Good Friday to one and all. It is no ordinary day or weekend as it is time for the largest gathering of hillbilly folk these United States have to offer. Well… outside of a University of Tennessee football game.
I kid because I care!! Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to hillbilly heaven…

Pikeville Kentucky is home to the 2nd largest festival in the state of Kentucky… Hillbilly Days! Today and Saturday will easily see more than 100,000 people filter through the eastern Kentucky city. Here is the info on what HD is all about…
Come enjoy the festivities and craziness of Hillbilly Days and bring the family! There is something for everyone with hundreds of food and craft booths, a huge carnival, and music throughout the town. Y’all will be assured of having three days of outrageous fun, food, and frolic.
Hillbilly Days offers loads of fun for all participants, but there is true meaning behind the event. For 33 years, Shriners have faithfully traveled all over the United States and Canada to help crippled children. So, when you come upon Shriners all decked out in Hillbilly garb or driving one of those modified Hillbilly limousines, remember the children whose lives are being enhanced.
Hillbilly days improves each year as Shriners, the Pike County Chamber of Commerce, Pike County Government, City of Pikeville and local volunteers transform downtown Pikeville into one of the most unique festivals in the world!

Your friendly weather dude will be spending the day in Pikeville doing some live weather and taking in the festivities. If you are in the area… some by and see us at our WSAZ booth! ![]()
Weather headlines…
1. Today and Saturday look good with temps in the 70s both days.
2. A stout low pressure moves in later Sunday into Monday with showers and thunderstorms increasing Sunday and hanging tough into Monday.
3. We will see a shot of chilly air moving in by Tuesday and this will take us into Wednesday as showers move away. If we can clear the skies out… some frost would be possible.
4. A RAPID warmup is likely by the end of next week as TRUE spring begins to take shape.
5. It is going to get pretty darn warm before April is over, folks! ![]()
That’s all I have for you today… I have to get my wardrobe ready for today. I have narrowed it down to three…
Decisions, decisions! ![]()
Oh by the way… don’t take offense to me having some hillbilly fun… after all, I am a good old eastern Kentucky boy! Have a great day and getrdone! ![]()
Yeeehahttp://www... that looks like more fun than a day at the fishin’ hole :P. In all seriousness have fun at Hillbilly Days, Chris. I wish I had a chance to go.
I for one loved the warmer air yesterday and can’t wait for the warmer air this weekend! Let’s see if we can’t get a few upper 70’s or maybe an 80 in here by the end of the month 😛
Shane, I agree with you there. In fact, I don’t just see it as a “definite possibility,” I darn near see it as a definite. A marvelous way to wrap up the month of April. 😉

Although, I do have one negative aspect of that…I do forsee severe weather making another impact across the region before then, unless we can hit the storms in their weakening phase. But I’d still be nice to see about 2 inches of rain out of the deal before the weather “Turns off hot and dry.” We don’t want that to be the case for too long!!
=Aaron=
Chris,
I vote for the outfit on the right. Be sure to wear lots of sunscreen or you will have a very strange tan line. 🙂
I’ll be mowing my yard for the next few days. Let’s hope the warmer weather next week doesn’t also mean drier. Keep the rain coming!
Sad thing is, May looks to come in cold and wet. Check out GFS’s depiction of Derby Day…58 and rainy. Yuck.
Odd i had ice on my windshield this morning where the Dew froze LOL
any help from anyone that is a weather radio expert is it possible for me to pick up the signal from the denver office or can i only get the lmk signal?
any help is appreciated!
It’s not April 1st anymore. Are you being serious?
Chris, if you are gonna be a hillbilly, you have to say it rite! ‘Hits gIt-er-done! 😉
Sounds like a beautiful weekend for all us hillbillies to get out and enjoy the weather! Thanks for the update, and the pictures. I vote for the one on the right as your do-dads to wear! 😀
Hillbilly Days?
How is it different than any other day in Pikeville?
yea, does it not drift after dark? i wanna here about the snowstorm
You could probably find it streaming online somewhere.
But, to think you’ll pick up an analog radio signal eminating from 1,500 miles away…hardly.
Chris:
That last pic… That’s Rolo on the far left with his 2 brothers, Daryle and his other brother, Daryle…
…
Is the rain moving in faster than expected by Chris earlier? The radio is saying storms and showers coming in late Saturday and all day Sunday.
How would you know? Have you ever been to Pikeville? Believe it or not, people from Pikeville are not different from those found anywhere else in this state.
excuse me! that is a very large insult to our wonderful, welcoming city. we are never like this in pikeville, except on hillbilly days. we are celebrating our culture and our ancestors of not that long ago. we have many educated citizens. this is just a time to get out and have fun. so rick, i believe you have insulted the Appalachian culture and you owe us an apology.
Ahhh…NO!
I agree with you. I believe an apology is needed.
Today’s my Bday………37! UGH….Wow what a great weather day! 🙂
Vinny, you’ve done it again… You and Rolo both say things sometimes that make me laugh till I cry…can’t wait to see what he has to say.
Thanks for lightening the load…laughter IS good for the soul.
Rick, let me guess: You rolled out of bed on the wrong side this morning and decided to insult a whole culture just so you could feel better.
Well, gee, Ricky-Bobby. Ah’m right proud ter be one of them danged hillbillies. Yew’ve bin hangin’ with Haired Stern, han’t ya?
waiting…
Not going to happen. I don’t apologize on truths.
Happy Birthday!
And may I ask what proofs you are basing these truths on?
as i said rick , hillbilly days is a time to have fun. have you ever been to pikeville? well i have news for you! we have clean streets, educated citizens, and a modern city. i find pikeville cleaner and a better city than Lexington. so i agree with EKUgrad09, on what are you basing these truths on? stop the stereotyping!! EVERYONE WHO AGREES WITH EKUGRAD09, DEVIL ANSE, AND MYSELF PLEASE REPLY AND TELL RICK AND OTHERS TO LOOK AT THE CITIZENS OF PIKEVILLE AS PEOPLE TOO!
Happy Birthday! 37 ain’t bad…pushing 44 here in a couple months! Glad you had such a nice day to celebrate!
I agree 100% with ekugrad09 and Pike Co resident. No excuse for “Rick” to come here ust to be a jerk. He should apologize! And then booted off this blog!
I meant just not ust
thanx much for your support vicki!
Thank you for your support.
How funny!!
I received 1 st mortgage loans when I was very young and that aided my relatives very much. However, I require the car loan once again.
Nice post keep it up…
Really appreciate this post. It’s hard to sort the good from the bad sometimes, but I think you’ve nailed it!
thats a nice one…..
Every body admits that modern life is high priced, however we require money for different issues and not every one earns enough cash. Thence to receive good mortgage loans or just sba loan should be good solution.
