Good Friday everyone. Severe thunderstorms are likely across Kentucky today and those storms are getting off to an early start as A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is out for western and central Kentucky until 10am. Here is the county outline…
The latest warnings..
This squall line will contain damaging winds and large hail as it races eastward. I will be curious to see just how far east this thing can get before it weakens out.
We will have to be on guard for another chance for severe storms later this afternoon and evening across central and eastern Kentucky. That will especially be the case if we can get some sunshine today. Here is what the Storm Prediction Center is thinking…
Folks in southern Kentucky will REALLY need to watch the skies later today for the possibility of some supercell thunderstorms developing.
We have some radars for you to track the severe weather with…
The blog will have the latest severe weather information so be sure to check back. You guys are also my eyes and ears so post the weather conditions from where you live.
Take care.

Thanks for the heads up, Chris. Things do indeed look favorable for storms today.

already got my bottles sign so that out of way. getting ready to walk a good 2 year old to the track in a few.
Thunder and Lightening arriving in Knox county at 7:30 AM
You beat me to the punch..I was gonna say the same thing. Loud thunder rolling me outta bed this morning..heavy rain just now starting as well
Thunder and lightening just started in Corbin.
not heavy here yet just now starting to rain but has been Thunder and Lightening for a bit though
Just now starting to rain in southern Jackson County.
Starting to Rain here again in Nicholasville, but no lightning or thunder…this afternoon should be interesting though…
Well, looks like there is already some clearing taking place in western KY and TN. However, GFS and NAM both take the low directly over the Bluegrass. So I would think most of the severe wx will stay south of KY today. Still keep your eyes open though…and don’t forget flash flooding is dangerous.
Heavy rain in Ravenna just a few minutes ago and looks like more to come. No doubt we will have WIND again. Hey, Chris, is there any data about the winds that we have had in the past months? I can’t remember when we have had so many days with strong wind and wind that was SO strong. Everyone take care!
Raining pretty well in Lexington. Just starting really well at 7:30.
Morning gang. Just got to work. thunder, lightning, and very heavy rain here at this time. Looking at the radar, it looks like it should be over for us in about the next hour, at least for now.
What I am NOT liking is the fact that we will probably see sunshine later today, and that means more severe weather is a good possibility this afternoon and evening.
Everyone is going to be gone at my house, except for me and the dogs. So, I guess, if we get it, the three of us will hunker down in the closet and wait it out! 😉
Everyone stay safe today, and keep an eye on the weather! Thanks, Chris. I know you will be looking out for us!
Well at least at my house the storms seemed to have all bark and very little bite have had moderate rain and a little breeze but thats about it thus far
Moderated again…geez..
Looks like the new Watch coming out may go as far north as Bowling Green…
With the freezing level just above 8,000 ft. it won’t take much for these storms that do form to put down some hail. I guess that’s why SPC is highlighting the hail threat.

I’m going to camp out here today. 🙂
I stayed home sick.
Wow, I hope we dont get strong storms today because I’ve already had to have a new roof put on this summer. The wind has been terrible this winter.
Went farther east, too. All the way to Russell County. that one butts up against Pulaski County. I also see that the radar is showing a line starting to form in Western KY again, already.
The sun is coming out here, and we are getting clearing skies. As much as I love the sunshine, I was actually hoping that it would stay couldy today…..guess not.
that will prob move further east especially since its just now starting to peak sunshine in eastern KY
Yes, I actually think it would not hurt to have a Watch in place for the Bluegrass. Those cells nearing Louisville look like “hailers” to me…and more will develop in this area soon.
Check out those supercells in west TN. WOW. Bad news is those are headed across the KY/TN state line soon..
I agree. Will they hold together. Looks like they are heading straight towards Central KY.
clearing in west ky and the storms have already fired didn’t take much with low freezing levels and being close to the low center to produce the supercells these will cross into southern ky by 2 pm. then later today these should form a line of storms whcih arks ne into the bluegrass and the rest of east ky. get ready to rock and roll after all.
