Good Saturday everyone and welcome to spring! Temps out there this weekend will be more typical of mid April rather than early March. The weekend will also be noted for us losing an hour of sleep. Why? Because it is time to…
It is a few weeks earlier than normal this year and all that means is we get even less time to sleep.
Oh well… such is life.
Temps are the big story out there today as highs hit the 70s across the entire area. If we can get enough sunshine… temps will have a shot at heading close to 80 for the first time since October. Time to break out the shorts! Well… that is after I break out the tan in a bottle. ![]()
Track the temps here…

Winds will be very gusty today as well under partly sunny skies. Again… this is one heck of a day shaping up out there. Our Sunday may not be as nice as we are likely to see more clouds ahead of a cold front that will swing toward the area. This front never really clears the area but should spawn some late day showers and thunderstorms from west to east. There is enough instability for the chance for some strong or severe storms Sunday evening… especially across central and western Kentucky. Here is the latest outlook from the Storm Prediction Center…
Will the front be able to cause a few more showers and storms Monday? That is something to watch out for as it returns back to the north as a warm front. This front will be draped across our region Tuesday as a strong cold front enters from the west. This is a good setup for possible heavy rain producing clusters of showers and storms withe the chance for some severe weather as the front moves through Tuesday night. Tuesday into early Wednesday could be active so check back with us over the next few days.
After that… we say goodbye to the spring weather for a while. The pattern continues to look UGLY for the middle and end to March meaning winter is not over. I am in denial of this happening so that is all you get on that right now. ![]()
I have to give props to my Morehead State Eagles as they are playing tonight for the chance to dance as they take on Austin Peay in the OVC tourney down in Nashville! As an MSU grad… it would be sweet to see the Eagles make their first NCAA tournament since the mid 80s! Fear the Eagle…
You have to cheer for Morehead against Austin Peay! I mean… do you really want to say the cheer “LET’S GO PEAY”?
Go Cats and Go Eagles! Have a great day gang and I will update later. Take care.

Go EAGLES!!! 07 Grade here… I’d love to see Morehead get in and do some damage. They are actually a very fun team to watch….
Go Eagles!!!! I went to Morehead and my son starts there this summer. I have seen them play twice this year wish this was a home game I would love to go..Its 58 here in Morehead
Thanks Chris for the update…All of you bloggers pray for my mom who is in the hospital with pneumonia.
thanks for the update, 65 here in south rowan county, William ill be praying for your mom…GO EAGLES
Going to enjoy today, but I’m ready for some late winter SNOW!!!!. Being a MSU grad I’m excited to watch them tonight. Go Eagles and Go Big Blue! Hope both my teams pull a win out today.
I’ve been harpin’ on this board to pull for the Eagles all year long…and finally I get a response. I’m tired of being the red-headed step child to UK. I’m a season ticket holder to MSU, and am super excited about tonight. Thought about going to Nashvegas, but I have other responsibilities today. By the way, the Austin Peay fans do chant “lets go peay”
On a weather note…. 67.5 degrees on the Rowan/Carter line. Great day to work on a softball field.
Awesome weather for a few days! And awesome Eagles! ’95 grad from MSU here. Let’s hope they make it to the dance!

William, I’ll say a prayer for your mom, and I hope she gets out of the hospital soon.
I’m an MSU grad, too, so I hope they win!
CB, I think you may feel the way I do about Daylight Savings time…what an inappropriate name! Fast Forward time is more like it.
I hate DST because it speeds time up and I don’t need that! 🙂 and I am always tired during this time because it messes with my body clock.
We have extra daylight in the summer anyway, why does it have to have more at the expense of speeding life up?
As a MSU student I say GO EAGLES!!!! And YEAH FOR SPRING!!!! What a day.
Well Chris I thought a whole lot of you but on that spray on tan part i have a song for you………http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yQ9a-hJVy0
the last part says it all…..never thought you’d be this way Chris…These days there’s dudes gettin’ facials
Manicured, waxed and botoxed
With deep spray-on tans and creamy lotiony hands
You can’t grip a tacklebox
Its just a joke folks, just a joke…Greatest weatherdude in the world is Chris
Grade??? LOL Grad…
Pulling for the Eagles, too, but you gotta admit Peay had the greatest cheer ever in the 70’s when they had Fly Williams.
“The Fly is Open; lets go Peay!!!!”
Had a light shower cross Knox County before noon today
Daylight savings has never made any sense to me. They way I understand it, it’s supposed to save on electricity in the evenings. But it stays darker in the mornings so you’re using the electricity then. So what difference does it make? Besides that, people turn on the lights in the house whether it is dark out or not. And now the kids are waiting for the bus in the dark again. Isn’t that dangerous? Silly. I wish they’d do away with it.
78 degrees in Pikeville sunny. My hubby is in Gatlinburg Tn our friend sold his condo and they are moving furniture back,so tonight is girls night out lol!!!!! This ones for the girls lol!!!!!
Amazing day out there today, hope the Cats can pull one out today.
I agree with Wendy 100 percent.
Looks like the only thing the Cats are pulling out is the rug right under themselves.
One word describes this winter and the Cats season- a new lexicon:
KenSucky 🙁
I hate to bring bad news to all you spring lovers out there. Winter lovers here is some hope for us from Henry at accuweather: Cold returns to the East and a southern cutting storm poses a snow threat from Kentucky to New York City next weekend.
been keeping track of that one for several days now the gfs is trying to hint at something bigger while the euro has a more supressed feature.
strong storms still sunday and tuesday nights. we’ll have to watch the skies tommorow.
another wonderful preformance from our cats today niether team was any good. any call the uk atlethic department about NIT tickets i wonder what they would say.
Look what Henry says for next week or weekend
We have two days of severe weather from the eastern Plains all the way into the western Ohio Valley. Main threat will be large hail and damaging gusts. The tornado threat will be from eastern Kansas through southern Illinois.
3. Blizzard will hit from the Nebraska to Wisconsin on Tuesday. Minneapolis looks like a hot spot for nasty weather on Tuesday.
4. SPC not on the severe weather bandwagon as I am for Tuesday, but they will come around.
5. Cold returns to the East and a southern cutting storm poses a snow threat from Kentucky to New York City next weekend.
I want a big big snow sorry spring lovers I can not help it,but before we get there looks like we could see severe weather in parts of KY.
Well better go and start getting ready for girls night.I will try to be good not lol
They would say, “How many do you need, cause they aren’t selling”…
Really sad…
…
Go Eagles!!! My wife and myself are both grads.
I want more spring not more winter.
tickets! tickets are for kensucky wildcats! tickets!
Oh what a beau-t-iful day! Wishing for more like them, but it doesn’t seem like it. Hope the storms don’t come in the middles of the night like last time. Didn’t get any sleep the rest of that night.
William just said a prayer for your mom…I hope she is doing better.
Little KY contract info I found on MSNBC
The loss also spawned a new round of calls for the firing of coach Billy Gillispie.
The Neutral Zone in Louisville, usually a madhouse in March, is a big blue graveyard.
“You can come in here and get a little nap,” said Dan Zeitz. “It’s quieter here than it is in my house.”
Even University of Louisville fans are calling for Gillispie’s head on the “Early Birds” call-in show on WKRD.
Host Drew Deener said he understands the disappointment after UK’s loss to University of Georgia, but doesn’t get the rush to judgment.
“I don’t think any coach should be fired after two years — football, baseball, basketball, lacrosse,” he said. “Two years is not a reasonable amount of time to judge somebody.”
Not long after Gillispie signed on, some are looking at his work agreement, which is not a contract but a memorandum of understanding.
Attorney Jim Ellis has worked on a few dozen sports contracts and says an MOU is binding, but the devil is in the details.
“The terms are not spelled out,” Ellis said. “They speak as the future – ‘This is what we intend to do.’ They’ve never done it.”
The buyout would be $1.5 million a year for the remainder of the contract if Kentucky terminates it. But they can let him go for just cause. But there’s just one catch.
“The unknowns are, what is cause, what is not cause, why can he be terminated. I think what this has done is open the door for lawsuits,” Ellis said.
Some UK fans wouldn’t mind opening the door for this buyout.
“I think it’s time to have some serious discussion,” said Pam Flinchum.
“They’d be able to get plenty of volunteers to drive the limo if they could put [Louisville football coach Steve] Kragthorpe and Gillispie in it,” said Zeitz.
Beautiful day today!!! Went South and hit Paintsville Lake for Walleye today. Great day to be out on the water!!! No fish but still a good time. Getting closer to Catfish time!!!;)

EAGLES OVC CHAMPS!! Campus should be fun this week!
Proving an all “Kentucky weather board” congrats to Morehead…Another state school beyond beloved UK…. WKU begins their quest at 1:30 Sunday to repeat as SBC champs and hopefully another Sweet 16 appearance or beyond….Not bad considering what we lost from last years team(notably Courtney Lee who starts for the Orlando Magic)…As UK did not know this season always good to beat UofL by double digits:) regardless of what happens the next few days…
Another dig at UK…
Very classy…
…
Good site. I will go more often to you
