Good Saturday, everyone. A very active winter pattern is kicking off across our part of the world and is threatening to lock in for the long haul. This pattern gets cranking this weekend as a storm system brings rain and snow to our part of the world. As a matter of fact, there’s an increasing chance for sticking snow late tonight and Sunday.
This system rolls right on top of us tonight and then off to our northeast into Sunday. Temps ahead of this will be well into the 50s on a gusty southwesterly wind with rain increasing. MUCH colder air will quickly sweep in on the backside of the low. This will help spawn a band of snow that wraps in behind our storm. You can see that well on the European Model late tonight into Sunday morning…
A band like that can overachieve and is something we will need to watch for as it works out of western Kentucky into central and northern parts of the state. You can also see the NAM trying to do something with that…
If that band is for real, a few inches of snow could quickly fall wherever it passes. As that band moves through, snow showers really kick in on that strong northwesterly flow. This action can drop an inch or less in many areas. Icy roads may develop Sunday as temps crash. Check out this plunge…
That kind of temp drop with snow falling after a period of rain can result in a quick ice up.
This brings us to the arctic front screaming into town on Tuesday. A squall line of snow may accompany this front…
That can cause some issues as it moves through. A quick accumulation could combine with 30mph winds to create some blowing snow.
Temps behind that drop into the single digits by Wednesday morning. The Canadian is still the coldest…
The GFS is getting closer with each run…
Wind chills from the same model run for Wednesday morning…
That’s just flat out cold, my friends!
Watch the end of the week into next weekend as more arctic cold surges back into the area. It will be doing so at the same time we see the southern jet stream cranking up. Fun times appear to be just getting started.
I will have updates later today. I leave you with your tracking tools for the early part of the day…
Enjoy your Saturday and take care.
This is the most exciting blog post in a long while for KY snow lovers!!! Can’t wait to watch all this play out this weekend and next week!
Looking exciting for winter outdoor fun with my little girl in the coming weeks!
Hopefully like in the previous high wind systems, the wind helps to mainly dry the roads off. It might seem like a giant snow globe getting shaken a few times this week.
Thanks so much, Chris.
Looks like some decent snow chances coming up. Definitely cold.
I’m a snow lover and I’m quickly reminded that last years’ snows came late in the season. Hang on.
Go Cats & Bengals!
Thanks Chris. My crystal ball tells me there is about to be a lot of interest in the blog, and lots of comments! And also that the weather is going to be a hot topic of discussion . Thanks for doing what you do. Looking forward to at least seeing snow showers. Hoping for more than just showers ;). Have a great Saturday all. Go Cats and Go Bengals!
As I have said before, the prodigal children have returned home (a.k.a. the blog).
Snow lovers want at least one big snow each winter, regardless of previous seasons. 🙂
Thanks Chris! This is going to be exciting!!!! And COLD..❄️
Be safe everyone and enjoy the ride.
I don’t take to much stock in the weather channel but there saying 1-3 inches snow at my world western ky in union co . Go Cats and Vikings!!!
I believe on Thursday I commented I bet there will be a midday update
I told my coworkers on Thursday we will have at least 2 1/2 inches of snow. If we get it I’m going to win some money. Now granted I am on the Indiana side of Louisville
Me & Thelma Lou are ready for some snow.
SO EXCITING. I am from Michigan and Colorado. I love cold, snowy weather. If we had a few mountains for skiing that would be awesome.
That wraparound late tonight/tomorrow looks very nice for us snow addicts. Plus, let’s get the cold rolling, the southern jet active and watch for the fun to start. Rodger in Dodger!

This looks like a progression of CB’s heart if he watches the Bengals lose another playoff game.
⛄⛄⛄⛄❄❄❄❄ can’t wait.Is that thunder snow out in Oklahoma Missouri or just how it looks on the interactive radar??? I really enjoyed clicking on a live car and seeing a video of the snow. Thanks Chris!
Finally get the chance to break out the snow board and do some measuring. Hopefully, between the initial melting and wind-blown flakes when it is able to stick.
Sounds great CB! I hope we can at least get a couple of inches.
So ready for some snow!!!!
