Good Monday everyone! Here is hoping you had a wonderful weekend. What was not to like about the weather out there? We had plenty of sunshine and nice mild temps and that is a trend we will see for a couple more days before the weather takes a walk on the wild side. Winter is trying to make a comeback once again meaning we have a nice battle with spring shaping up across the country over the next few weeks.

These two guys just can’t seem to get along…

So, when the boys start acting up… mother nature can get a little crazy on us and that is exactly what is happening today across the plains states. A big time severe weather outbreak is likely across the central part of the country while a blizzard rages across the Dakotas. The same Dakotas that were near 80 just a day ago!

Here is a map showing all the advisories and warnings across the country…

While that storm cranks across the plains… we are on the mild side of it meaning temps today will be well into the mid and upper 60s then into the lower 70s for Tuesday. Winds will be increasing on Tuesday and that will carry us into Wednesday when that cold front is moving in from the west. This front will bring showers and thunderstorms to the state, but the early morning arrival of the front may help keep the severe weather threat down. Here is what the GFS looks like for Wednedsay…

Wednesday Morning

Wednesday Afternoon

Highs Wednesday will likely be in the 50s. This is where the real battle of the seasons gets underway as a major push of cold air pours into the central states as it eyes the eastern part of the country. The setup with this continues to have the look of a big time rain producer that can also bring some nasty thunderstorms. Here is the setup upstairs from the GFS for this coming Saturday…

That bowling ball of energy will be able to pump warm and moist air in here by later Friday into Saturday that should be able to produce heavy rains along with the chance for some strong thunderstorms. Here is what that setup looks like at the surface…

Those maps are nasty looking with a severe weather outbreak from the Ohio Valley into the south and a possible blizzard raging across the plains again. Will it turn out that way? Stay tuned!

Oh yeah… the whole winter thing isn’t over just yet…

Sunday Evening

That would be enough for some rain and snows to end the weekend and start off the new week!

I will have another update later tonight so be sure to check back. Until then… have a great day and GO BIG BLUE!!!

Take care.
