Good Saturday folks. Here is hoping your weekend is going great. The weather out there today into Sunday looks good and with old man winter planning an old fashioned assault on us next week… enjoy every minute of what we have out there now!
After a chilly start to today… sunshine will boost temps into the 60s. Sunday will be a warm and windy day with temps heading toward the 70s. Clouds will increase ahead of a MAJOR pattern change surging in behind a strong cold front that moves in Sunday night. Showers and thunderstorms will increase from west to east during the late afternoon and evening hours and some of the storms may try to become strong.
GFS Sunday Evening
Winds will be very gusty as this system rolls through. Temps behind the front will drop like a rock and be in the 30s when you wake up Monday morning and stay there through the day. Snow showers and squalls will become widespread during this time and those will continue into Tuesday.
Monday Evening
Tuesday Morning
That is one heck of a cold air mass moving in for this time of year. Snow is likely across the entire area and most will see snow on the ground by Tuesday morning. There is a good chance that several areas pick up a decent snowfall out of this… especially in southeastern Kentucky. School delays and cancellations in April? Very Possible!!
In addition to the snow… the threat for a hard freeze is with us Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.
If you are looking for spring… keep looking as the pattern looks ugly for a while! Another storm is likely to bring a cold rain to us by the end of next week. Yuck!
Have a great Saturday and enjoy it while you can. Take care.

Thanks Chris for the update even though it wasn’t what I wanted to hear.
YUCK, Chris! I don’t like the forecast much after today! But, this to shall pas. Gues we are just typical Ky fans, whether its basketball, or weather. We eryone who has had my brother in your are impatient! 😉
Thanks for the update, and the heads up. It is appreciated.
Also, thanks to everyone who has had my brother in your prayers. He came through his surgery very well, and the Dr is optimistic about his recovery. Biven the health problems he has, we are very thankful that everything is good to this point, and hope it continues.
Well, gotta get ready to go to Lexington. Got wedding dress alterations fittings today. The girls and I are going to make a day out of it. Will check in later!
So i noticed this morning the forecast does not indicate how much snow?? Yesterday showed the Lex area and Morehead area with possible 4-6 inches..now there’s “snow squalls” and snow showers, does that mean you have backed down from your previous assumptions? Just curious what to expect.
Oh no…please, please NO MORE SNOW DAYS! It has already knocked me out of taking summer classes at EKU. 🙁
It is quite interesting though to see such a weather pattern in April.
Thanks Chris for the update. I guess we had better REALLY ENJOY this weekend. Because the YUCK MODE sets in on Monday..BLAH!!!..
SO Chris are we still expecting the kind of snowfall accumulations like from the previous post?…That snowfall map would do Jan. and Feb. well..BUT APRIL!!!…sheesh!!
Coffeelady.. good to hear your brother made it through surgery well. Dont get up there in Lex. and spend all that Money..LOL…
Thanks for the update Chris!
Tonight’s the night…GO TARHEELS!!!
That’s right, John. GO TARHEELS!!! 😉
😉 I think were the only Tarheel fans on here, thats ok though…GO HEELZ!!!:)
1-3 looks possibly nws saying 31 with .1 to .25 PRECIPITATION at 31 rain is not possible…intersting
Please keep my family in your thoughts a prayers my grandmother recently passed away. Looks like we better enjoy all the sunshine we can, of course it looks to get yucky for Easter. Take care all!
stuck in moderation
Maybe it will melt on contact…I would like to see it, but don’t want it to cause school delays.
Hi to everyone, hope you’re having a great weekend.
#@&%*$^!!!!!!!
I’m having a real hard time wrapping my head around that snow map given how beautiful it is outside today.
Still in denial!!!!!
I echo the GO TarHeels!!
A beautiful day…and SURPRISE!- no high winds to go along w/it!!??:) (Has anyone else noticed lately that whenever it’s a nice, warm, pleasant day, it’s always so damned WINDY you can’t enjoy it?!)
Y’all ain’t gonna like me much for this, but WTH…?!- I am all for the snow (anything we can GET) this coming week. I make comments on other blogs and everyone is soooo ready for “severe/tornadic” storms?! Apparantly they weren’t around 35 yrs. ago yesterday,or lost someone in the twisters (like me), so therefore, do not know what they speak of??!;)
Bring on the flurries, knee-deep snow, etc etc…I’ll take it! At least I won’t have to waste anxiety med’s on snow/ice.LOL!;)
55 and full sun today has been perfect CB
boo-hiss Deb! LOL!
LOL, patty!:)
Just sayin’…better than all that severe mess…if I can’t have snow, I want warm weather, too. Just not all that dang WIND we’ve been having every pretty day lately!? Today was perfect!
I agree with Deb 100% everybody is all for damaging life taking severe Tstorms but nobody wants a snow that causes minor inconvenience. Bring the SNOW
I agree with Andy and Debbie 100%! I don’t like the severe weather. And to be truthful I would take snow even if it was in July! lol I don’t like the summer when it’s hot and so very humid. Kills my allergies. Sorry guys, I’m a snow lover any time of the year. lol
A minor inconvenience? Since you’re talking about really bad storms (tornadoes, floods, extremely high wind events), which typically takes lives, then I guess we can throw in these snowstorms/ice storms, or whatever else in winter, that can take numerous lives from the cold, vehicular accidents, and so on. Seems damaging/life threatening to me???
Many people have lost their lives due to extreme cold and snowy conditions just as they have due to severe weather. One is just as dangerous as the other.
I wonder in the last 10 yrs what more people have been killed by Severe weather or Cold and snow – auto accidents
And what’s the ratio of severe storms to snowstorms?
Either way, both are taking lives. One can be just as bad as the other.
one in 25 “snowstorms” in ky would pose a threat to life a peroperty lol
special weather statement issued by JKL…here is just a bit of it…
BREEZY AND MUCH COLDER CONDITIONS ARE THEN EXPECTED BEHIND THE COLD
FRONT. TEMPERATURES ON MONDAY WILL LIKELY REACH EARLY HIGHS BEFORE
FALLING INTO THE 30S BY LATE IN THE AFTERNOON… AND THEN TO
FREEZING OR BELOW BY TUESDAY MORNING. AS A RESULT… SCATTERED TO
NUMEROUS RAIN SHOWERS ON MONDAY WILL LIKELY TRANSITION OVER TO SNOW
SHOWERS BY MONDAY NIGHT. THE SNOW SHOWERS WILL THEN PERSIST INTO THE
DAY ON TUESDAY BEFORE DIMINISHING TUESDAY NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY
MORNING. LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS OF WET SNOW ARE LIKELY WITH THIS
SYSTEM… ESPECIALLY OVER THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF SOUTHEAST
KENTUCKY WHERE SEVERAL INCHES ARE POSSIBLE BY WEDNESDAY MORNING.
………………………….
YUCK!!!!!…several inches of snow on my tulips..not what the MRS. at my house wants to hear…lol..
OK,peeps..my bloggin’ buddies…~
For ONE..I am NOT condoning either snow/ice, nor severe weather…?! EACH has it’s OWN hazards. I am speaking from my heart-I was 11 when the April 3, 74 tornadoes wreaked havoc thru Nelson Co. and claimed the life of my cousin-the only fatality in Nelson Co…-she refused to go across the road and get in her church basement and was found some 300 ft. later in a pig sty..I saw her daughter and grandaughter a couple wks later in the grocery store and both were nothing but a “big walking BRUISE”(flying debris-the daughter lives around the corner from me now-no basement, etc..makes me wonder??!) I SAW the twister from about 10+ miles away-I have been on anxiety med’s since because of nightmares, storms, etc…it NEVER leaves me?!:(
At least whenever a snowstorm is due, you DO have ADVANCED WARNING!? I like storms, too..there’s nothing like a good heavy rain/thunder to put me to sleep..but if there’s wind/warnings around, I’d rather have a blizzard…not something that can freakin’ DROP ON YOU @ any moment and take your life or the ones you love.
I might also add..when I was around 15,we were enroute to my aunt’s house in Oklahoma…came upon this HUGE BLACK(imagine tires/rubber burning..pitch black)cloud…a tornado was like within 5 miles of us on the Muskogee Turnpike..the whole sky was engulfed in “black smoke”(clouds)-we hit the pedal and SCREAMED down the Hwy…got to my aunt’s safely…found out later the twister had came directly across the Tpk.where several cars had taken ‘shelter’…we were LUCKY.
I don’t know about that, I think we’ve seen some snowstorms without advanced warning around here, lol. And we get warnings for storms too.
One can be just as bad as the other. Someone’s life taken away by a tornado vs. stuck in a blizzard freezing to death on the other side. Plenty of stories for many of us and our families in either case.
Those who like to see thunderstorms don’t like to see the destruction just as those who want to see a snowstorm don’t either. For that matter, I like to see both, no preference for me, lol.
tim, let snow GO and maybe it will leave lol. YOU keep lookin for it lol.
WOW didnt go to moderation, Please keep my family in your prayers, my grandmother recently passed away.
