Good Sunday evening to one and all. Thanks as always for making the blog your source for Kentucky weather… it is certainly appreciated. For days now, we have been talking about the potential for a cluster of storms to impact the sate late Sunday or Monday and we are watching those storms push in now.
The line is moving east southeast across the southern half of the state and the Storm Prediction Center is watching the situation for a possible watch…
Damaging winds and large hail are the main drivers of the severe threat. The line itself has been showing signs of bowing out and that is a sure sign of the wind damage potential that exists. In addition to the severe threat… watch for the flash flood threat as well. These storms, and the ones out ahead of them, can put down heavy amounts of rain in a short amount of time.
Here is a look at your slew of radars…
I will go live with the blog if needed so make sure you keep checking back. I will also be using twitter to get out the word on warnings and you can follow that in the top right hand corner of the blog. You can also sign up to “follow” me and receive free text messages on your cell phone.
Help us out by posting the weather conditions where you live or your thoughts on how things are looking. Thanks for all you guys do.
Take care.
Once again, Chris, you are right on top of it!!:) I saw the “bowing” of that line earlier, then on our local 6pm newscast, they were “all about L-Ville” and basically saying “to our South”…??- no mention of severe or terribly bad storms (“heavy rain…”) where I’m at in Nelson Co….??! (AS USUAL!?) That line is looking pretty wicked, at least to ME..??! It looks like it might just skirt us here, but you never know what it might decide to do, right?!
Gotta get off here and call hubby @ the hospital in L-Ville before it gets too bad. And while I am thinking of it, as I am sure most ppl already KNOW…lightning is one of the deadliest forms of Wx. there is…my aunt in OK told me yesterday of a young neighbor of theirs…a few wks ago, she was yapping it up on the phone during a bad storm, and lightning came thru her phone line, so she got off the phone, then went to take a SHOWER, preparing for work….??! Lightning came thru the plumbing and she was struck….!!??- Her young son (I think he was around 8-9??) ran to a neighbor and they got her to the hospital, but she passed away I believe, on Thursday, after never regaining conscience after 3 or 4 days?! I, for one, have always thought that was SILLY??!- even tho I’ve heard otherwise?!- I’ve taken showers before during storms, but I’ll never do it again!
The centrqal area of kentucky is getting nothing from all of this, there has only been .009″ of rain in versailles for the month of July, everything dies out the second it gets here, the sprinklers are getting a workout in woodford county, and yards are turning brow, why is everything missing this area?? has the lexington “dome” moved to woodford county,
Wow, there is definitely bowing.
Everyone be careful out there this evening and tonight.
Here, north of Hazard, it’s cloudy, hot and humid. It’s feels like it could storm any time, but it looks like the storms are a good distance away so far.
I find that curious too. Seems like a “too much” or “not enough” proposition on rain for folks in the state right now.
Just a few sprinkles in Scott County too since the 4th. The ground is rock solid right now.
Storms are getting closer tous now. They are two counties away. Severe warnings are starting to pop, so I suspectjthat we will have one before too long. IF we don’t, I suspect that we are going to be seeing rain before too long, anyway.
Chris, I will be keeping an eye on the blog, and the radar, too. Thanks for keeping us up-to-date! You da man!
Looks like we’re missing out in Lexington, but I have a question about your “Save electricity” link at the bottom of your post..is this an ebook? Cause I clicked on the link, read about it, then when I tried to leave the page, I got a pop up stating…”Wait wait wait”… Have you tried this Chris? just seems suspicious when pop ups are involved lol Thanks man
I agree David. Scott Co is quickly turning into “Brother, can you spare a shower?” I watering tomato plants yesterday and looking at the sky thinking that maybe….but it wasn’t.
Starting to get some sprinkles here in Mercer. We need it, so I’m happy. Doesn’t look like anything severe is gonna come through here. It’s all south of us.

I’m keeping an eye out on here to see if they’re coming my way. Everyone stay safe.
Heavy rain seems to be the main threat from these storms now. Jackson’s doppler radar estimates over 8″s of rain has fallen already in parts of Wayne co.
8″s of rain?!?! That is crazy!! No rain here yet. And boy I watched 2 weather reports and they were completely different. What is up with that?
Eight inches of rain? Wow. That would wash Hazard away. I hope it lets up if it reaches this part of the state.

That’s a link to a screenshot I took of the estimated doppler rainfall across Southern KY, as of 12:20.
Chris, don’t know what is going on, ut I just got this update in my email, at 3 pm on Monday, 7/13. I had read it online last evening, and had posted a reply.
Don’t know if your server is having issues, or what, or maybe it is mine. IN any event, thought I would let you know.
