Good Friday everyone and welcome to spring! It is now officially here as it arrives at 7:44 am this morning meaning you can go out and shake your groove thing to a new season!
It is known as the Vernal Equinox and it is the exact moment that the suns direct rays cross the equator back into the northern hemisphere. Here is a chart showing what I am talking about…
So go out and celebrate the coming of spring… but you had better do it with a coat as things are a bit chilly around here. Temps to start us out today will be in the upper 20s and lower 30s and will only rise toward the upper 40s. A mix of sun and clouds will be with us and if the sun shows itself more… we can hit 50 in a few areas.
Saturday will feature another chilly start to the day before temps warm into the middle and upper 50s. Sunday will be even warmer with temps into the lower 60s. We are likely to see a few clouds trying to filter in here over the weekend as the milder air pushes in and we will have to watch to see if these can spit out a few drops of rain… especially Sunday.
60s and maybe even a 70 will be with us for Monday and Tuesday as southwesterly winds increase. A deep trough will be anchored across the plains states and is likely to produce a decent severe weather outbreak out there. This stuff will move toward us Wednesday and Thursday and we will see if it can give us some boomers.
The models are saying the cold is coming again late next week and beyond into early April. They have not been performing very good in recent weeks so I would not get too worried over it. But… the analog years do suggest a nice spring chilly spell might be ahead of us. ![]()
Have a great Friday everyone and an even better weekend. I will update things as usual so be sure to check back. Since the weekend is what we have all been working for. I give you this…
I think I still have a pair of those pants! It’s okay to admit it… that’s the first step toward recovery from the 80s!
Take care.
Hmm, did I catch British royalty, including princess Di in that vid? Maybe my eyes were fooling me.
Anyhow, I don’t think it was the pants by themselves that made the 80’s, but anyway, I digress.
Chris, I would guess that at least 80 percent of people, and maybe as much as 90 percent of the people working today are “working for the weekend.” I wondered how this song would come back to me eventually, and now I see it. I’ve been thinking about it for weeks on end.
I guess in the weather world, we’re going from one extreme to the other? Real nice days to real nasty ones?
I’m still awaiting our drenching rainfall, and since we haven’t gotten in like we have in past years with deluges of March rainfall, I can only imagine what April will bring. YUK!
Somewhere in this area will get in on an extremely rainy start to the spring season, probably north of Somerset and south of Louisville….
Can we get another repeat of 97 or 98 (whatever year it was) with the 8+ inches of rainfall in 3 hours? Might happen…
Pause the vid at 4:04 and look at it. Now who does that remind you of? Exactly.
It’s kind of sad, actually.
*sigh* I still miss her, even though I never knew her. Such a beautiful one she was……….
Happy Spring Everybody!!
My relatives and friends in Houston have been running their A/C on and off all winter but I feel we have had a very cold November through February so I am ready for warmer weather!! My mom is planting her garden this weekend. (in Houston)
Can somebody tell me the name of the yellow flower that is always the first thing to bloom each spring? We’ve got them all over our farm but I don’t know the name.
Also, does anybody know the name of the invasive, non-native bush that is currently budding? Nothing else has turned green yet, but this bush is always off and running by St. Paddy’s Day. We try to keep them under control but they are impossible to kill.
March has not been too stormy or windy — yet! I hope it stays that way.
🙂
Are the yellow flowers Daffodils?
The other might be honeysuckle.
Who is really looking at the weather right now Go Elliott County Lions bring home the Sweet 16 Trophy
Yes…and down here along the ky/tn border they have been in full bloom since early Feb.. the trees are in full bloom, the early ones such as the bradford pears. and I have noticed a few folks in my neighborhood have been cutting the grass already…AHHH…nothing like the smell of fresh cut grass in spring!!!!..
sad to say its in the 20’s here this morning with a huge frost…YUCK!!
Next up for WKU, the Zags, bascially a road game…WKU all the way!!!
I’m really torn on this game!! I really want WKU to win, but I’m from the Northwest and am a big Zags fan. And I’m really rooting for Elliott County in the Sweet 16.
As for weather, it sure is getting beautiful outside. It didn’t freeze at my house last night, my plants are sure happy about that. Keeping my fingers that it’s the same tomorrow morning.
Have a wonderful Friday everyone and be careful whatever you might be doing.
GO Hilltoppers!! My son is a WKU student and he’s sooooooooooo happy!
They look like daffodils but I’ve heard them called something else. They grow wild all over our farm.
Honeysuckle is also all over the place but these bushes that are currently budding out don’t have a flower at any time so they must be something else. They take over the fencelines out here and no matter what you do to them, they always grow back. I’m already at war with them and it’s only a few hours into spring. 🙂
Thanks!
The Tops rule. Always very under-rated despite their long rich history of basketball there. I don’t understand it. Where else can you get a met. degree AND see some of the finest basketball in the nation? WKU!
Dude, stop your whining and enjoy your tournament run…
My rooting interest today:
Morehead State
Utah
Dayton
Mizzou
Ok. State
Tomorrow:
WKU
Texas
LSU
…
I think we call them jonquils here in this part of the country. Other people call them easter lilies, even though they are not lilies. Hope that helps. 😉
Good afternoon to all on this OFFICIAL first day of Spring! And it sure is a beauty! A little bit cool, but, that will change gradually, I hope. It would be so nivce t actually HAVE spring weather, instead of going from cold to hot.
Chris, I want to thank you for that video. I really like that song, but never had any idea of who sang it. Now I know!
Now, about the tourney….how’bout them ‘toppers! I was so proud of them last night, but not surprised. I had them picked to win that game! ANd tonight we get to root for the Eagles of MSU! GO MOREHEAD STATE!!!!
Chris, I can promise you that we will have a chilly spell coming up end of March, into April. That is about the time dogwood trees will be blooming, and it will be dogwood winter. (Usually happens around Easter, no matter when it is)And it usually lasts for about a week or ten days….
Ahwell, Happy Friday to everyone, and Happy first day of Spring! About lunch time, so I gotta go! Later!
Oh snap, Vinny! You did not just say you’re going to root for LSU tomorrow!! No corn dog for you, buddy! 😉
GO TARHEELS!
Are you gonna’ whine when UNC wins by 46 tomorrow?
Actually, I hope UNC loses by 46. Can’t stand UNC…or Puke for that matter.
Isn’t it annoying how Winter has one last attempt during the first of April? It’s like we always get one last cold spell after the trees are bloomed out and that is annoying. But…it’s much better now than it was 5 or 6 weeks ago!
no, I’m rooting for LSU, but I do not have an emotional tie to the program..
I’ll be damn WXman, we Finally agree on something… I too hate UNC & Puke..!
OK. ST. bring my 1st “rooting interest” home 77-75…
…
I’ll be whining for sure. I know the ‘Heels can do better than that. 😉
Right there with ya on the dislike of Duke though.
it happens every other year let’s hope the cold is done with. by the way the WKU met program is up to grad level now.
3-0 with my rooting interest thus far today…!
My rooting interest today:
Morehead State
Utah
Dayton 68-60 over WVU
Mizzou 78-59 over Cornell
Ok. State 77-75 over Tenn
Tomorrow:
WKU
Texas
LSU
…
maybe dandylion….
takes over the yard every year…
east tenn st. effort leaves a small ray of hope for morehead, that was 1 possesion game 16 vs 1 with 3 to go.
morehead winning late first half chris must be going wild.
Jonquils – that’s what I’ve heard them called. Thanks Coffeelady!!
2-point game at the half…!
Hell, my entire house is going wild..!!!
…
small ray of hope has closed.
Is it still a 2 point game?
This is why I hate Loserville…
At the last break, they are running off the court bobbing their heads up and down, sticking out their tongues, disrespecting MSU players and fans…
My God boys, they’re a 16-seed..!!! You are supposed to beat them bad..! geez…
I hate Loserville, Did I mention that..??? HATE ‘EM..!!!
…
No disrespect Vinny, But doesnt most teams do that. I see it all the time
Oh,you’re not disrespecting… lol
They could walk off, shake hands, say MSU was a great opponent and all that crap…
I will STILL hate them…!
Always have, always will..!
If Loserville were to play the Iranian National team, and Ahmadinejad was the starting point guard, I would be yelling, ieeeiieieiieieieieiieieie…!!!
I HATE ’em… lol
…
Ahhhhh…..sorry about MSU, Chris. I was rooting for them. And the sur egot some good press from the TV guys! That can be nothing but good!
I was so proud of them, going out there and just taking it to UL! And they can say they did something that a lot of other teams can’t…..they won one game in the NCAA tournament! KUDOS to the Morehead State EAGLES!!!!!
By the way, from the scores I have seen today, and from the seeding, this tourney is so wide open, at this point it is anybody’s guess as to who will win it all! Should be interesting, anyway.
Just some more in state hatred for Louisville. I can’t count how many times I’ve hard “Loserville” or “Lousyville.” Man, if the Cards were to win it this year, or make the Final Four, most of you guys will need grief counseling.
Parts of northwestern Arkansas are getting pounded tonight. Would’nt be surprised to see reports of upwards of 4 inches of rainfall in that area in the past few hours.
I’ll take that back. Based on radar estimates from areas in an around the northwestern part of Arkansas, some places have seen near 3″ of rain since 7:00 P.M. Friday.
Still a pretty good rain event, and thos folks will only get more.
If Louisville won it all this year, that would mean the Tarheels didn’t…so of course, I would need grief counseling. 😉
euro and 06z gfs hinting at winter’s last stand to end the month. next week looks to bring us much needed rainfall.
