Good Friday, everyone. Rain is rolling across the state over the next few days, but the focus of the forecast is on a big blast of winter rolling in. This gets started Sunday and carries us into next week as arctic air gets involved in the overall pattern.
Today’s showers move through fairly quickly, with some afternoon breaks in the clouds a good bet. Temps will be on the mild side with 50s across the board…
Afterย a break tonight, rain increases on Saturday as our big storm system works right across the state. Winds will be very gusty as temps continue to run on the mild side of the thermometer. That changes in a hurry from west to east Saturday night and Sunday as MUCH colder air works quickly in. That changes the rain to a period of snow and then snow showers take control. Here’s the NAM…
The Canadian…
That model run suggests some snow may stick as temps drop into the 20s Sunday…
Winds are going to be very gusty as the flakes fly. Temps keep dropping throughout the day and will reach the teens during the evening. Low teens should be common by Monday morning with a wind chill near zero.
Our arctic front then slams in here on Tuesday. The GFS is just now really picking up on this thing…
The Canadian Model for the same system…
High winds and a MAJOR temperature drop will be noted with that system. This should have a pretty hefty band of snow working across our region, and that will likely cause some issues.
Check out how the Canadian Model adds to the snow totals from the map above…
The numbers behind that for Wednesday Morning…
The GFS isn’t as cold, but it’s getting colder by the run…
Wind chills at the same time…
As you can see, this is a very active winter pattern taking shape. With the blocking that’s developing, things can really get cranking in a big, big way in the coming weeks.
I’ll update things later today. Make it a fantastic Friday and take care.
Brrrrrrrrrr!
Fireball!
Are the Canadian models in metric/centimeters?
Are the Canadian models in metric/centimeters?
No, it is inches.
Thanks Chris. IT would seem we are in for a bit of winter weather for sure. But I will tell you this, I would rather have it now, in January and February, then to be having it in April and even into May, as it seems we have the past few years! My only tought is, if its going to be that cold, we need a good snow to go with it! ๐
Have a great Friday everyone! Thanks again Chris, and we’ll be looking forward to the next update!
Agree ๐
Alright…who’s ready for sun and surf? ๐
Thanks Chris for all you do for us!!! Snow lover I am but I am like the Coffee Lady, when March gets here I want it to start getting warmer. Last winter lasted too long and by the time we got the last snow I was done with it. Can’t wait to see what this system brings in the way of snow. Not a fan of the cold!!!
I hope these two snow events pan out better than the one from this past Monday. I could count the flakes I saw on my hands. Locals in my area are leaning more toward rain with the dreaded backside flurries.
The local mets in my area are saying that we will be lucky if we see any snow at all.
Are you in Bowling Green?
Louisville might get a half inch to possibly a inch of snow if lucky
