Good Thursday again. A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is still in effect for parts of central and western Kentucky until 1pm. The watch was issued earlier this morning but a guy has to sleep at some point.
Plus, the storms are just now reaching the state.
A NEW PDS SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is also in effect for much of southern and central Kentucky until 6pm. This is rare for the SPC to call this a Particularly Dangerous Situation.
Here is a look at both watches…

The latest warnings…
Your assortment of radars…
RICHMOND
SOMERSET
Damaging winds and large hail are likely withe this cluster of storms as it drops southeastward through the state. The Damaging wind threat with this system is VERY HIGH !
Torrential rains may cause flash flooding as well.
More updates as needed. Take care.
New Watch now out for Lawrenceburg, Frankfort, Nicholasville, and southward…

sorry WXman, your post wasnt there when I posted 🙂
Thats ok its not gonna hit the Bluegrass counties anyways 😉 at least thats the word going around 😀
Looks pretty dark here in Nicholasville lol ;P
idk but it looks like this storm is trying to rotate and head more for eastern ky. any other thoughts?
LOCKED and LOADED BOSS!!!
whoops! it doesn’t look like it on the Accuweather radar but does on the new wunderground radar.
That’s right, the Bluegrass counties are safe. Uh..at least if my Geography professors properly taught us..
I think they’re going to go slightly farther east than the watch is covering.. NOT good news for some of the counties that got hammered yesterday.
Accuweathers radar looks like the worst of it will miss where I am but the radar above it looks like it is heading strait for me lol 🙂
From looking at these radar maps, it sure looks like it’s heading for our section of the state. I’m in Perry County. Am I seeing this right?
Katy Bar the Door if I’m right!
I noticed that too. Chris, which one should we be looking at?
Well, on second thought.. maybe not, ive looked at about 4 different radars and each one looks different!!.. and has it moving at slightly different angles!
One thing is for sure, it seems to be picking up speed, so hopefully itll miss Pulaski, Whitley, Knox and others..
Core of this is driving southward..still think LEX bluegrass area won’t get the worst.
Boy, this is getting old isn’t it? As much as I love watching weather, it’s not fun watching everyone get wiped out day after day! We are driving out to Idaho in three weeks, and I surely hope this weather pattern is done before then. As it is right now, we’re not sure which route to take to avoid bad weather. We were leaning towards the northern route across, but it seems like the storms are coming from that direction.
Thanks Packman, glad its not just ME lol Even the one on my desktop from WKYT, shows it heading this way! Scarry looking!
if i may add, i think the new weather underground radar is the best. i think it’s the most accurate.
Definitely sweeping eastward on the last couple radar frames!
GREAT!! lol
well i was only going by 1 persons word HEHE
Is this one headed to Corbin area??? I dont think I am ready for another day like yesterday! 5 Tornado warning in one day.
This site is all I have for weather updates,,no cable. Thanks Chris and everyone for keeping us posted.
Building in Jessamine County!
Looks to me like its headed directly for the ravaged areas from yesterday..
It is completely STILL here in Nicholasville!~
on my desktop weather radar it’s showing a meso level of 6 for Mercer or Washington CO I can’t tell exactly where it is. Usually a tornado warning with that level. Anyone else have that?
The latest update has a 4 below Lawrenceburg. Maybe just died down a bit
worst of wind to hit southern woodford in the next 10 minutes.
its a little brezzy in NICHOLASVILLE!
ok what is the VERY dark red/black in Jessamine county!
chance woodford and mercer may be upgraded to tornado warns.
VERY VERY NASTY in Wilmore! Super high winds- tons of lightening. No hail… yet.
What is it looking like for Lexington? All we have so far is light rain and a couple of rumbles of thunder.
What was your max wind in Versailles mitch?
Very BAD lightning in Nicholasville
Somerset is a magnet for severe wx! Southern KY gets blasted on a regular basis, and up here we miss out on the rough stuff..been this way for weeks.
on desktop it says there is 2 1/2 inch hail in the southernmost part of the complex!! That’s huge
masdison county now getting hard the wind now
the worst went south of the bg pkwy i’d say 30 tops may be 35.
Beverly which desktop are you using? If it is wkyt, then I am missing something on it lol
flood warns out now for nicholasville and harrodsburg.
Is any of this stuff headed toward Morgan co? My grandson has a pool get together with his friends this afternoon
Well, here we go again, folks! For the third day in a row, the severe weather is headed straight at us.
Wxman, you can have thses storms if you want them. I have seen enough to last me for a few days! 😉
Seriously, this is a dangerous system. Everybody please be in a safe place, and be careful!
I’m using the new desktop. Todd Borek said it was 1.8 inches. So it must be accurate.
Storms are moving into Pulaski County at this time. Looks like possible hail and very high winds with these storms.
Also, something must have happened on the Lake. I just saw the rescue squad go flying by, and then another one with a boat, and they were both ina BIG time hurry. Lights an sirens blaring. They really do not need this right now, with these storms bearing down.
Thanks Beverly, I wasn’t even looking under OPTIONS, must be something that wasn’t on the old desk top
Same here… Worst of it definitely going through southern KY.
That cam shot chris posted of somerset is about to look a lot different.. 🙂
Your welcome. It fluctuates between 1 and 1/2 to 2 inches! That’s amazing!!

Don’t feel bad. WE had four day before, and two severe s-tsorm warning at the same time….no fun at all.
And a flash slood warning on top of that.
Hang in there…this too, shall pass. (Soon, we hope!)
I still would like to know why no tornado watches are issued with these storms. I just don’t know why they wouldn’t considering the number of tornado warnings we’ve had. I’m sure it’s because of something meteorological that I don’t know about…
Just wonderful now all of SE KY is under Moderate risk that should please WXMAN
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1otlk.html
we got a funnel cloud spotted in SAND GAP in jackson county.
it no on ground as of visual..
Where are the severe thunderstorm watches for the eastern part of the state? I’m here in Magoffin about to get hammered and there still has not been a watch issued for the area. Step it up NWS!
Are the storms in Illinois and Missouri going to be a threat for US!?
Yeah thanks i will too but here just rain and some lightning
Storm hitting here now and all I can say is WOW!!
Very dark in Corbin, but I think it will miss us. I hope!
.18 of rain at Bluegrass AP last hour. LOL
Is this the only storm complex coming through central kentucky today, or will there be more developing?????
Louisville NOAA just changed their graphic again – started at 40% chance today – upped it to 100% during the storm, then lowered it to 80% and it’s now down to 20% isolated the rest of the afternoon. Guess that means the Ill blob forming won’t hit us later? Or will the percentage change the closer it gets? LOL Be safe all!
NWS changes their forecast so often it may as well be an observation of whats going current than whats going to happen they really nailed that 93 today LOL

Just posted by Belski out of Louisville: A watch is out over Illinois. This is following the same track as this morning’s storms. To the west of the track, the sun is out and it is hot and with that hot air bumping into the rain cooled air and it appears to be setting up a pretty good boundary. St. Louis is up around 90 degrees. Look for storms to increase. There may be another watch for Illinois and Indiana down into our area later this afternoon.
A tree fell a few houses from here…almost fell into the house. They definitely got lucky. Winds and rain at one point in time looked like a hurricane!!! Worst one we’ve seen in this part of Clay Co. this week for sure.
We just had a really bad storm come through Hazard. It’s still storming but not as bad. I saw what I thought was a funnel cloud. The sky looked really scary just before the storm hit. Debris was flying through the air. Actually, it still looks scary.
well thank goodness this storm cluster missed my area, nothing more than a light shower and thunder and lightning, but last night was a different story…williamsburg area had massive flooding last night, a rock slide blocked highway 92 for hrs. and highway 779 on the williamsburg side was experiencing major flooding, houses flooded, farm machinery floating away, areas that never see flooding was under water!!!!..it was a rough night for many down here…
