Good Monday everyone and welcome to a brand new week. While it may be a new week, we will see something that looks very familiar… another cool shot of air. This is coming for the middle and end of the week as a fall air mass moves into the eastern half of the country.

Before we get to that point, we have a few warm days ahead of us. That gets started today with temps warming toward 80 for much of the region. Areas of western Kentucky will hit the low 80s. There is still the threat for an isolated afternoon shower or thunderstorm… especially in the east.

Tuesday continues to look like the warmest day we’ve had for a while and the warmest we will have for a while. Highs will hit the 80-85 degree range for many. Winds will pick up and afternoon clouds will increase ahead of a strong cold front that swings in here on Wednesday. This front will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to the region from Tuesday night into Wednesday. Temps for Wednesday will come back down with 70s for highs.

The front is being pushed by a very cool shot of air from Canada. Remember a few weeks ago when I talked about the build up of cold air in Canada and said I was pointing it out for a reason? Well… this is the reason as it had to come south into the states and that’s exactly what is happening. This will continue to give us an early taste of fall.

Highs will likely stay in the 60s for a couple of days with the coolest nighttime lows since spring as readings dip down into the 40s. If skies are clear, we could flirt with record lows on a given morning. I am not yet sold on the clear sky thing as a couple of waves of low pressure may skirt across the Tennessee Valley during this time. That may throw some clouds and even some showers our way. MAY being the key word. I will fine tune that outlook over the next few days.

Also coming in the next few days… wait for it… wait for it… some talk of the  winter ahead!

Until then… let’s track the weather of today…

Have a wonderful Monday and take care.
