Good afternoon. I am putting this special blog out to remind everyone to play nice on the blog. The name calling and bickering is out of control leading to scenes like this…
So.. let’s all take a deep breath and play nice with each other. If not… there is a certain guy in a big red suit is keeping a close eye on you right now.
I will update things later so make sure you check back.
Take care.

You read my mind my friend. Keep it up.
And what happend to the clipper that was supposed to work through here today? Did the big storm steal all the moisture?? You didn’t mention it in the last post.
Sorry CB:
I made a frustrating comment towards the NWS and I think someone took it personally…
BTW:
in your pic of the 2 guys fighting, it looks like the blonde dude is getting his butt whipped. I mean, look at him… no teeth, black eye and there appears to be blood on his right hip… lol
…
Question for Mitch or WXman or anyone that knows the correct answer…
When the forecast gives a percentage, say 30%…
Does that mean that there is a 30% chance of precip, that we will have precip for 30% of the day or that 30% of the forecast area will get precip..?
This has always confused me. I’ve watched it rain so hard that i couldn’t see the house across the street and the percentage was 30%… Well, in my neighborhood, it was 100% … lol
…
Thanks Chris I am glad somebody is watching us just kidding. Thanks for all you do Santa.Vinny how much snow did you get? I would say about an inch stuck at my house, but it finally made me realize it can snow here.Big beautiful flakes too.Santa bring us all a snow machine lol
Crystal:
unfortunately, I’m still waiting on the snow…. lol
I had some nice sleet around 2:30pm, then the dry slot hit and that was that…
…
That would mean that 30% of the forecast area is going to receive precip. So, where you are…you have a 30% chance at seeing something.
Its not the first time that has happened Vinny so don’t feel guilty
WXman:
Thanx a bunch! Now i know something i didn’t when I woke up this morning… lol
PS:
I have to give it to your HillToppers..
3 straight wins over quality opponents and the only close game was Georgia…
Maybe our teams will play down the road, if you know what I mean…
…
Don’t get me wrong…I’m a UK fan like everybody else. I just have to cheer for my school first though, you know?
My wife says it is snowing in Louisville now, and since it just started she can’t tell if it’s going to stick or not.
Oh, I completely understand…
You’re talking to a die-hard Steelers fan trapped in Bengals country…
It’s gets pretty rough sometimes… lol
ALL my friends root for the Bengals and man do they let me have it..! lol
…
have some very light flurries
in Knox
I think we need to all load up and go rolo’s and get Billy G the goat to give us sleigh rides…LOL…:)
Well you all thought this last storm drove us all INSANE… the weather pattern is going to a pattern that will lead to KY. being the Battle ground for storms…GREAT!! just what we all wanted to hear…artic air to the north, spring time to our southeast and we’re sandwiched in the middle like a big piece of bologna on bread..MMM…lunchtime..
Chris isn’t kidding about a wicked temperature spread next week: on Monday highs in south Texas are forecast to be in the mid 80’s, while in North Dakota, they are forecast to be in the mid 10’s – below zero! Gotta love the spread on the Great Plains!
tim: just like the past 3 winter seasons
big ridge in the southeast, won;t let
the cold dump south of the ohio river
Yeah, we’re at about the mid-way point (in terms of latitude)between ND and S. TX which would put us in the middle which works out to our favorite place to be in storms: mid to upper 30’s, and we all know what that means!
more like the last 10 winters…
yeah chris tis the season to be jolly and with all this beautiful snow on and this close to christmas come on guys and just be happy watch some frosty the snowman tonight and have some hot coco with the family my freinds take care and god bless everyone out there and happy holidays especially to our ultimate weather dude bailey!take care
I started reading this blog when I heard that CB was leaving WKYT — I didn’t want to lose my favorite weather dude. However, aside from CB’s weather information and fun posts regarding weather trivia and history, this blog has been a big disappointment. I couldn’t believe what I read last night on the blog as it snowed in parts of the state. I live on the Woodford Co./Franklin Co. line and we had NO SNOW last night. However, I did not whine publicly about it on the blog, nor did I attack other weather professionals on the blog. I appreciate CB’s dedication to KY weather, but I can no longer read the negative comments and “where’s mine?” comments anymore, either.
as a vistor to a nws office before i know they will be able to anaylize what happened and improve off it. they work very hard at getting the weather infromation needed out to the public and improving on the products and statements they issue.
just my two cents
next week looks like an impressive battelground will set-up!!
santa gives you a cold rain for christmas if you’re naughty and a nice snowcover if you’re good!!
Same here…only mine is Morehead State. Both CB and I are alumni, but he never says a word about his alma matre. Oh well. Go Eagles!!
Chris I’m am sorry I will be good I was going to asked santa for Snowny back but i guess that out of the question now because i was a bad girl…..
Here’s the little clipper moving through, just as CB predicted… Is this guy amazing or what..?

May see a few snow showers/flurries in the Lexington area shortly…
…
I read this on accuweather..LOL…
FRIDAY 2 PM
OKC SWEEPSTAKES AND… A GREAT POINT AND CLICK.
The 50 for Monday in OKC on the GFS is now down to 30. If it keeps falling at this rate, the number will be in the teens (don’t laugh, Monday p.m. may be close).
(JUST goes to show how artic air bleeds and models have a hard time catching on)
Now a point and click doozy… the ultimate snow showers from the Pac Northwest.
Tonight: Snow showers. Steady temperature around 9. North-northwest wind between 6 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New snow accumulation of 30 to 36 inches possible.
Snow showers? From 30-36 inches of snow showers in 12 hours.
………………………
BOY Dont you wish our snowshowers would produce 30-36″ of snow…skiers have gotta be loving that one…lol..:)
The 12Z GFS has freezing rain written all over it for next week.
Speaking of which…did you all see how bad New Hampshire got hit with this storm? Probably one of the worst ice storms ever up there.
I must say that I don’t envy any of our local weather forecasters, NWS or commercial stations of the job they have to do around here. I think Kentucky has what is likely the most unpredictable weather in the entire country precisely due to the fact that the battleground always (at least for the last decade) sets up right over the top of us. If you live somewhere where the battleground isn’t, its pretty easy (relatively speaking) to predict with a modicum of accuracy what will happen in a given storm even 1 or 2 days out. For instance, in Indiana, if they say its going to snow within a given range, most of the time they are fairly accurate because they are not near the “fence”, whereas here being the fenceriders that we are, a slight shift in a storm track can mean the difference between 55° and sunny, and 25° with snow. While it is true that with every snow event no matter where it is, storm track is the real determining factor in snowfall amounts, the general weather in a given area is fairly predictable if you don’t have to deal with a battle line.
Given these factors, I think they do a pretty good job predicting events, particularly CB, who seems to have a sixth sense that nobody else does!
It’s been snowing in Frankfort since about 2:15 p.m. Nothing sticking yet.
you did nothing wrong Marsha just an ego got bruised and it wasn’t your fault
this would be awesome If it happened

the prospects are there big time. a key sign of frz rain as the precip type is when the 850 temps are over 32 and the surface temps are under 32. that 12z run had several chances of that.
very light snow falling in NW Lexington…
WXman, the ice..??? It’s for SE KY not Lx area right..? lol
…
vinny: it is to early to determine where the battleground will exactly setup next week.
one area of lgt snow setting up along 1-64 moving ese through lex another one clipping far northern ky
vinny, looks like that clipper is gonna give those folks that got 4-6″ of snow, a little more to go with it..lol…MAYBE!. looks more like a northern ky. snow shower event to me and its all headed where? you guessed it to snow hog bailey’s house..LOL..LOL..(although he did get short changed last night to).thats gonna be his new nick-name..SNO-HOG-BAILEY…That little clipper has got its eyes on ashland and Bailey’s viewing area of the tri-state.. well here’s hoping for lots of snow in the coming days. and HOPEFULLY NO ICE STORMS!!! that makes me cringe just thinkin about it…
Vinny you are right, Chris did call for a clipper. Is there anyway we can get him back in Lexington? He can name his own price and timeslot by now I’m sure.
on that note, i remember talking to the late Brian Collins from wkyt asking him
kentucky winter wx forecasting problems
he told me kentucky was always the hardest to forecast winter snows ( of course he’s the dusting of february 1998
which over a foot fell in lexington )
Unfortunately nothing more than mere eye candy…always looks good from several days (or a couple weeks out)!
Andy is showing a sweet model run there for Christmas day. I know its 2 wks away, but the models have been picking up on this storm for over a week now. it picks it up then drops it and moves it. now its back to a big ohio valley snowstorm…NOW THAT WOULD BE A SWEET CHRISTMAS PRESENT!!!
Dwayne, I like your style and optimistic way of thinking! This should be the new theme for our weather blog…let’s keep the warm fuzzies cranking for all the blog peeps.
Lisa, I hope you change your mind. I know sometimes the comments get a little out of hand, but there are twice as many that are A-ok. It really is a great weather blog, and I hope you keep reading and commenting with the rest of us winter weather junkies…or as Tommy puts it…weather weenies, lol.
Ok…what is up??? It is snowing in Lexington!!!!! Not complaining…but ??????
Man, I love the snow that Corbin got.
But funny story here – I woke my three-year old up to show her the first big now in her life and she ran to the door and was screaming happy UNTIL she ooked to her right and saw that the heavy snow had broke her very own Christmas Palm Tree in half!!!
She told me that she didn’t like snow after that LOL.
Snowing on the south end too Vinny.
Did it supposed to snow today???
Looks like that clipper is getting excited over northern and eastern ky…it had its V8 this morning..lol…
sun actually popped out here earlier for a few minutes. just enough to make everything go drip, drip, drip…(and I didnt have alot to make drip anyways..lol)
Just a little clipper moving through…
It won’t amount too much, but our very own CB called it..!
…
A pretty good light snow is falling right now on Lakeville in Magoffin County.
Light flurries still in Versailles. And when I say light I mean LIGHT!
