Good Monday everyone! The weather over the next few days is pretty simple… winter has returned to Kentucky and much of the country.
A strong cold front moved through last night with showers and severe thunderstorms in many areas. This is the front bringing winter with it. Temps today will be falling from the upper 30s and low 40s early today into the low and mid 30s by late afternoon into the early evening hours. Rain and snow showers will change to snow showers during this time. You can track the temps here…
The radar sees all when it comes to precip…
It is once into this evening and tonight that most will see a slushy accumulation of snow. The northern half will likely see an inch or less on grassy surfaces and such. It is farther south and southeast that can pick up a little more. Southeastern Kentucky should get a general 1″-2″ of slushy snow with locally higher amounts. The Virginia border counties will likely pick up more with totals in the higher elevations reaching 4″. Temps Tuesday morning will be in the high 20s and low 30s so slick spots will be likely and we may actually have some school delays or cancellations.
Snow showers will continue into Tuesday with highs only in the 30s. The chance for a freeze is certainly there both Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.
Some sun will return on Wednesday, though a weak system diving in from the northwest will have to be watched for producing a chilly shower. Highs will struggle to get out of the 40s.
Once temps begin to moderate on Thursday… low pressure will begin tracking our way bring rain by the evening hours that will likely hold into Friday. Clouds will be on the decrease Saturday with some sun returning boosting temps well into the 50s.
Easter Sunday may actually turn out pretty good as we may be in between systems. Highs can hit the 60s under partly sunny skies ahead of the next rain and storms maker for Monday and Tuesday.
Today is opening day for baseball. My Reds host the Mets up in cincy at one and that may actually see a rain or snow delay!
Yay Spring.
Have a great Monday and I will get you a snow map later today. Take care.

This weather has played havoc with my softball schedule.
Thanks for the info Chris, at least I think. Well I returned from 90 plus degress in Florida to winter. Now the last time we went at the end of February into the first days of March and I expected that type or return. However, this time we delayed a month and I still come back to winter. Well at least the weather was great for the most part down there last week a little rain but no complaints. Now back home cold temps and SNOW? Kids, wife and now I’m showing signs of being sick so I guess that should have been expected as well. How do you like that new UK coach drove me crazy trying to keep up with it in Florida and for the record everyone down there really thought it was going to be Billy D. The stations all had him in Lexington. Well lets get ready for baseball and Spring eventually. Everyone have a good day. By the way I saw a former Charleston WCHS Meteorologist on an Orlando station. Always find it funny how much some jump around in the business.
Go Reds!!!!!
Are the temps dropping faster than expected? It’s already low-mid 30’s at 10am. BRRRR
Yeah…the temps are already dropping. It was 46 in Lexington this morning..now saying 39.
Light snow/rain showers at UK now. Not a great day to be outside!
YUCK!!!.. sunny and 82* yesterday, and 37* with rain/snow mix today…@@@@@…
…………..
Our weather has now entered the TWILIGHT ZONE!!!…

Well, good afternoon! Chris, couldn’t you give us a better forecast than this? 😉 I know, you are not real happy with it either. Oh well, this too shall pass, and not a bit too soon! 🙂
Got the tv on the Reds opening game. Everybody in cincy is bundled up big time. I ‘ll bet it is pretty cold with the wind coming off the river!
Tim, keep your blower on, and maybe we can keep the snow south of both of us, although have already been out in rain/snowshowers while I was at lunch! Our temp is at 37 right now, and the wind is wicked!
Tim, get the snowblower out and blow that stuff back down south!
We have had off and on rain/snow showers all day, and our temp is now at 37, with a wind chill of 29.
chris, got the REDS on tv, and everybody in Cincy is bundled up bigf time, too. I would bet that it is cold with the breeze coming off the river!
Why does this radar always look more impressive than what is really falling from the sky? It has been nothing but a cold, nasty drizzle where I am.
In coverage it is, but the radar is only showing light precip for most.
Just venting here – but can someone do something about the stupid rain showing up for Thursday and Friday?? Please? Can’t we get a break on that one? I want to go camping and I don’t want it to rain!! Anyone? Is there a chance that it will go away by then? I mean – if it were December and they were predicting snow for Thursday and Friday I am certain that it would go away by then…so why not the raaaaaaaaaain? (I’m whining)
20* here in belfry. a bit of a mix falling.
sorry, meant 40*!!!
now 39* and snow
36 here all day with fairly steady rain. i must say at this point having seen no snow i am skeptical as to whether lexington will get any at all.
FOR PIKE COUNTY…
-JIM CALDWELL (WYMT)-2″-4″
-CB ON WSAZ (5:00)-1″-2″(NORTHERN PIKE) 2″-4″ (SOUTHERN PIKE)
I’m with ya there. The radar has looked like we should be getting a blizzard all day, yet nothing but a cold rain has fallen!
i guess since the Reds lost no snow map 😉
I’m with Tommy, Neil & Wendy…all we’ve had here in Bardstown has been a short & sweet wet snow around 9am, then icky drizzle all day. But,at least, with the colder Wx, my sinuses/allergies have cleared up nicely. Nomore snotty nose and sneezing, and my eyes no longer look like I am hepatitis-bound…lol!
Hope everyone east of me escaped the bad storms last night?! Those things just scare me to death, my being witness to April 3,1974 & having a relative die in that one. I’ll gladly take snow and cold any day if it means something mean & deadly doesn’t drop out of the sky on top of me and those I love & care about!:)
Thanks Chris for your absolutely PERFECT weathercasts! I know,I know..I’m in the L-Ville area and I DO entertain myself w/ other blogs, but I admit…YOU have the better record of being more accurate from what I have seen, and I do enjoy this blog. Thanks you and the ppl here for letting me be a part of it!:)
Radar has only been showing light precip across the area.
