Good Wednesday morning everyone and thanks for making the blog your source for weather. Our stormy pattern is just getting underway across the region and should kick into high gear in the coming days. The potential for showers and thunderstorms to last into the Kentucky Derby weekend is increasing as well.
A front is on top of the area today and is putting the brakes on. This will be the focal point for scattered showers and thunderstorms today and here is the radar for your tracking needs…
Showers and thunderstorms should become a little more widespread as we head into Thursday. If we are to get severe weather around here… the best chance looks to come on Friday or Friday night as a strong cold front sweeps in.
Some of the rains over the next few days will be heavy and this is actually a threat that I am looking at a little closer. Anytime you can get a setup to where you can get repeat showers and thunderstorms over the same piece of real estate you have to be on guard. That will be especially true if something we talked about in the last post comes true and that is having this front never clear the area this weekend. Some of the models are suggesting this to now be a real possibility and that may not be good news for the Run For The Roses on Saturday…

As the front slows… a wave of low pressure may develop to our southwest and come rolling northeastward across the Ohio Valley bringing more rounds of showers and storms over the weekend into early next week. Again… the heavy rain threat is something that the blog will be updating in the coming days.

Bummer, we were supposed to meet a friend at the park this afternoon. Guess we should make backup plans..any suggestions for a place where small children can roam without disturbing others if it’s wet outside?
Taking the students to the Legend’s game today. I told them to be prepared for rain. I wonder how many will listen…..

My mom lives just west of Houston and they’ve had something close to 22 inches of rain in the past couple of weeks. What’s going on with the pattern down there?
We need rain in my yard. It’s pretty dry. I hope the Oaks and Derby are safe. The people can get wet but the horses need a safe surface. Churchill is fine when it’s muddy, thank goodness.

Honestly, I’m still sort of doubtful about severe wx here in the next day or two. This stalled front is too stagnant.
If you want rain in KY, just prepare for the Derby. Seems like it rains on Derby weekend almost every year at some point. I was really hoping it would be a beautiful day for the Run for the Roses. I like when visitors can come to our state for this weekend and see the beauty of Kentucky in gorgeous weather. Our State truly is beautiful in the Spring. One of the things I love about living here.
We had some showers overnight, but nothing this morning, where I am in Pulaski County. Radar looks like the northern half of the county is getting some, though. I am more concerned with the possibility of flooding with the stalled out front and training of showers and t-showers.
D in London, you are right when you say it always seems to rain on Derby Day! I would like to see good weather, too. Have a good day, all.

That thunderstorm thats getting ready to hit Whitley Co looks to be a doosie. I hear Thunder in the distance. Are there any severe warning out with these storms?

Perfect weather for the Legends game today. Not too hot, not too cold, no reain….It was a blast, and got a win as well.
Nope all it was just a little Thunder and Lightening with some Big Heavy rain but i dont’ think Knox/Whitley is done for the day but the rain did cool things off so the rest may not be as bad

According to the current warnings on the side of the blog and radars, my family in Texas is getting slammed! My granddad said they had over 4 inches of rain today! 😮
