Good Friday to one and all! We are finally hitting the weekend and what a weather weekend it is going to be. Temps will be hitting May like levels over the next few days and I know one weather dude that will not complain. ![]()
We will see a mix of sun and clouds today and a sprinkle will be possible. Winds will be very gusty as well and this will help boost temps toward 70 in some areas. Not too shabby folks. But… it gets better than that for our weekend. Saturday has a shot at getting crazy warm around here. Mid 70s should be easy to get hit and I cannot rule out the first 80 of the year is everything goes exactly right. Wow! From single digits to near 80 in the same week… you have to love Kentucky weather.
Sunday will be another warm day as our front moving in will never get in here. It will get close enough for some scattered showers and thunderstorms later in the day. A few may be strong and we will watch it for you. Highs can hit the 70s once again if the rains hold off long enough.
Monday SHOULD be a slightly cooler day with temps in the 50s to near 60. But, the day has a shot at being warmer.
Tuesday might be a wild weather day around here as a strong cold front moves toward us. Winds will be VERY gusty and temps will be warm once again. Showers and thunderstorms will develop ahead of this front and it is a situation that will have to be watched for some severe weather. Here is the GFS for Tuesday afternoon…
That front will cross the area Tuesday night and Wednesday with much colder air moving in. Temps Wednesday will be falling quickly behind this front and may drop some 30 degrees in just a few hours.
I have been calling this warm period we are in right now a false start on spring. That looks more and more like the case as winter is going to try to come back strong for the middle of the month. The models are back to showing our famous 7 day snowstorm threat which means all is right with the weather world again.
GFS Thursday Evening/Night

That is some INCREDIBLE cold all the models are showing building up in Canada! Those same models agree with the overall pattern of significant blocking showing up which would force that cold southward into the US. Like I have said the past few days… we see some interesting analog years showing up over the next few weeks. We shall see… but I would take full advantage of the next several days if I were you! ![]()
Have a great Friday everyone and I will update things through the weekend. Take care.

This is only reference to time thru Sunday(repost from last thread that never showed up)
An informed opinion,
Severe Weather : I usually dont go so far as to post my thoughts here but I have been a little too busy this week to manage my site so here goes.
Although there will be the threat of some nasty storms over a wide area the bullseye for the most intense looks to me will be northeast Kansas, extreme sw Nebraska and wnw Missouri. At this time this area looks like it will be prime for significant severe storms including tornadoes. (This is only my interpretation). This is likely to be during the daytime on Sunday thru the mid afternoon.
Thoughts?
Thanks for the update Chris. Looks like I’ll be sick tomorrow(tee time around 10am). Then Saturday looks even better.
well my 4 plus inch snow to come looking good right now, I hate that for all u spring chickens out there.lol
did I mention BILLY G is GONE after season, thought I remind u all.
56 at 530 now i like that, but i also like 26 and snow,mmmmmmmmmm
Wow, 7 AM and in the upper 50’s in most part of the state. Unbelievable.
Enjoying this “false” spring weather…
Way to stand behind UK basketball there Rolo….is this another ‘done deal’?
Please… Listen to me, I have legit sources and I’m not kidding. Coach isn’t going anywhere.. A few others are though, put it this way, we’re going to have a big overturn in the roster.. Can’t say names just yet.
NO,NO,NO !!!! SAY IT AINT SO !!!…I DONT WANT A FALSE SPRING…:(…AH..56*,shortsleeves this morning no coats…80* !! tomorrow…YES…BRING IT ON STRONG…as for INFAMOUS 7DAY AWAY SNOWSTORM that ends up being a cold, dreary, rainy to mix to flurries storm with lots of MUD afterward…well someone else can have mine …lol…(if your wanting spring,it’ll be our luck it will be the one time that it happens)…oh well if it does,it does..if it dont, well even better…but I for one am gonna enjoy the warm weather!!!!!… have a good day gang!…
Quote — “did I mention BILLY G is GONE after season, thought I remind u all.”
Translation = Billy G. will still be here next year!
Well wouldn’t you know it! They have put Louisville (and all of KY west of I 65) in the Slight Risk zone for Sunday. Maybe NOW some mets. around here will mention this threat. Chris is on it..let’s keep an eye on this.
Also, Chris is right…y’all need to make sure you watch the new episode of When Weather Changed History on TWC…it’s about the 1974 Superoutbreak and they base the episode around Louisville. A GREAT episode to watch and remember upon…
must be mising something i dont’ see where Chris said anything about the program but thanks for letting us know WXMAN
I don’t see where anyone mentioned anything about “the program” but if you go back and read Chris’ 3rd paragraph you will see about the possibility of strong thunderstorms.
Rolo, I know “a lot” of people agree with you, but where would we be if “a lot” had there way and got rid of Coach Brooks after his 2nd season? That is just my two cents worth. I do agree with you on weather situations pretty much most of the time, but I have stick with Coach “G” for at least another year, and I will sit in the front row at the NIT. (Because I will probably be able to get seats easily and cheap) 🙂
Morning all. Woke up to 57 degrees here this morning. Currently cloudy and 61 with gusty winds. Nailed again, Chris! 😉
The weekend looks good for sure. The upcoming storminess, however, does not.
Wxman, I am glad that the slight risk zone has been included. You are right. Maybe now they will at least mention it, especially after the rounds we have already had, and the ones we had last year.
Tim, I agree 100%. But I know it is too early for spring just yet. So, I will wait, and hope that everything does not bud out and get killed.
Thanks for the update, Chris.
Chris mentioned the show a few days ago. It’s worth watching.
By the way, Chris DID mention the episode about the 1974 outbreak in the blog, a couple of days ago. Can’t remember exactly when but I remember readingit. 😉
sunday will be a slight risk for gusty winds in any strong storms however if we get enough sun tuesday afternoon hail and isolated torandoes may become threats as well if everything plays out favorabily tuesday we could see a moderate risk for severe weather.
Thanks Patty must have missed it
I am loving this weather! Warm and DRY- six lambs yesterday and all doing great, even teh two whose mom won’t take’em. Amazing the difference in liveability between 14 and 54 F. As far as storms- well, it’s spring in KY. Get ready, you know it’s coming (and thanks to Chris we know about when;))
I remember 1974, not keen to watch a show about it. Tornado skipped across the street right before of our house- deroofed every other house on our side of the street. Scaredest I have ever been.
So, no, I won’t be watching the show. Will, however, stock the emergency box in the basement this weekend!
Thanks Coffee for pointing that out i must have a memory lapse 😀
Yeah I went back and tried to find where he talked about it…thought it was just a couple days ago but I can’t find it now so I guess it was longer.
SPC talks about the system taking on a negative tilt, but I don’t see in the modeling where that is forecast to happen. ?? So I guess we will see. Right now I think we might get a Slight Risk out of it but it depends on how fast the atmosphere can recover from Sunday night.
Looks like no sunshine for us today, and therefore no 70s. Tomorrow’s chance at 80°F is HIGHLY dependent on getting these clouds out of here.
Sunny and 75 in Pikeville Wow hard to believe.I watched that show Wxman good one. What is negative tilt?
I got 75 in Pikeville. Guys didn’t it snow in April last years I have the pitures somewhere??
Only snowed in Pikeville 😉
I know it is just a couple of days, but bring on the warm temps. I love snow, but I’m tired of the bitter cold.
An informed one persons opinion:( This is not based on an official forcast or SPC you should refer to NWS for official information)
Severe Threat: The area of HIGHEST risk looks to be shifting a little more south (very little) from my placement in the top post. As known yesterday as well…….. the risk however much less risk.,…. does extend into Ky. covering much of the state on Sunday. With any severe weather the threat of a torndao is there but presently appears to be low.
It was on 2/26…he said….Speaking of the National Weather Service… I got a chance to catch part of the new episode of When Weather Changed History on The Weather Channel last night. This episode was about the Super Outbreak of 1974 and featured the NWS in Louisville. They interviewed retired forecasters who were on duty during that historic event. It really was some GREAT stuff so I would highly encourage you check it out. They also talked to a couple of the current forecasters there. Mr. Ted Funk and Mr. Joe Sullivan did a great job of illustrating just how much better technology is today compared to 1974. Kudos guys on a job well done! Give me a call if you need any makeup tips (not that it helps my ugly mug)! hahaha
Oh yeah i just forgot bout the part of TWC or NWS i usually try to block those words out 😉
its actually a little cooler here now at my house than it was this morning at 7
🙂
I don’t remember last year, but two years ago I remember it being April, and coaching a middle school baseball game at Morgan County, and getting snowed out.
I’ll never forget that night.
hey guys, i got tired of my old youtube channl(its still there) so i made a new one its like a radio show were we talk about college sports but anyway ill have some vids up i would love for uk bb fans to check out(it will be about this season).*if any of you have skype and would like to be on the show tell me and you can talk about bball with me.
i want to get sponsored by youtube because it would be cool so im trying to make controversial videos!!!
The moderation police must be working from the looks of the entries.
Anyways a windy mild day even a balmy 56 at this early hour. Sure hope it doesnt turn into a prolonged dry period.
My weather thoughts.http://mjhdp.tripod.com/stormtracker/
Going worldwide here…
Sure looks like an interesting system out in the Mediterranean Ocean right now. Wonder if that’s headed for Greece or just south of there? Hmm…
Interesting weather there.
Back on the ole homefront, things are pleasant for the past few days, thankfully…other problems (ahem) have arisen that must be taken care of. If it isn’t one thing it’s another!
Everyone take care and have a good weekend.

Nevermind that last post. Whatever it was I looked at was an old image.
*embarrassment*
