Good Sunday everyone. Dropping in for a little update for you for both the short term and the upcoming holiday week and what will be a transition into winter! ![]()
Let’s start with the NOW as we have a couple of showers moving in across southern Kentucky. Here is what they look like on radar…
The threat for a few showers will increase across much of the state overnight into Monday. The greatest chance will be across the south and southeast.
The change toward winter begins Wednesday as a cold front works through the state with a few rain showers. Much colder air moves in Thanksgiving Day with rain and some snow showers likely. Snow showers will be more likely Thursday night into Friday when a coating of snow cannot be ruled out. All of this happens as a big low pressure forms across the east coast of the US. Watch it play out on the European Model…
Thanksgiving Day
Black Friday Morning
The air coming for the end of the week is cold but is not of arctic origin. That means daytime highs in the upper 30s to around 40 with lows in the upper 20s to low 30s. ![]()
Beyond this week… winter is coming folks and it is going to try to come on like gangbusters for early December! ![]()
More on that coming later tonight with the winter forecast online sometime Monday!!! Take care.

I’m so excited the winter weather is starting to show itself. It’s amazing how Mother Nature can turn around so fast. This morning it started as a sunny day and this evening cool and cloudy! I love watching the weather!!
Chris
Hope you’re cool with me posting this link. Pretty interesting:)

18z GFS shows the potential I’ve mentioned for the 1st timeframe.

Using GFS plots as my guide any accumulation of snow looks to be spotty at best during the Thanksgiving 4 day strectch. Mostly because air temp profiles near the surface look to hold above freezing during precip but borderline enough to still hope. This has changed little over the past 10 days or so. Roughly 1.5 inch of snow could fall from the sky but not likely (in my opinion) to accum…………After looking at plots around Ky. I think the best chance of any accum would be far eastern along the Va./W.Va borders.
(current conditions match what the 12z plots suggested which causes me to trust the GFS presently)
If Marcus B. is correct, you talk about a winter to remember. 50 in. of snow for this winter. I don’t know if we will get 50, but I think it will be the snowiest for the past several years.I’ll take a good ole 77-78 winter again. Those were the good ole winters.
I hope he is! He was CORRECT about the few 90 degree days this past summer. I remember Chris harping on how cool the summer would be as well. He was right, now let’s hope by the time spring comes, we’re all SICK of snow and cold!
That’s still a week and a half away, so it’s a longshot at best. But…certainly is interesting to see repetitive runs of the GFS model showing something big that first week of December. 🙂
Here is the link for Marks Ten Day, a good read. http://www.markstenday.com.
The GFS consistency for the first week of December has to be an eye catcher.. It’s BIG eye candy at this time, but really amazing to see it repeatedly showing the same OLD SCHOOL storm over and over.. but unfortunately we don’t live in NEXT WEEK!! But would be NICE!! lol Another thing I’ve learned if KY is the battleground for the COLD, chances are we get ice or rain!! We want TN or GA to be the battleground for COLD for a change!! Also like Chris said, GFS has a SE bios so that 18z run needs to be a tad more to the SE, but I’m sure it will drop the ball 100x before NEXT WEEK! 😉
WHO DEY CHIEFS & RAIDERS!?? WOW!!
would you please tell what who dey means? I know im showing my igronace but i wish someone would fill me in since ive asked this question before on here with no response.
I am thinking early december may be cold compared to the rest of the winter but i think that the storm near the first is a lakes cutter that brings in the arctic air behind it.
Its the nick name for the Bengals. During their last winning season, someone came up with a chant….”Who Dey….Who dey…..Who dey think’s gonna beat ‘dem Bengals.”
And it’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever herd of…
“Who Dey”? Really… lmao…
GO STEELERS
Whether it comes or not, I’m glad the winter weather excitement is BACK!!!!!
Winter forecast? It’s about time. I’ve been waiting on this forecast since the beginning of spring.
this system is targeted for the first of the next week and is just as strong on the 00z run.
early december 00z runs are still eye candy…. maybe just maybe… i want a white christmas!!! long shot away! but hey let me dream
Eye candy… they might as well be snow lover pornography! Those maps are eye candy and a half… but I don’t even want to think what this blog would be like if they verify.
