Good evening gang. Thanks for hanging with the blog this evening. I am back and blogging now. A TORNADO WATCH is in effect until 1am for the following counties…
A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is out for all of eastern Ky until 2am.
Here are the current warnings

Radars
I will leave updates in the comments section. Take care.

Thanks Chris for the update. Stay safe folks.
Well, looks like it`s starting folks. Hope it don`t get too bad. Everyone stay safe and keep your eyes open. And your ears too. It`s been sunny all day up here in Lewis Co. I guess we`ll see what we get later. Catch you all later.

Chris do u have any idea what time you think we will get in on the action here in central ky i am in Richmond and do u think that the watch’s will be shifted farther east to include us ?
Good afternoon, all. Well, here it comes, I guess. I really hope it does not get too bad. But the storms that are firing really look like they are building, and that they mean business!
Of course, we are at 80 degrees here right now, in Somerset. And a few clouds are beginning to come in on the wind, but nothing but white puffy ones at the moment. I know that does not bode well for later, but, oh well.
It is hard to believe that by this time tomorrow, we will be seeing rain and snow showers and temps in the 30s!
Chris, thanks for the heads up, and do you expect the watch to be shifted eastward as the afternoon and evening go on? thanks for keeping us updated. Everyone keep an eye out, and stay safe!
I don’t know how accurate it is, but my thermometer here in Johnson County is showing that it’s 86 degrees.
Winter storm watches up for the higher elevations, above 2500 feet, in the Morristown NWS area..including Wise County, VA, along the VA/KY border.
http://forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.php?warnzone=VAZ002&warncounty=VAC195&firewxzone=VAZ600&local_place1=Wise+VA&product1=Winter+Storm+Watch
LOL…we are thinking alike coffeelady… I was gonna say the same…Man its really hard to believe its 82* here right now and its gonna be snowing tomorrow!!…CRAZY WEATHER!!!
This is crazy! Here it is the 5th of April, and there are winter storm watches up for parts of the southeastern US.
Tim, I know we have begged for a good snow all winter, and when it was cold, and IN SEASON, I would have been jumping for joy. Now that we don’t WANT snow, it looks like we might see some! And my day lilies are just coming up so pretty and green, too! 🙁
gues that will teach us to be careful what we wish for, huh? 😉
Hi Guys… I have to run out for a bit so if you guys could post any new watches or warnings I would really appreciate it.
Take care.
Sure hope it all heads north as it moves east- most of it would miss us…
Not that I have anything against northern KY lol, just don’t want it here.
75 here at 5:57.
Hello, friends…just thought I heard some distant thunder in Bardstown/Nelson Co.(from now on, when I say “B-Town”, I mean that I am directly in the heart of Bardstown, right beside the Courthouse/near the BG)
We’ve got ominous looking clouds and the wind is kicking up. My dogs refuse to go out to pee (and I know Buster has to, because he hasn’t been out in HOURS?!), and our outside cat, “Boobette”(don’t laugh..we have a fuzzy black male cat inside named “Boo”, so when she showed up, we called her “Boobette”..lol..)just came flying off the outer deck to the back door, wanting inside (unusual, because our little gray cat is mean as s*** and beats up on her all the time..)
THIS kind of weather is WHY I always like wintery weather. I am all for the snow (whatever we GET!) tomorrow!
Stay safe out there, and I’ll try to keep a heads up on what’s heading east to my Bluegrass bud’s here!
BTW-if you guys could…I just found out that our former neighbor, Tony, was killed in a car accident late last evening. He replaced our roof a couple of times after hailstorms. He was recently married, has a 8 yr old son and another on the way. Thanks for any prayers for his family. We’ve known them for years.
New mesoscale discussion states that there will be a new tornado watch soon for parts of Kentucky:
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/md/md0402.html
So according to this, all the snow will be only in the higher elevations…does that mean we don’t have to worry anymore about snow accumulation with this?
BREEZY AND MUCH COLDER CONDITIONS ARE THEN EXPECTED BEHIND THE COLD
FRONT. TEMPERATURES ON MONDAY WILL LIKELY REACH EARLY HIGHS BEFORE
FALLING INTO THE 30S BY LATE IN THE AFTERNOON… AND THEN TO
FREEZING OR BELOW BY TUESDAY MORNING. AS A RESULT… SCATTERED TO
NUMEROUS RAIN SHOWERS ON MONDAY WILL LIKELY TRANSITION OVER TO SNOW
SHOWERS BY MONDAY NIGHT. THE SNOW SHOWERS WILL THEN PERSIST INTO THE
DAY ON TUESDAY BEFORE DIMINISHING TUESDAY NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY
MORNING. LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS OF WET SNOW ARE LIKELY WITH THIS
SYSTEM… ESPECIALLY OVER THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF SOUTHEAST
KENTUCKY WHERE SEVERAL INCHES ARE POSSIBLE BY WEDNESDAY MORNING.
this is what Jackson is saying
Wind is very gusty already out there and with Mostly Sunny conditions and no storms around
new tornado watch now out

Winds are really picking up here in Lexington. Cloudy and we are now under a tornado watch.
Winds have really increased here in Clay City in the last 15 minutes
Just made a trek back from Akansas Along the parkways. Higest temp was 80. But there was a good tail wind to help out with the gas. Only a few sprikles along the way. Glad I got back when I did. Our Tornado Watch is until 1 AM Be safe all.
My husband is driving back from Chicago area. He said it has rained on him all day. I’ll be glad to see his face at my door.
According to various weather info systems the storms most likely will lose all intensity after going through the latest tornado watch area. The rest of us in eastern kentucky are just forecasted showers for the night and those are few and far between.

We had a brief period of heavy rain and some ferocious lightning w/ the first storm thru Nelson Co…2nd batch coming thru right now w/ about a 15 second heavy burst…little bit of wind right now. I’m concerned about the two lines being so close together near the Green/Taylor Co. areas just NE of BG…if they come together, might have some heavy duty stuff there.

How severe do the storms affecting Somerset appear. I need to know if I should put the children in bed or let them stay up until it is over. I don’t want to have to get them back up after I put them down. Thanks
Severe weather sirens just went off in Richmond. Every time that thing goes off sounds like the worlds going to end. Always scares me to death!! I just know Gabriels trumpet must sound better!!
I’m in on the severe thunder storm warning for Northern Laurel Co. Just gusty winds here at the moment. I will do my best to update on conditions here when the storm rolls through (or after if it gets too bad).

Are these storms still as strong? I’m in Magoffin county. T-storm warnings are getting close. I am terrified of storms, I don’t have a basement, but my neighbor does. Do I need to make plans to head that way.. Please keep me posted.
Shortly before 10pm… a line of severe thunderstorms stretched from Fleming Co southwest to Rockcastle Co. These storms are racing eastward carrying damaging winds and large hail.
Looks like the canceled the tornado watch for central Kentucky. Chris did the storms move faster than expected? Why have a watch set to expire at 1 am just to have to canceled 3 hours early? Just wondering.

Chris awful wind right now in morgan co….
Don’t know what damage there has been, but there is a house on Broadway in Irvine that a huge tree fell on. No injuries, thank the Lord. The wind was unreal!!!! I didn’t “hear” a train, but the wind was very powerful. I hope that everyone makes it o.k. tonight. Thanks,Chris, for your updates. They are life savers.
I remember a BIG tornado came through Ravenna many years ago when I was a kid. I was sitting here trying to remember what year that was… I think it was l962. It was a mess. Lots of people where injuried.
Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Breathitt, Floyd, Johnson, Knott, Magoffin, Martin, Pike [KY] till 11:45 PM EDT
It’s storming here in Johnson County right now, the wind is awful…very scary…
Passed through Magoffin pretty quickly. Mostly rain and some gust of wind, not much thunder. I’m glad it lost it’s punch before it got here. Hope everyone else is as lucky.
We had marble sized hail and some winds I wouldn’t even attempt to estimate at night here in Eubank. I did see a very distinctive lowering to the cloud base to our south-west about the time the sirens went off here that would be consistent with the reported location of the warning around Stab
storms have just ended in my nick of the woods we had very heavy rain, thunder, lightning and strong winds…no damage that i could see and we were out in it .just got home about 30min. ago. few tree limbs on road but thats about it here in whitley co…and the electric has been flickering as well. hope noone suffered any major damage…so now the severe is over. now on to the cold and snow..yuck…:(
Been out all evening, raining in Pikeville pretty heavy downpours and lighting temp 54 very heavy winds.
Well, looks like it`s starting folks. Hope it don`t get too bad. Everyone stay safe and keep your eyes open. And your ears too. It`s been sunny all day up here in Lewis Co. I guess we`ll see what we get later. Catch you all later.
