Good Monday to one and all and welcome to the week that says goodbye to March and hello to April! March roared in the a lion across most of the country. Folklore tells us it should go out like a lamb, but maw nature has other ideas. ![]()
We are coming off of a half and half weekend. Saturday was decent while Sunday was a very chilly day with showers and even reports of a few flakes of snow for some. Today looks to be a pretty good day across the region as some sunshine returns and temps head back into the 50s. Tuesday looks even better just ahead of a cold front that moves in later that night into the first day of the new month. Highs will reach the 60s as clouds increase and winds pick up.
That front will bring showers and some thundershowers to us into the first half of Wednesday. Some of the rains may be locally heavy, but this will be a quick moving system. Here is the GFS for Wednesday morning…
Clouds may try to break up by the late afternoon hours Wednesday.
The next storm will be quickly on the heels of the above system and will be moving in here later Thursday or early Friday. The timing of this one can change over the next few days and that’s something we can watch for. If we can somehow get this to move through Thursday night… we might actually have some nice weather for both Thursday and Friday. That is a big IF though. The GFS shows the storm for Friday morning…
That should be another decent rainmaker around here and that is becoming a common theme of late and should continue into April as our active pattern rolls on. The signs continue to point toward a wet and colder period trying to take shape next week. I know… that is not the news any of us want to hear during this time of year.
The models are all saying it could get ugly next week. When I say UGLY… I mean UGLY!!! Take a look…

I know for most of you… looking at those maps doesn’t mean a whole lot to you. Let’s just say that that is one heck of a chilly and damp pattern that would give us the CHANCE of seeing snow for the 7th month in a row!
While that would be a cool feat… it is one I would rather not have to go through since I am wanting spring and wanting it right now! I usually get what I want too. hahahaha
Since it’s Monday… let’s give something to make you get up and shake it. Please, Hammer, Don’t Hurt ‘Em…

Hey, I am the first to post!!! Don’t be too down about the rainy weather Chris is talking about. Just remember April showers bring May flowers. Guess someone knew that April was supposed to be a wet month.
Stay away rain
29 this morning on my front porch with a decent frost
john calapari likely the next UK coach by wednesday.
more rain on the way by tommorow night.
ESPN is reporting UK met with him yesterday. Memphis Commercial Appeal is reporting on its web site that Calipari met with his players this morning. Wouldn’t surprise me if there is an announcement this afternoon.
boooooo on the rain have had enough
Next week is spring break for a lot of schools, wouldn’t you know it would be cold and rainy!

Interesting comments from the Memphis newspaper’s sports columnist…
—
“Would Calipari succeed in his first two years at Kentucky?
Yes, he probably would. He’d bring DeMarcus Cousins and John Wall — two prize Memphis recruits — along with him to Lexington. He’d try to persuade Kentucky’s Jodie Meeks and Patrick Patterson to stay. If they came back, Kentucky would be ranked in the top five at the start of the year. As Calipari likes to say, it would be on like Donkey Kong.
The season would be interesting. Calipari has never been successful in an elite conference before. He won big in the Atlantic 10 at UMass. At Memphis, he didn’t win a title until Louisville and Cincinnati left.
The SEC will never be confused with the Big East or the ACC, mind you. It was a downright hideous league this year. But winning at Florida, Arkansas and even Vanderbilt is harder than winning at SMU, Tulane and Rice.
So, absolutely, it’s a risk. It’s picking two in the bush over one in the hand.
Is Calipari willing to do that?
It’s looking like he might.
College basketball’s ultimate outsider may not be able to resist the invitation to come on in.”
Thanks Chris…Of course it’ll be cold and rainy! I have this next weekend off!
I didn’t think we’d get to those highs that were forecast today. Sure enough, we’re about 7 degrees lower right now here.
Well, good afternoon, weather and sports fans. Can’t complain about todays weather, as it is gorgeous out there! WE are currently in the mid 50s here, but with lots of sunshine and light winds, I will take it!
WE could likely see one more pretty day tomorrow, before the rain moves back in, from what I am reading. I hope so. Patty, I heard last night that Saturday is supposed to be nice, but, of course, then there is the dreaded 7 days out thing 😉
As far as Calapari coming to UK…..I am going to take a wait and see attitude about it. The only thing I WILL say is that UK needs to be sure that they get it right this time. IF they don’t, then there will be more openings than just a basketball coach in a couple of years.
Thanks for the update, Chris. You are so appreciated, and you are not the only one who is clamoring for spring, either, my friend. But since you always get what you want….maybe we can ALL benefit from it! 😀 Sounds good to me!
yea CB give us some snow for april 6 inches or so will do. btw looking at it from an averages point of view we are due an april snowstorm
in the 60s here i dunno what they forecasted cause i typically don’t trust them anyways
Lol SE KY is due a snowstorm every month
when was the last time we had a decent april snow or atleast 4 or 5 inches? 20 or 30 years i’d guess?? anyone know?
if you wanna see it snow in North Dakota, lookie here! I hope this link works, seems very long!!??

i know we got 2” in april 20 1996 and 1” in april 2002, but thats not a real snow event
you guys got that 6-9 inches in jan. 2003 that hammered you and northern ky it just broke up over lex and we got 3”
we got 1.5 or 2” april 5 or so 2007 if i recall right. i remeber i just got a new paintball gun that day
The maps get confusing for me but I enjoy trying to see what you see in them. I can always learn a little as we go. Thanks for all your hard work, Chris. My ferns made it last night without harm. I may cover them up again tonight – just to be on the safe side.
The last one I remember was in 1987…it snowed almost 6 inches(Johnson Cty) and melted by the next day.
and what about since then ? 😉 you guys have had all the snow and NNK has had next to nothing
HI
Not sure how much snow fell because I was busy having a baby, but on March 30 1987 we had plenty of snow. My Dr. was on Waterson Expressway doing dounuts trying to see how slippery it was on his way to the hospital. Mean while there I lay waiting. That baby turned into a wonderful young man of 22 today. He is the best! Just one proud MaMa here.
I can’t believe no one has mentioned the blast from the past…..Stop…..Hammer Time!
i got super bored a few hour ago so i created a new youtube account and made this video ….. a lil imature but oh well!
