Good Monday to one and all and welcome to a new week! It is the first full day of Summer and the start of the last full week for the month of June. Man… that is hard to believe! Before you know it we will be talking about tracking the first sn… you guys aren’t ready for that kind of talk just yet!

Today’s weather will look a whole lot like the weather on Sunday across the state. Much drier and cooler air will be located across eastern Kentucky… HOT weather will be located in the west. In between… some showers and thunderstorms will roam. Here is a little map I put together for your viewing pleasure…

The lines may be off by a few miles… but you get the idea.! Temps today will be in the low to mid 80s for central and eastern Kentucky as the west bakes. Highs out there will hit the low to mid 90s for areas that don’t get the storms. No thanks… you guys can keep that out there!

The regular stable of radars has you covered while tracking the showers and storms…

There could be a few strong or even severe storms today. But, this should not be a widespread severe weather outbreak. Locally heavy rains will continue to be of concern as more than one storm moves across the same areas. Many of you have been asking me just how wet we have been across the state. The past 3 months have been amazingly wet across much of Kentucky. Take a look at this map from the past 90 days…

That’s a radar estimate and it is more than impressive as it shows some parts of the state a foot above normal during this time. That is a lot of water in the ground my friends! The heat Friday and Saturday pushed temps toward 100 in western Kentucky and only to near 90 for the east. Just look at the map above for the reason for that. Had the ground not been soaked… we would all have been into the middle and upper 90s with the atmosphere that was in place.

As far as the weather goes for the rest of this week…

1. We will continue to be in a warm and humid pattern.

2. The big time heat will try to make another push east at some point this week.

3. Scattered thunderstorms will be around again… especially in the central part of the state early with a better chance coming statewide later this week and weekend.

Have a great Monday and take care.
