Good Thursday everyone and welcome to the month of September. One would never know it by the weather we have out there today as we are off to a scorching hot start. A mini heat wave has engulfed the state and will carry us into the start of the weekend. The good news is that a big time fall feel is on the way for next week.
Temps today will run in the low and mid 90s for many areas. A few upper 90s will be possible across the west. That deserves a big old WOW! Track the temps here…

There will be the chance for a widely scattered shower or thunderstorm developing in the afternoon and evening hours. Follow that chance here…
The same forecast can be used for Friday and Saturday. Highs will generally run in the low and mid 90s with upper 90s out west. Could we see a rare 100 degree day for someone? That is certainly possible.
As we head into Sunday, the threat for showers and thunderstorms will really increase as a strong cold front moves in. The clash of seasons with this front will likely result in some strong or severe thunderstorms late Sunday into Sunday night.
Leftover showers and thunderstorms should hang around into, at least, early Labor Day Monday. The big news will be the cool air coming in behind the front. Temps in the 70s for highs look very good for early next week with nighttime lows heading toward the upper 40s on a few occasions.
Next week looks cooler than normal…
The next week and change should also keep us busy watching the tropics. We have Katia out in the Atlantic and what is soon to be Lee down in the Gulf of Mexico. Here is a look at the latest…

Katia is a long way away and any possible impact to the states wouldn’t be until the end of next week. The system in the gulf is going to be a player this weekend and the models are all over the place. This is to be expected with a newborn system so close to land. We will have to keep an eye on this to see what happens to it in the coming days.
Things are heating up down in Nashville as the Cats and Toppers get set to kick start the college football season tonight. Highs in music city will hit the mid 90s today with a kickoff temp in the mid and upper 80s. A note to tailgaters… you might want to add a little water to that collection of beverages in the cooler! ![]()
Have a great Thursday and take care.

The GFS and the Euro are looking BONE dry past this weekend. We better hope we get a soaking out of the weekend system. In pulaski if someone threw out a match this whole county would go up….
The new US Drought Monitor is out and has part of South central ky in Severe Drought. Almost a third of the state in now in se level of drought. Probably going to get worse before it gets better.
81.08% of Texas in Exceptional Drought. Wow. Can Future TS Lee help in this area?
With soon-to-be “Lee” in the Gulf, time to gas up the car.
98 degrees at Louisville Int’l at 2pm. The heat island effect is in full throttle. Looks like 100 at least.
100 degrees for the 1st time this summer in Louisville. Record is 103 for this date.
Gas already shot up to $3.75/gallon at the Speedway near where I work. 🙁
It has been awfully dry the last month. Time for a pattern change. Love how the loser oil companies use hurricanes as an excuse to raise gas prices.
good afternoon from the town of wayne. at 5pm it is in the mid 80s with a dew point of 74 or so and a heat index of 90 or so. looks like louisville has reached 100 today for the first time in 57 years. all thos 90 degree temps during the very hot summer we had and it had to wait til the 1st day of meteorological fall to have the hottest day of the year. thank god the humidity is not quite as bad as it was back in july or there might be excessive heat warnings out right now. back in july we had more moisture in the ground and the humidity was higher and the temp was not as high, now the ground is dryer, hence, higher temp and less of a dew point. the sky in wayne, wva is a kind of dirty milky hazy sky compared to the cleaner type we had back on mon and tuesday. trust no model beyond 3 days with all the tropical systems we have on the weather map. thank you for your time and may god bless you and your family.
I thouroghly enjoy your post!
I trust no model on anything beyond three days.
Interesting winter outlook. Looks like he will update in a couple of days.

Tropical Storm Warning now out for northern gulf coast, excluding Florida. Regardless of what else may happen, there could be 15-20 inches of rain in parts of that area.
When does basketball season begin? Football season is already giving me a stroke. I don’t know how much losing I can take until then. I guess since its UK, I should expect the football team to be nothing more than mediocre, at best.
Is it ever going to rain down here in Hustonville/Danville? Never had to use a pooper scooper for my little 10 pound dog because the rain would always take care of that in the yard, well now guess the little bombs will have to be cleaned up the “ugh” way lol. Please a lil rain?!
good evening from the town of wayne, wva at 11:50pm with a temp a very warm 77 degrees, dew point of 73, heat index of 82 and this is pretty impressive at midnight for sept. 1st. i guess the heat wave went on a diet today in wva because it failed to reach 90 but according to tony cavalier the next 2 days and especially saturday have the potential to be the hottest days of the summer. i see also where td 13 has formed in the gulf and where this bad boy goes is any ones guess including all the cluless models. p.s. a big thanks to emerson biggins for the nice remarks toward me, same to you my friend. thank you for your time and may god bless you and your family.
