Good Thursday everyone. The wet weather beat continues and it is one that many of us are probably sick and tired of already. Wednesday featured more severe thunderstorms and heavy rains across the state. Today will see… drum roll please… more showers and thunderstorms!
We have a front that is SLOWLY working southward across the region right now and has a wave of low pressure along it that will keep the rains going today. Some of the showers and storms will produce heavy rainfall once again so we will have to watch for flash flooding in some areas. A FLASH FLOOD WATCH is in effect for northeastern Kentucky near the Ashland area
Radar time…
Overall… today is going to be a pretty ugly day for most areas. Temps are going to be well below normal today with several locales staying in the 60s for highs. As a matter of fact… when it rains temps may drop to the upper 50s. That will especially be the case in the north. Cool winds will be gusty as well adding an extra chill to the day.
I will say this, though. Areas in the south may see some sun that could boost thermometers into the 70s for a time today.
Friday will see improving weather across the area from west to east. A stray shower may hang tough early in the day the farther east you live. Clouds may also be a little stubborn in the east that would keep temps near 70ish while those that get the most sun see temps spike into the mid and upper 70s.
The weekend looks good!
Highs will warm into the middle 80s for Saturday and into the upper 80s to near 90 perhaps by Sunday. Both days look dry!!!!!
That dry pattern won’t last long and neither will the heat. We go back into a stormy setup by later Monday into much of next week as another big push of cooler air heads south into the central and eastern US. This will knock our temps way down once again!! Get used to hearing that this summer! ![]()
Have a great Thursday and I will update as needed. Take care.

Wow, this is NOT good for the already flooded areas that are trying to recover. Hang in there everyone.
It’s pouring rain here just N or Hazard this morning. I feel sorry for Breathitt Co. residents.
The sound of the rain makes me want to go back to bed. 🙂
Thanks for the updates, Chris. I’ll keep checking here with you throughout the day.
Everyone stay safe.
This weather is like watching an old movie that you didn’t like the first time. Oh, well!
The rain is welcome in my area. All of my new grass had burnt out from the dry spell a few weeks ago. I’ll take a drizzly 65 degree day over sunny and 90 anytime.
ACK! Chris, please don’t say that. Remember a couple of years ago when the rain, rain did go away? In this economy no one wants to buy hay again in July.
since yesterday morning, I’ve recieved 2.5″ of rain…UGH!!! I need it to dry out as well, my garden looks as bad as it ever has…weeds, mud, rotten plants…:(…
oh well I guess it could be worse, it could be a MAJOR DROUGHT AGAIN…at least we have a lush green landscape…
This is hard weather for those who are trying to get in the fields to set tobacco. Anybody who has theirs set is enjoying the rain, the rest are feeling gloomy.
Same thing with baling hay. We did have some great hay weather in the last week or so while waiting for the tobacco plants to be ready.
pipe some of that to my house we did get a good soaking overnight but could always use more during the summer 😉
Morning people. Looks like a bunch of you guys are getting a fair amountof rain this morning. We have had a few showers to this point, but nothing heavy as of yet.
We are currently at 70 degrees here, with cloudy skies. Does that mean that the front has not gone by us yet? I kind of figured it that way.
Chris, so you are giving us a good looking weekend, anyway. And are you expecting anything severe today? OR just possibilities of heavy rains?
Everyone have a great day, and thanks for keeping us posted Chris.
50s? 73 and very muggy here and thats after the rain
Weren’t those floods over a month ago?
yes but people are still trying to recover its not something that you get over in a couple days i’m sure people lost houses vehicles and other property
58 here in western Franklin Co. It’s been raining lightly most of the day. We have received 1.5″ of rain since yesterday and going by the radar we will be getting more over the next few hours. Everything is so green and growing (including weeds) lol. Looks to be a wonderful weekend! Thanks, Chris!!
Well at least we had a chance to run out and get the grass cut before these current rainy days got here. 🙂
If this rainy trend continues, we’ll just have to cut grass when we can. It’s sure hard on veggies to stand in water, though. 🙁
ugly today. no softball for 4 out of 5 weeks now due to the weather ugh!
my new twitter name: mwgaines i’m on chris’s twitter site as well.
I am LOVING Chris’ summer forecast — cooler and wetter than normal. I’ll take it over drought any day!! Great news for the farmers.
can you please tell me the average number of days it normally rains in Rchmond, KY per month?
I just hate stepping out of the house in rains.
