Good Monday to one and all. Here is hoping each of you had a fantastic weekend here in the bluegrass state! Spring was in the air from temps in the 70s to some severe thunderstorms. The last week has been rather wild and the week ahead looks wild. Actually… the rest of the month looks like it will be walking on the wild side.

Today will find a weak front across the region that will be lifting back to the north as a warm front. Temps in the south will head toward 70 while the north may stay in the 50s this afternoon. Winds will be gusty as well under partly sunny skies. The warmer air moves back in tonight with temps slowing rising by daybreak. There could be a couple of showers or thunderstorms rolling southeastward along the warm front so that will be something for us to watch out for.

That brings us to Tuesday and what is likely to be an out and out very warm day! Temps will be well into the 70s with a shot at some lower 80s if we can get enough sunshine. Winds will be wicked during this time and that is not good news for the brush fire threat.

The strong cold front will sweep through here Tuesday night and very early Wednesday. This is likely to bring a squall line of strong or severe thunderstorms to the area as MUCH colder air bumps up against the warmth that will be in place. The cold will win the battle and winds will be another big factor during this time as well. Watch the severe and wind threat with this one folks!

Temps will drop quickly on Wednesday with most areas in the 40s by afternoon. The cold front will stall out to our south and we are likely to see weak areas of low pressure develop and move northeast along this boundary. Depending on exactly where this front checks up… rain and snow will be a very real possibility around here late this week into the weekend.

The models are UGLY looking…

GFS Friday Evening

Canadian Friday Morning

This will be interesting to watch to see how it all plays out and the blog will be watching it as always. Beyond this weekend… some of the models are nasty looking. The Canadian model does not make me a happy weather dude to look at it as it shows a wicked pattern for the middle of the month…

Now THAT would be some serious mid March cold for much of the country. The European model has been showing something similar in recent runs. Again… this is what we have been talking about for the past few weeks. We said this warm pattern we are in right now was false spring and that appears to be the case. Moral of the weather story… enjoy the next few days!

By the way… I want to say a big hello to the fine folks down at W.R. Castle Elementary and Highland Elementary down in Paintsville. I was down there Friday talking to a bunch of students about weather and got to meet a lot of nice people. The blog has a lot of fans down there so I promised to give them a big shout out!

Have a great Monday my friends and take care.
