Good evening everyone… just dropping to share a some pics and video of flooding from near the Ashland area. Thunderstorms early this evening dropped 3″-4″ of rain in a about an hour over a large part of Greenup and Boyd Counties.
Numerous roads were closed and several businesses and homes were flooded. All of this without a warning of any kind from the National Weather Service in Charleston, WV. Folks… they such a bad weather office that it really isn’t funny. This is the second major flash flood event for this area in the past 6 weeks that they sat by and issued nothing. I will launch a full rant about this a little later.

That pic is just one of a hundred we have received out of northeastern Kentucky. Again… a warning was never issued or apparently ever thought about.
Look out NWS Charleston… the blogs are coming!

Chris-I couldn’t agree more with your comments about the NWS in Charleston. I live outside of Greenup & the storm got worse after the storm warning expired. I thought for sure there would be a flood statement also but I see that nothing was issued. I think that they are too far away to do a good job for this area. I liked it better when there was a office in Huntington. I read this blog several times a day-please keep up the good work here & on WSAZ. You are the best source of weather around!

Holy Cow!! That’s about as much rain in a couple of hours as I’ve ever seen here…and I’ve lived here 38 years. Shame of the NWS. I’m thankful I get your updates on my cell phone. I was on US 60 in Cannonsburg and the water was across the road and in businesses up and down the road. No flash flood statement??? Let ’em have it Chris!
simply unacceptable, no excuses. this is a government agency folks, and they need to be held accountable.
Chris, in re to your blog post last night about paying attention to where your Wx comes from….
I live in Bardstown, KY…faithful follower/blogger since I stumbled upon your blog a few yrs ago…we get Ch.27 here on Cable, but now that it’s Digital, it’s ALL screwed up….(lol!)-I noted that YOU were about the most accurate wx-caster around, and that still stands!! 🙂 I know that I am not particularly in your “viewing area”, but yet, I have met so many NICE ppl on here thru the yrs…..I’ll do anything that I can to give them a “heads up” on any WX conditions movng from my way to theirs’!!! :)Now, I have an even better reason to keep up…?! My best friend lives in Hurricane, WV….
I keep up with other local blogs, as well, but yours, Chris, is, by far, the BEST and most accurate I’ve ever been a part of! 🙂 Thank You SO MUCH for continuing this blog for us! I am sure I speak for all of us here!:)

Glad I get these posts on my phone cause I was heading toward Ashland just driving around and got that and simply turned around and drove back to richmond lol
Having lived under the NWS Charleston’s area for 7 months now, I can confirm Chris’ assessment of them. They were slow on the gun during winter weather situations where advisories were needed. They are very gun shy about severe weather warnings, and like most NWS offices, focus way to heavy on MOS for their temperature forecasts.
Got caught in moderation, just wanted to say Chris is dead on about NWS Charleston. Jackson and Louisville are miles ahead of Charleston when it comes to warnings and advisories.
