Good evening everyone. I want to start off by apologizing for not being able to track the severe weather with you today. That is probably a first but this was a day spent traveling so it was impossible for me to do so. Thanks to all of you for picking up my slack and posting the latest warnings. A special thanks to Mitch and Shane… two of the rising stars in meteorology!
The severe weather is winding down now. We will still have a shot at some severe weather over the next few hours in the east and south. Here is the radar to track the storms…

FLOOD ADVISORY for Letcher and Pike counties until 9:45pm…that batch of storms which moved through Isom (Letcher County) was one of the worst lightning storms I have ever seen. There are reports of traffic lights out in Hazard. Stay safe.
New area of storms forming around Louisville and extending westward to just north of the Evansville/Owensboro areas in southern Indiana.

Our electricity just now came back on.
Storm moving into Jackson and Madison CO. looking pretty strong. Also a strong storm just west of Frankfort.

Thanks for all of the updates that were posted by Mitch and Shane! Hope that everyone came out okay from the storms and that there was no injury to anyone or damage to property.
A completely seperate questions – what has happened to WXman? I haven’t seen him post in a while. Nor have I seen Rolo. There are others missing, too, and I don’t want anyone to feel left out by my not mentioning them specifically, but I have noticed those two being gone – or is it that I just have missed them? That is possible since I haven’t been able to check in as much myself.

Wow! The thunder and lighning is crazy at my house in Clay county! Thunder was so loud it sounded like it was inside my house!

I’m amazed at how these storms are firing tonight. I thought the atmosphere was worked over from early but she’s still got a ton of juice to work with.
Also tonight was my first big time severe weather outbreak at my station in Southern WV. I had to cut into programing 6 times for severe weather alerts. The lightning I saw up here tonight was incredible, over 30 cloud to cloud and cloud to cloud bolts in under a minute.
I am not surprised as the storms from earlier I thought were under achieved as compared to what was called for. A good lightning show here in Richmond is taking place. These storms in Central KY heading east are much more organized and in my opinion Stronger than when we actually had a watch going on earlier today.
WOW what a lightening storm- power knocked out twice in a few minutes when the lightening seemed to be striking on top of us! This one will be waking folks up as it moves on across the state.
me to shane i thought we had no shot back west of lexington in versailles. i’m sure you did great!
same is true for se ky in terms of minor water problems as new storms are going gangbusters.
Good News is that Velocity shots show unidirectional wind flows at this time so it seems that wind and lightning and possible flooding seem to be the risks at the moment
radar estimates of 1-2 inches of rain in the last hour expect a small stream adv soon.

bardstown to lawrenceburg to versailles to lexington to winchester to morehead there is a risk of a flash flood event to set-up as a classic training setup is underway now and storms are refiring like crazy even back torward e-town and are moving due east over the same areas. i’m heading to bed hopefully shane is still awake.
