Good Sunday afternoon everyone! While we know about our snow situation here… areas to our south and east are getting hammered by a major winter storm that may grow into a full blown blizzard in the northeast.
Parts of Tennessee picked up more than a foot of snow with deep snow on the ground into the heart of Dixie today. Places like Birmingham and Atlanta got thumped by heavy snows. Atlanta even reported thundersnow!! Areas from the Carolinas northeast to New York City and Boston are expecting more than a foot of snow to go along with 30mph winds. Wow!!
I decided to post some cams for you from some of the areas that will be hardest hit. Here ya go….
Atlanta
Winston-Salem, NC
Greensboro, NC
Richmond, Va
Fredericksburg, Va
Alexandria, Va
Arlington, Va
Washington DC

Philadelphia

Trenton, NJ
New York City

Long Island
I also have some radars for you to track this winter storm. You will notice just how close the snow is to southeastern Kentucky… just throwing a little more salt in the would…

I will have an update on the weather ahead with my next update later tonight. Spring is coming for a few days later this week but it is likely to be a false start as winter is not over. ![]()
Take care.

i was born in richmond, va and lived there two years parents said december 89 was cold, not too snowy though
Go here for streaming cams from Clemson University to watch the snow there. It began about 2hours ago. There are about 9 or 10 different outdoor views.
This is my hometown area located in the nw corner of S.C. Snows of this type usually occur there 1-3 times a season.

has anyone noticed, the snow is getting closer to Pike Co.? it’s flurrying here right now.
are you trying to depress us even more by posting cams of places that actually get snow ?
i have folks in RI who are expecting 8-15 inches from this and thundersnow. the gfs has a warm-up till the weekend then an arctic blast for the middle of the month, i won’t bite till the euro shows it.
Highest snowfall reports thus far in the Carolinas are 9 inches with a long way to go.
my grandparents live in charlotte, nc and annandale, va they are both reporting snow
Warnings update from near 6pm in nw S.C. is warning of downed trees and power loss due to heavy snow and high winds.
Charlotte is likely in for even worse conditions.
well only 3 cameras working 1 it has quit snowing and the other 2 it will be dark before it snows there so it may not be as depressing won’t be able to tell a whole lot when it gets dark 😀
CB that not even funny, i cant believe u post them radars and stuff. bummer..
I’m happy for those southern state kids. They will remember this forever. It snowed twice in 1973 in Houston and it was the first time I ever saw snow. It was so much fun. The neighborhood kids spent every daylight moment outside playing.
It didn’t snow again like that for the rest of the time I lived in Texas!
Looking like Phelps might be getting something….
That storm is so close to me here in Pike County I feel I could just reach out and touch it lol!!!!
All right what are your thoughts on the Vegas car race???? I am picking a very long shot Jeff Gordon.
My sympathy to these poor people who are going to be without power. I hope it gets turned back on soon.
Where you been Gordon is anything but a long shot at Vegas lol try maybe JPM that would be a long shot 😉
I agree with you about the southern kids and snow. I lived in southern NC and we had one good snow in the four years we lived there. Since I moved back to KY, NC has had more and deeper snows than us here. Go figure!
Chris, Who cares? Remember…”BRING ON SPRING!”???????????
Chris go ahead and admit winter is over. Not meaning we will not have cold temps or a flurry here or there just meaning no big snow. If for some odd reason we do get an accumulating snow it will not stay on for more than a day or so. 🙂 Oh well, thanks for always keeping us posted. For any 13th region fans, Bell had the drawing today and you can find out who plays who at http://www.khsaa.org. Clay drew south for the boys, and on the girls draw, Clay drew Corbin.
south jersey where i grew up till 6th grade is getting hit hard now. it snows less there than here due to the ocean.
feb was 1 above norm near and above norm i think march wuill be warmer than norm
in that case winter hasn’t been here in 11 yrs 😉
I hope your right about the warm weather in March. Winter has been very disappointing here in Knox Co. (less than 5 inches total snow). I’ve given up until next year. Who wants snow now when it can be 60-70 degrees outside? I don’t mind the snow in the cold months, but it’s actually time to get outside and enjoy the warm weather. Time changes next Sunday.
NC is currently getting thundersnow and rates of 2-3″/hr. Why can’t that sort of thing ever seem to happen here anymore?!
For the sake of “the next one” afterall it is March not May, I see what I think is one more shot at a large snowfall for Ky. Before the first day of spring. Impossible to now. How much? Well up to one foot. At least it is in the cards.
Is anyone else getting error messages on some of those cams? My dad in Brevard NC said they got 2 inches and the snow stopped.
I went out to walk the dog before bed, and to my great surprise it’s snowing here in Lexington at 12:15 a.m. I came in to check the blog and there’s no blue for Lexington on the radar, but snow is flying at a pretty good clip. Guess it’s just a stray snow shower, but it’s more actual snow than I saw during our storm yesterday. Guess it could be the last snow I’ll see until next winter, (sadly, for this snow lover,) but maybe Chris was alluding to more snow possibilities in the weeks to come. Guess we’ll have to wait and see. Oh, and Chris don’t beat yourself up too much about missing this weekend’s forecast. Nobody’s perfect, but you sure do come close in your forecasts. This blog has been a real joy to me the last two months, since I rediscovered it–thanks for all the time you put into it!
It Snowing here in Letcher Co.
