Good Tuesday to one and all. I am starting to come out of my sickness… but it’s a slow process. I have the Barry White voice going on right now and am thinking about contacting the Arby’s people to do some voice work for them.
The blog title says a lot as we are going to be seeing some chilly early November days for the rest of the week. Mild weather fans… a taste of Indian Summer looks to be waiting in the wings for next week.
Let’s get into it all and break it down for you guys…
– A weak cold front will be crossing the region today and MAY touch off a few sprinkles or isolated showers. Winds will pick up some and temps will be cooler with low 50s for highs.
– We will see a nice little trough digging in across the Ohio Valley into the eastern part of the country through Friday. This has been talked about for a while now. Weak impulses will dive southeastward through here over the next couple of days and each will produce clouds and a scattered shower. You can see what I am talking about here…
500mb GFS Wednesday Evening
– Timing these things will be difficult because they are not that strong nor will they produce much in the way of actual weather. Some scattered showers will be the extent of it. Winds will be rather gusty too giving us a blustery feel for early November.
– Afternoon highs for Wednesday through Friday should be mid and upper 40s with nighttime lows from the upper 20s to low 30s. Any afternoon that has clouds or showers could feature temps below what I am thinking. ![]()
– The weekend as of right now looks great! Sunshine and milder temps return with readings heading toward 60 for Saturday then low 60s Sunday.
Next week should also feature a few days in the 60s… especially early in the week.
– The overall pattern for the end of next week into mid November is and will continue to give the forecast models fits. Trying to figure out how to handle the change of season and an el nino pattern spells troubles for the models. That goes for your friendly weather dude on occasion too! ![]()
I will have another update coming later in the day so be sure to check back. Have a great Tuesday and take care.

Hey Chris when are you going to post your winter outlook? And do you see the potential for a winter storm setting up around here in the near future?
Indian summer sounds fine to me, at least until we can get our new house ready to move into…
Well as you all know I’ve been harping on this pattern for a while now saying it will start turning around to a milder, dryer pattern. I thought it might be December before we really saw the switch…but it still looks like November is actually going to get our warmer/dryer weather kicked off! We need it too!
i just don’t see how there is anyway to know this for sure, i mean we may have a week of mild and dry but rarely in ky does total mild or total cold or total dry total wet dominate. jan 2002 way above normal tempwise, two 7” snows at my house though
Since when does one week signify a change in pattern? Are you suggesting that the rest of the winter will be above average, and dryer than average?
I don’t mind warmer than average, just as long as it comes after deer season.
recent studies have linked October to winter patterns not Nov. this stretch of mild weather due to the positive AO will only serve to strengthen cold air masses when the AO flips for thanksgiving. Actually the last several months have not been all cold like most of us think it has been, here is temp difference from normal for lex.
Oct, Aug and Jul were below while Sept, may and jun were above normal.
Chris you looked like you weren’t feeling well at all tonight on air. Hope you get to feeling better.
Looking forward to a taste of Indian Summer this weekend and next week… but I’m going to be very surprised if it lasts.
moving are we ?
He has been saying December is gonna be warmer and Dryer so he may think he wins because he was off a month LOL
anyone thinking the paradise pattern starting next week should look at the 18z gfs although it’s about a week early in it’s solution. things will turn back around for turkey day to cold.
historically we are getting to the point where our winters will be colder and snowier…..take a look back at the 70’s it was snowy and cold the 80’s were warmer and not as snowy, the 90’s were cold and snowy, now the 2000’s have been warmer and less snow….so we are to 2010 almost and the analog years are matching up with some in the 70’s so maybe the pattern based on this year would seem to flip back to warm and dry, but most of the summers that were cold in the past have led to cold and snowy winters…hopefully thats what we get this time
Already down to 34 here in the “holler”..Coldest morning of the young season obviously on the way.
Well, Chris, today being election day, I am glad that you have “elected” to give us pretty decent weather for the next few days, and that you have “elected” to feel better! Gonna enjoy it, and Indian summer next week, while you figure out what the heck is coming down the pike next for us!
Keep feeling better, and keep those updates coming. And, no matter how you may sound, there is only ONE Barry White voice, just as there is only one Darth Vader…. 😉
