Good Thursday to one and all. We are enjoying some awesome weather across most of the region today. This will carry over into Friday before things take a turn toward the stormy and wet side into the coming weekend.
Today will feature temps starting out in the upper 50s to low 60s for many areas. Afternoon highs in the upper 70s to low 80s will be the rule.
Current Temps
A weak system is working eastward across the Tennessee Valley early Today and will throw some clouds our way. This may also bring a few showers or isolated storms into our southern counties. You can see how close this gets here…
Friday will start off on the cool side with temps into the upper 50s to low 60s yet again. Warmer winds will blow and will lead to a nice rebound in temps with low and mid 80s a good bet. Clouds increase by the end of the day ahead of our system moving in for the weekend.
This will be a rather potent storm diving in from the northwest on Saturday that will then deepen once it gets to the mid atlantic states on Sunday. We have talked about this for a while and it’s something you normally see in the cold season and not in the middle of August.
This will bring widespread showers and storms in here for Saturday and some of these storms may be on the strong side. With plenty of juice available… heavy rains are a good bet. As the low passes by to our east… wraparound rains will be likely for Sunday. The GFS is rather bullish on rain weekend rain totals…
Sunday looks like a cool day that features temps down into the low and mid 70s for much of the time. Winds should be rather gusty, too. As the low pulls away… a very pleasant Monday appears to be in the works. Check out the cool look on the GFS Ensembles during this time…
Not a bad way for mother nature to run the middle of one of the hottest months of the year! ![]()
A few thoughts on the longer range…
– I still don’t see the heat ridge moving back at any point over the next few weeks. That doesn’t mean we won’t see a hot day or two… but this is a much different overall pattern.
– Another big trough may try to dig in across the eastern half of the country by the end of next week.
– All signs point to an big increase in Atlantic tropical activity over the next week or two.
Have a great Thursday and take care.
