the same elegance as some, does not mean we get to bash him over & over… geez…
I for one would not want this blog to be without him… he adds way too much fun to it… I am as hard on WXman as anyone, but I would not want him to leave the blog either… I like the guy.. We disagree from time to time, but hey, that’s what this blog is all about… The freedom to debate…

my optimistic may try and show itself again for this wed-thu system as the 12z euro and jma do show the threat to at least change rain to a period of snow at the end.
thanks for the update, hopefully there will be a southern system that can throw some moisture north when the cold gets here. or there’s always a chance for a southern tracking clipper.

Neh…the DGEX is just the GFS downscaled using the ETA (now the NAM). Skill is not all that great. Just sit back and relax and let the atmosphere do its work. Lots of things have to fall in place for this storm to work out for us…if you want snow that is.
Oh and Vinny, since I’m such a “hater”, I’d also hate to ruin your little clique, even though this is the Internet. I for one will not stand for this type of mentality and those that accept it. This will be the last time I post or even visit this website…ever! Have fun.

14 out of 33 comments posted are about the weather. I guess make it 15 now that my post will be on here. Yes this is a “family,” but the bickering is ridiculous already without a large storm looming. I like the other comments posted by both, but I also have a vested interest in what the weather will bring. This blog used to be fun to read, however, lately, it’s just an aggravation with some of the comments. I don’t post often, but I feel like I’m watching a blog I have followed since BEFORE comments were allowed(WKYT days) become nothing more than a battle ground. Let’s go back to the way it was before.

When you think about it, Wxman, in all actuality, I don’t recall “everybody” claiming it to be the “coldest, snowiest Winter in Years!”…??! OK…SOME ppl thought so?!;) This year, about ALL I have heard is how this winter will be like the late ’70’s??!- Sure, in the past, a lot of peeps have made reference to that era, possibly HOPING it would come to fruuition, and it didn’t…lol!;) I would sit here & HOPE, sure, but did I REALLY think it would happen?! (Nope…lol) This go-’round…??!- let’s just say, “Quite Possibly”, leave it @ that??!;) Not saying that this winter will be equal to/top past winter seasons…I think there’s a better chance of seeing more snowfall this time to rival the late 70’s…?!

HPC-QPF is created by forecasters at HPC manually. All model data is considered when producing the product. Essentially its a human forecast. Depending on the forecast and/or methods employed, the QPF forecast can, and occasionally does mimic model guidance (NAM/GFS/Euro).

yup it’s not as bad as the 00z gfs which builds a high over the southeast and still allows it to go out to sea. I’ve discovered the dgex rarely trends from the 12z gfs run anyway.
