Good Thursday everyone. The blog is likely to be a busy place today as the threat for severe thunderstorms and torrential rains will be with us. The storms are getting off to an early start as we have a TORNADO WATCH in effect for parts of western and central Kentucky until 6am. That means by the time many of you read this… it will no longer be in effect or a new watch has been issued farther east. If so… I will update.
Here is the watch outline…
The latest warnings…
Here are the radars for your storm tracking needs…
One round of severe weather comes through early today then we wait for more storms to crank up later this afternoon into the evening. These rounds of storms can bring a whole lot of wind damage with them if they can really get their act together. The atmosphere today certainly gives them a good shot of doing just that… especially if we can get some sun this afternoon to increase the instability for the next round or rounds of storms.
Here is the latest all inclusive severe weather map from the Storm Prediction Center…
Watch the heavy rain and flood threat as well. Many areas picked up 1″-3″ of rain from the Wednesday storms so it won’t take much at all to cause more flooding problems today.
The long range picture does not get much better as more storms will be with us this weekend into next week. Yep… these could be severe with more heavy rains.
I will update the blog as much as I can today… a guy has to sleep sometime!
But if my track record is any indication… I will likely be tracking the storms and updating the blog to keep you safe.
I will also be using Twitter as well so sign up for free text messages to your cell phone. You can also see my updates in the top right hand corner of this blog.
Have a great day and keep checking back for updates. Take care.

Thanks, Chris.
Yep, I’m watching and hoping things don’t get too bad here for early morning—-it looks like the storms in Kentucky are propagating southward, and at the same time we have new storms firing up in the Bowling Green area as we speak. Should be interesting to see if any type of further development occurs within the next hour or so.
Take care, everyone! And if you’re still awake, keep your TV or weather radio on just in case for severe weather warnings.
I hope the folks at the NWS in Louisville are awake also. Would be helpful to keep an eye on these “semi-discrete storms,” as the SPC has put it.
ohh i think i just saw a few cats and dogs, damn this rain getting serious.
i pissed, i lost 760 tonite at the tables, but ill get that back at the track.
SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK.

urban and small stream flood adv. for knox, laurel, whitley, pulaski, rockcastle, and Mccreary counties until 8:45 am..very heavy rain and thunderstorms moving over all of central and eastern ky. at this time…so be safe out there…
Several areas west of I-75 have already picked up over 2″s of rain according to Doppler Radar. Mesonet sites are showing a general half inch to inch and a half of rain so far east of I-65. That’s already a lot of rain and with more coming I think high water concerns are going to be coming again. Stay safe today folks!
very heavy rain has caused ALOT of flash flooding in my area..creeks are out of their banks, water is running across roads from ditches overflowing and one spot is in front of my house where I have never in my 10 yrs living here seen that happen before from flash flooding…. rain in my rain gauge sits just over 4″ !!!!…yes I said 4″ !!!. since yesterday at noon…and alittle over 2 of that has fallen since 6 am this morning…rain is still falling, very intense thunder and lighning as well…stay safe ya’ll and watch the running water this morning, could be a difficult commute to work…
why hasn’t jackson issued a flash flood watch. here in this part of pike co. our ground is very saturated.
its that way in Clay County also. Creeks are out of their banks, roads are flooded and rain has not let up since it began since around 6 this morning.
We have had very heavy rain falling for several hours now here in East Bernstadt. Surprised there’s not at least a flood watch up for this area…

Hey Chris and everyone else out there. It started thundering and lightning about 4 this morning up here in NW Lewis Co. Then shortly afterwards it just poured the rain. Then there was a little break, then it came back like gang busters. I don`t have a rain gage anymore but i know we got quite a bit af rain this morning. Probably at least an inch or so. I thought for sure we were going to be put under a warning or something. But we didn`t. It did get really bad though. Well, I guess we`d better get ready for round 2 and possibly 3. Who knows, right? Well, stay safe out there everyone and keep up the great work Chris. I`ll be checking back often today. Later.

We got rolled out of bed with quite an electrical storm about 5:45 this morning, and another on it’s heels. since yesterday afternoon, we have had over 2 inches of rain at my house.
right now, we have partly cloudy skies, so I would guess that we are not through with the storms for today. A nasty line seems to be headed in this general direction out of Tennessee….
guess you will have a busy afternoon, Chris.
We do now have a flash flood watch in effect four southern and southeastern KY.
Keep an eye on the sky, and the other one on the blog today! Be safe everyone!
