Good Thursday folks. The weather over the next few days are going to be a little quiet and that’s a good thing because your friendly weather dude is in need of some down time!
So instead of some big long winded post from me today… let us break it all down with the headlines.
1. Spring is in the air today as temps make a run toward the 60 degree mark under partly sunny skies. It will be a breezy day too.
2. Friday will see a weak front approach the state from the northwest. It will never make it in there… but will come close enough to some clouds and a stray shower or two. This may keep temps down a bit from today’s readings.
3. Saturday looks like a winner! If we can get enough sunshine… temps can easily head toward the low 70s! ![]()
4. Sunday will find a strong front moving into the area with showers and some thunderstorms to go along with gusty winds. Temps will make a run toward 60 before falling late in the day from west to east. Any sunshine ahead of the front could be enough to develop a few strong storms.
5. Colder air will try to fight it’s way in for Monday with temps near 50 as of right now with some showers.
6. One heck of a temperature gradient will set up across the country by Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Some wicked cold will be moving into the northern plains early in the week as temps across the southeast head toward the 80s. Can we get a 100 degree temp contrast across the US? I think it is certainly possible.
7. For us… temps Tuesday will surge once again ahead of our mega front. 70 will again be possible with sunshine. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible. Some strong or severe thunderstorms may form along this front and come racing eastward across the region. That is something to watch out for. Winds will be very gusty during this time with or without storms.
8. A huge drop in temps will be noted on Wednesday with showers that may end as some snow.
9. Winter is not over by any means and the pattern for the middle of the month has the look of trying to get nasty.
I will have another update coming later in the day so check back. Until then… go out and enjoy the nice weather. Oh yea… take care! ![]()

Well at least people will be able to get outside and let the warmth put a smile on their face after that terrible display of basketball tonight. I never thought that UK’s FB would be better than their BB. OMG I can’t believe I just said that.
Love the forecast Chris. All I can say is that if Billy G does not have a signed contract, what’s to stop Barnhart from running him out of town after we lose to Florida and then the first round of the SEC? I may be wrong but I don’t think he ever signed it did he?
I am SO over winter! I need sunshine and flip flops and fresh air. Enjoy a couple of “quiet” weather days CB.
Everybody needs to cheer up. We still have two Kentucky teams with great tradition that ARE playing well to cheer for..UL and WKU. Personally, I hate UL and WKU beat them earlier this year so GO TOPS!
From what I understand MikeM he hasn’t signed the contract.
Meteorological Winter is over. Check out the stats. Bowling Green was above normal on temps, LOU and LEX slightly below. All 3 stations were WET though, but not much snow. Not really a very wild Winter at all when you average it.

If you follow the Farmer’s Almanac, it is giving another nasty ice/snow event for the middle of the month…around the 16th. From what the “old timers” in my neighborhood are saying, the Almanac has been right on the money all year so far…hmmmmmmm.
As for UK BB…I don’t like Billy G…he mumbles through every interview, and he reminds me of a younger version of Eddie Sutton…didn’t like him either.
(concerning BG)Never has one man done so little with so much…
Hey Rolo,
You still giving 100 to 50 that the Cats are going to the tournament?
I hear that Morehead could make it to the Dance. So, you could possibly have 3 teams from KY in the NCAA tourney…and UK isn’t one of them! 🙂 When was the last time that happened?
Weatherwise… looks like storms are still possible Sunday night, and Tuesday. Some of them could be strong on Tuesday. *Don’t forget…Daylight Saving Time starts Sunday morning!*
They have a good shot, I’m actually a Morehead grad, Guess it’s time to trade my blue/white to blue/gold, at least until Billy G is gone.
That’s because the contract has a “morals” clause in it.
Hey MikeM!!! How are you???!
What a beautiful day out there…
Lets hope it keeps up, GOD knows I’m ready for spring, thunderstorms, camping, fishing, hurricanes… all that crap… lol
Looks like ole’ Blues will get 1 more year, and then he’s out… And next year will not be pretty… (Patterson, Meeks, Liggins, Stevens) I think are all gone… Pat-Jodie to the NBA, Liggins- Stewart to other teams…
WXman, put smiley faces after you mention UK’s not going to the dance, proves to me what kind of person I’ve known you are all along… Lot of class there WXman…
…
WOW..
You have so much class…
I bet your parents are proud…

SHEW!!! you aint the only one,,,you type out a 600 character comment and what happens it goes into MODERATION…:(
LETS TRY THIS ONE MORE TIME!…

“THIS DEEPENING LOW WILL FORCE A STRONGER COLD FRONT TO SWEEP SOUTHEAST
ACROSS THE FORECAST AREA TUESDAY NIGHT. THERE APPEARS TO BE A SOMEWHAT HIGHER RISK OF SEVERE CONVECTION WITH THIS SYSTEM.”
Looks like PAH is the only office in Kentucky to even mention it. Gosh that is so frustrating.
I know you think I’m not a UK fan, but I am. I just hate watching them go downhill. Really, it’s been slowly downhill for them since 1999. It’s sad to see. But my Alma Mater has VERY rich BB tradition so it’s not the end of the world. And Kentucky has other schools to be proud of and cheer for. I want to see UK excel again, but that ain’t gonna’ happen for a while at least.
WOW!!!!…check out my local forecast from NWS in JKL for sat…
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 77. Calm wind becoming south southwest between 5 and 10 mph. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.
………..
77* !!!!….YEAH BOY!! BRING IT ON…Can I GET AN 80* FROM SOMEONE IN S.KY??…now that’s spring spoiling weather…:)
Looks like it is going to be a nice one!
i agree outside of some cold spells was very very tame for SE KY
Rolo tends to hide when he’s wrong about something.
How can you say that you’re a UK fan when you put A smiley face after saying UK is not going to make the dance..?
You’re not a UK fan, admit it and move on…
…
But we all know there is only one team in this state :)…GO WKU
there should be at least a slight risk for both events i also got the impression both of these events were being underestimated by the nws after 2 misses with severe weather you would think one would side with forecasting a risk for severe weather.
I do think March will finish at average or just below average with temperatures. If so, that would make 4 out of the last 5 months below average..and that would be something I can’t remember happening. We’ll see..
he’s lucky I’m not the AD. I’ll have the memory of an NIT basketball team the year i graduate and 95% of the problems can be traced back to him.
I agree 100%. But each year this happens. Coming out of Winter, nobody wants to talk about severe wx. So it takes people getting killed to wake forecasters up (i.e., what happened last February). They need to start talking about t-storms more and forget snow.
Golf anyone? 🙂
The markets are scary
NEW YORK – The Dow Jones industrial average has fallen another 200 points today on new concerns about the stability of General Motors and the ongoing uncertainty about the financial system. In afternoon trading, the Dow is down 228.35, or 3.32 percent, to 6,647.49, a low not seen since April 1997.
I forgot I am at 67 in Pikeville wow.I still want snow.GO BIG BLUE and go out the door BG!!!!!!
Good one feederband lol!!!!!
i agree 100% and its 62 here in Knox
If the day has 100% insolation Saturday, it’s not crazy to think that a few stations in Kentucky might flirt with 80°F. Talk about being spoiled.. that will ruin us all.
From Accutrash:

Also: “We could be looking at 5-7 days of severe weather that spreads all the way to the East Coast.”
Afternoon, fellow weather fans! HOpe you have had a chance to go out and enjoy this beautiful day! WE have 64 degrees here in Somerset as I write this. It has been mostly sunny, but with a few high clouds here and there.
Chris, thanks for ordering up such weather for the next few days! That is only going to make it even harder to go back to cold! But, whatever comes, we will deal with it. We always do.
AS for the CATS,……sad, sad, sad…first time since 91 that they have not made it to the big dance. What a shame. Bring on spring Football, and lets get going!
y everyone wishing for spring im ready for FOOTBALL TIME IN THE BLUEGRASS!!!!
Um, let me set something straight here. Do not give me this crud about taking people getting killed to wake forecasters up in reference to the 5-6 Feb 2008 event.
I worked in the days leading up to the event and it was well advertised in the forecast products that we could have significant severe. Yes, the initial emphasis was to our west and southwest, but I can assure you we were NOT asleep on that event.
this is why i can’t be a metorologist. I cannot stand this time of year longer days milding weather dramatically decreasing snow threats day by day and boring thunrderstorms:(. I’d love to get study winter storms and east coast low’s and the freezing rain deal for the lower OHVLLY but ultimatley its december through feb 28 as far as realistic snow threats go, and not just in ky even in minnesota april through october is snowless and i just have no interst in tropical weather. Alasaka even, it only snows so much out of the year (in the cities) the only places with a good nine or ten month winter are above 10,000 feet and or are isolated greatly from civilazation where there are no meteorologists. Its a tough reality to face this time of year yep, soon it’ll be southern california for 7 months, high 70-80 lows mid 60s and chance of showers otherwise sunny. ice storms and blizzards are my thing, i am headed to some places with the 9 month winter so i can experience it. man i love winter warlock!!!!
Tommy I love winter too.I have even thought of taking a travel assignment for 3 months to Alaska seriously.
Tommy I love winter too.I have thought of trying a travel nurse assigment in Alaska.
I just wanted to appreciate the Bailey for what all he has put into this blog…. I started just because I love tracking all the winter weather but I stayed because I found out in the end I just weather!!!
sunday and tuesday still have a severe threat my thinking for a third much colder system late next week stronger than ever after the 00z gfs.
