Good early Saturday morning or late Friday night… it’s all about perspective!
The severe weather threat is ramping up overnight for parts of the state. A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is now in effect for areas mainly along and north or I-64 until 7am.
A line of thunderstorms continues to develop north and west of the Ohio River and will continue to work southeast overnight. The threat for damaging winds and large hail will increase into the early morning hours. Here is a look at the counties included in the watch…
The latest warnings…
You can track this line of thunderstorms with our assortment of radars…
I will try to get as many updates as I can overnight. I am currently in Cincy having a little vacation weekend… but I will be here for you guys as usual! I may take the blog live overnight if it gets bad enough. You may want to set your alarm for a little later on to check in on the storm situation.
The threat for severe weather will be back with us Saturday… especially across the south.
Keep checking back and take care.

Chris, are you guys staying at the Great Wolf Lodge? I hear that is a pretty nice place if you are going to spend a day or two at Kings Island.
I don’t see any warnings for the squall line headed our way, but the air outside is *oppressive* so I guess anything could strengthen as it approaches Northern Kentucky.
Edit: Just looked at your live blog so I guess you guys are closer to downtown. That means you will get hit about 15 minutes before we do here in Cold Spring! 🙂

Absolutely wicked here in Gtown. Constant lightning and the strongest wind gust we have seen all year. Expect torrential rain too. It moves in and out quickly.
David, I can see a lot of that lightning from Nicholasville, Constant light show, I hope it misses me lol 🙂
I’m in masterston station area and it’s a good little storm, but I think the worst of it skirted to the north of us.
Whew, that storm in south Scott Co. was wicked… Constant lighting, torrential rains, strongest winds I remember this year so far…. Tweaked my power a few times, that wasn’t so good.
Was that the tornado sirens that just went off in Scott Co.?????
Cloudy, wind, and birds chirping and flying here in Nicholasville, must not going to be too bad. I would have liked just a thunderstorm! But I am not going to complain about this rain we are getting, i would rather it be rainy and stormy than HOT and DRY! 🙂 🙂
Yes.
Is that a hook on the storm about to hit Bath? It says there is a meso 4!!
I’m sorry if this makes anyone mad, but if this is the “severe weather outbreak” we have been hearing about everywhere! for a couple of day, i am disappointed. Not that I want anyone to have damage or get hurt, but come on if this is it, it was almost as bad as waiting for 6+ inches of snow and not getting it lol. Hope you are having fun Chris! 🙂
Now it says a level 5!! Are we gonna be in a tornado warning?
What we need to remember is that central and eastern KY is an area about 180 miles in any direction. We saw nothing but some rain and a few rumbles of thunder this week before this morning when areas south were dealing with flooding and storm damage. The event this morning is hitting areas that did not receive much this week. I don’t think this is the main line, just a leftover from the larger complex from last night.
We heard the thunder at 6 a.m. so hubby and I leaped up to let the dogs take a quick bathroom break before the storm hit. I turned on the WKYT channel 27.3 and saw magenta radar colors heading right for us here in eastern Bourbon County.
All in all, it wasn’t much as far as wind damage, but the lightning was wild. It never stopped. The power flickered on and off for about five minutes. There wasn’t much thunder, thankfully. The cats were yowling like crazy. They must have sensed all the electricity in the air.
okay, the other day I was telling you that friends have been complaining about their weather radios not sounding an alert during severe thunderstorm warning. I haven’t talked to them today, but this time it was me.
My radio gets clear reception, SAME code is programmed correctly, and is in alert mode. But no alert for the fayette county t-storm warning this morning.
Anyone have any ideas????
This has been a problem from time to time with certain brands of weather radios. Can you provide the make and model number of the radio. Was it a Midland WR-100 by chance?
hey Chris, I love the NEW LIVE CHAT Section from last night!!…THat will be an awesome tool during snowstorm season!!…lol.. Looks like northern Ky. is gonna be the bullseye today for nasty weather..I know one thing we have had our share down here its time for a break..yesterday it hit an oppressive 96* in my back yard…UGH..if its not storming its melt down hot…LOL..
I noticed that Seattle WA. has went 29 days without rain..so that goes to show you how messed up this pattern is…they get rain at least every other day or so…
My midland radio that WKYT promotes went off this morning. In fact, it had the thunderstorm warning before it was even posted on weather.gov.
HOORAY! We have power again. Nice storm that came through Scott Co. No damage here, but sure am glad to have a coffee pot and the AC again.
Good to hear. The Midlands are good radios for the price. The WR-100’s are heavily promoted by the media. The Radio Shack ones are just as good but cost more.
The Midlands had some sensitivity problems several years ago. However, I have not heard any reports of problems within the last year.
I would check to see if you get your weekly alerts which are sent between 6-7 PM on Tuesday Evenings and between 11-12 on Wednesdays.
just had a very intense storm move through my area with very heavy rain,…yada, yada, yada…its like a broken record….almost 1″ of rain in about 45 min…:(
