Good Monday to one and all. Here is hoping each of you had a fantastic weekend here in the bluegrass state! Spring was in the air from temps in the 70s to some severe thunderstorms. The last week has been rather wild and the week ahead looks wild. Actually… the rest of the month looks like it will be walking on the wild side.
Today will find a weak front across the region that will be lifting back to the north as a warm front. Temps in the south will head toward 70 while the north may stay in the 50s this afternoon. Winds will be gusty as well under partly sunny skies. The warmer air moves back in tonight with temps slowing rising by daybreak. There could be a couple of showers or thunderstorms rolling southeastward along the warm front so that will be something for us to watch out for.
That brings us to Tuesday and what is likely to be an out and out very warm day! Temps will be well into the 70s with a shot at some lower 80s if we can get enough sunshine. Winds will be wicked during this time and that is not good news for the brush fire threat.
The strong cold front will sweep through here Tuesday night and very early Wednesday. This is likely to bring a squall line of strong or severe thunderstorms to the area as MUCH colder air bumps up against the warmth that will be in place. The cold will win the battle and winds will be another big factor during this time as well. Watch the severe and wind threat with this one folks!
Temps will drop quickly on Wednesday with most areas in the 40s by afternoon. The cold front will stall out to our south and we are likely to see weak areas of low pressure develop and move northeast along this boundary. Depending on exactly where this front checks up… rain and snow will be a very real possibility around here late this week into the weekend.
The models are UGLY looking…
GFS Friday Evening
Canadian Friday Morning
This will be interesting to watch to see how it all plays out and the blog will be watching it as always. Beyond this weekend… some of the models are nasty looking. The Canadian model does not make me a happy weather dude to look at it as it shows a wicked pattern for the middle of the month…

Now THAT would be some serious mid March cold for much of the country. The European model has been showing something similar in recent runs. Again… this is what we have been talking about for the past few weeks. We said this warm pattern we are in right now was false spring and that appears to be the case. Moral of the weather story… enjoy the next few days! ![]()
By the way… I want to say a big hello to the fine folks down at W.R. Castle Elementary and Highland Elementary down in Paintsville. I was down there Friday talking to a bunch of students about weather and got to meet a lot of nice people. The blog has a lot of fans down there so I promised to give them a big shout out! ![]()
Have a great Monday my friends and take care.

I can’t believe it is 7:50 and it appears that I am the first one to comment this morning. Where is everyone? I am hoping that you all didn’t blow away in the storm last night:-)
It is chilly here in Jackson County this morning, but the heat is on and we are ready for school to begin. HOpe everyone has a wonderful day!
No storms here last night just some decent rain cool here this morning as well
06Z GFS shows the same thing as 00Z that Chris posted…very interesting looking for Saturday. I’d hate to see more ice. It’s time for warmth now.
Has anyone else had this flu or strep or whatever is going around? I’ve had it since friday, just didnt feel to good, then saturday morning woke up with a severe sore throat, i can barley drink or eat anything cause of it, i still have it today, ive been running a fever, not high, right around 100.2, i know i have a very bad sinus infection, but im just really weak & tired, i look like crap, im a walking zombie (so i’ve been told), but this throat hurting this bad really is getting to me. Theres a few other things going on, but i have a really nasty cough with it. I have went through hall’s like they were candy but nothings helping. I started antibiotics i think saturday, after i realized its not going away on its own, there 500mg, but i dont think its helping, but then again it may not have had time. My ears are hurting & itching really bad to. I’m going to the doctor this morning, im just nervous cause ive never felt this bad before. Anybody else had this or going through the same thing?
I agree we don’t need any ice but it would be nice to have at least 1 decent snow before spring is here to stay.
Try Ricola drops they help with the sore throat and there is some type of virus going around that is similar to strep get blisters swollen tonsils the whole bit
Everyone at my house has this dreaded bug. Same symptoms as yours. It lasts about a week (the really bad part anyway) the cough seems to hang around longer. Nothing helps I have tried everything. Hope you feel better.
Megan…My son had the very same symptoms last month! He’s a WKU student and wasn’t able to attend classes he was so ill! He was diagnosed with a rare kind of strep and mono! The antibiotics weren’t able to help with the sore throat pain so they finally gave him steroids to help with the swelling and pain. It was a week before he started feeling better. I hope you have a speedy recovery.
In moderation
sunny and 58*…not looking forward to more cold air, all the bradford pears are about in full bloom down here now that we’ve had several warm days….well I guess we’ll have to take what ever is dished out though..its ky. weather…
on a NOT weather related note: my wife and kids were in a very bad wreck this morning about 8:30, THANK GOD NOONE WAS HURT…but the van it a total loss, just wanted to say…that it really makes you THANKFUL for your family and life in general the van is material things and can be replaced, my wife and kids cannot…so how bout taking the extra time today to let the wife, husband, and kids know just how special they really are and how much you do love them!!!…:)…later gang…
let me know if there is anything i can do Tim
the good news is the front appears to be slowing down for tuesday night which would mean the storms would hold off till well after the peak heating hours reducing the risk for severe weather. the bad news for some is winter’s coming back by the end of the week and if we do get 30’s and precip i’d rather snow than rain and especially that other thing.
my orgianl gutsy call for above norm temps actually looks good through the first several days lex 1* above norm and frankfort 4* above normal. that’s why even when it’s tempting never change your answer on a mult choice test b/c you first answer is usually right.
well if you still want snow, cling to the 12z run of the gfs coming out…man it has a monster snowstorm for all of ky. on its 192,204,and 216 hr. run that is just now coming out…
Tim glad you and your family are ok. You are right, we forget the important thngs of life.
Arron, on the last thread you mentioned the years 98/99 and the flooding. I was living in S.C. at that time but wasn’t that the spring of the major tornado/severe storm outbreak that hit Nashville really hard then moved ese. I recall a night of hell in the Carolinas with tornados/storms and such.

Also another link not weather related. Here is a Paul Harvey clip I found that has a lot of meaning, I dont know who’s sight it is but listen to the clip.http://redmancheyenne.multiply.com/video/item/895/Paul_Harvey_Letter_from_God
I have been a snow lover for years…. I don’t know why but this year….I’m ready for warm weather. I’m tired of all of the ice/cold….mainly the ice.
Tim…you are so right. I hope everything turns out ok.
Tim, I’m so glad your family is okay! You have the right attitude, the car can be replaced…what you’ve got in your family is priceless.
Did somebody say, SNOW? 🙂
Thanks samatha, i went to the drs & i had tonsillitis, sinus infection & my lymph notes are swelled, more on the right then the left, the funny thing is, my right one stays swelled alot, doesnt hurt or anything but i believe i have bad sinuses. I also had thyroid problems years ago but i had 2 blood tests done & they were all ok, thats why i think i have very bad sinuses that keep flaring my lymph note up. They gave me a shot today & put me on 2 types of medicine, i feel alil better but ur right, nothing helps. This is a nasty bug, its last a long time. The cough i heard lasts for 3 -4 weeks. I know the cough is bad, but its nothing compared to the sore throat. The drainiage is whats cause mine to be so red & swollen. Its hurts to swallow :(. I’m losing my voice (kids are loving it lol) & she said my o2 is 99 & my chest sounds clear right now, she said right now cause it goes into ur chest so quicky & im already hurting there. When my lymph note swells, it hurts into my chest, only from time to time, but long story, it only started after my aunt passed away in jan. I have had a terrible time since then. Ive had 3 ekg’s, 2 bloodtests & everything, everything comes back fine. I have been diagonised with panic disorders & anxiety, on top of depression, so its rough to even get out of bed, & this bug only makes it worse. It makes u so weak. I dont even wanna get off the couch!

my comments aren’t wanting to go through, it keeps going through moderation. Samatha I tried to respond to your post, hopefully it will come through. We are you located?
Good afternoon to all. We currently have sunshine and 64 degrees here in Somerset. It is an absolutely beautiful day! After the storms we had last night, the calmness is beautiful. Wind is not a problem at the moment; at least not here.
Chris, I don’t really want the coldweather back, either. but I guess you and I (and everyone else, for that matter 😉 ) will just have to deal with it. I am ready for spring, but I fear it’s not ready for us just yet….at least, its not ready to stay for a while.
I really hope the storms are not wevere tomorrow night. I hate it when it is storming (severe) after nightfall. Just can’t see as well to see what it looks like outside.
Anyway, have a GREAT afternoon, and enjoy the day!
Tim! I am so glad to hear that your family is all ok. They will be terribly sore tomorrow, I will bet. And you are soooo right. The van is replacable! I always tell my hubby and family when I talk to them that I love them. That is very good advice, Tim.
megan, one of the guys I work with had to leave this morning and pick up his son from school with that. His wife has had it for 2 weeks, and his daughter had it last week. Hope you are feeling better soon.
Isn’t it funny how often we must be reminded of what is truly important in our lives? I’m thankful to hear every on well Tim.
Tim, bless you and your family. I get up every morning and give a kiss, hug, and my heart to my husband. Life goes so quick, I try to hold onto it and keep it close. Weather, sunny and 65*, and I’m tired of gray-I want green!
Tim, God really blessed you & your family:) I’m very happy that all is well with all of you. I know that my family has been through a lot of bad stuff lately, most recently, my dear uncle’s Liver Cancer-he’s 67, has all kinds of heart & kidney prob’s, but his decision was for a transplant, and the Lord blessed us late Sat. evening as he got his new Liver, and is doing as well as can be expected @ this time! Plus, 5 others benefited from the same 30 yr old donor, as well!:)
Now, on this snow thing..I am healing(slowly..) from the broken collarbone from the ice storm, but I am ready & willing for a couple more snowstorms! I mean, think about it..everytime we have a nice warm day, the wind blows ya to Kingdome Come. Who wants that?? lol! At least with snow, my sinuses don’t run like a sugar tree!!!;)
I don’t see your other post, but I am located In Powell Co.
sounds like the movie 7 lbs the donor option is a good thing
I don’t buy it.. Warm air will win…
Good day today. Did a lot of work outside. Finished fertilizing and seeding lawn, put up a new mailbox and some remodeling work on the bathroom with help of the wife. Nice and warm out with temps upper 60’s to around 70. 66* right now.
