Good Tuesday, everyone. A band of heavy snow is working quickly across central and eastern Kentucky. This is putting a thumping wet snow down for some areas. The greatest accumulations look to be in the areas I’ve been highlighting, but with such a tight band, totals can vary greatly.
If you want snow, here’s hoping you get it. If you don’t want snow, here’s hoping it misses you. I’m kinda in between the two, but I’m already getting snow as I write this. 🙂
In addition to the snow, many areas across southeastern Kentucky are under Flood Warnings. Please keep a close eye on the creeks and streams.
I’m setting this blog up to purely track the early morning snows, then I will update the rest of the pattern with a midday update.
Let’s track this headache producing band of snow and high water…

Enjoy the day and take care.
About an inch here in Eubank, hoping we get at least 4!
Does anyone reside in Greenup KY? I’m wondering if there is any snow there at the moment? & how much is expected?
3.5″ of new snow in Mt. Vernon, since midnight. Still coming down heavy, and sticking to trees and power lines.
Pouring big snowflakes in Clay county. Let it SNOW!!!!
It completely missed Harlan as the moisture exited the region without the cold catching up, which CB had very little forecasted for the extreme SE KY area…so no bust here with the forecast…just more envy for other locations in the state as usual:{
Probably two inches if that in my area of Richmond. My street is ok for travel, so off to work it is! Have a great day, weather buddies! 😀
Yep, looks like the main stuff was more east. Just as well, since would have been a slushy mess.
1.5 to 2 inches here in Berea. I was expecting to get up before dawn and be faced with 4 to 8 of wet snow and was very, very pleased with what I saw.
Best next day road conditions I’ve seen yet this winter, so this whole thing turned into a non-event compared to the build-up for it for OUR city really and we’re verrrrry happy about it.
Bubba is right, once you go to the dark side, you get to enjoy the localized busts instead of being hugely disappointed.
No snow here in Knox. We were in the 3-6 , but like CB said it would be a bust for some areas. We usually end up on the low end of the totals here anyway. We missed out on both big storms last year. I’m kind of glad we missed this one. Four inches of snow on top of slush would be a mess. Bring spring. Pretty much a dud this winter.
We have had 14 or 15 inches of snow this yr in Knox so I’m satisfied with what we have had considering the late start
I thought you said you didn’t get a whole lot in Bimble in the January snow Andy? We had decent totals here in town with that one.
I’m ready to move on to spring now. This last one was a mess to get out in. Hard to keep your feet dry. Lol. I’m glad we missed out on that one last night. I like snow, but not with for inches of slush underneath it.
I wouldn’t know what Bimble got. We got 9 or 10 inches combined from 2 storms in Jan but not 9 or 10 from 1 event as some had in Jan.
No flakes here on Carrie of knott county. Still drizzling rain temp stayed at 33 all night
Definite bust in Lexington – I see someone posted on Twitter 2 inches in SE Lex – I live just outside Man O War on the southeast side and the deck rail is hardly covered.
At 10:30 pm last night even the NWS was still saying Fayette Cty was in the “zone” for up to 5 inches.
Just goes to show how hard winter weather forecasting is and that all that supercomputer modeling still has limitations.
So who did get the “smack down” if anyone or did the dynamic cooling just not win out anywhere in central KY like the models predicted?
Nothing new last night in Wayne County. Thelma Lou says she’s glad we don’t live up North, she loves snow but only in moderation!
Nothing in my part of Knott County. It was 34 when I went to bed and its 34 now.
We got hit pretty hard here in Mt. Sterling. Not sure of the totals, but everything is covered back up pretty good after the rain washed a lot of the snow away. My street actually looks worse this morning than it did yesterday after having been scraped. Guess that thumping wet snow is making clearing the roads more difficult. Just get me to the weekend and 60 degrees.
Not the first flake in Middlesboro and I couldn’t be happier. Looking forward to an early taste of Spring and mid 60’s by Saturday with no rain or snow!
Why does the page keep crashing and reloading when I try to view on my iPhone or iPad (using Safari)?
I was wondering the same thing. Happens to me too if I touch any map.
The Ohio border counties with WV are on a level 2 snow emergency do I would say they are the winners lol
not much here for me in Athens ohio, level 2 due to the slush build up on road, been two cars so far thats wiped out on my street
Rodger says enjoy the warm up but it will be cold again around the 23rd and more snow chances thru early March. Another late winter for us. Rodger in Dodger!
Last night system had BUST written all over it. The chance was there but never materialize with the accumulations that were forecast. To CB’s defense and most mets you could tell they weren’t going to bet the farm. If your relying on dynamic cooling to occur in my opinion that’s a 50/50 shot dynamic cooling is never a sure thing. I’ve seen it happen before it’s a pretty awesome thing to witness just because the snow rates can be extremely impressive over a short period. It’s rare however.
Looking like a winter weather advisory for Eastern Kentucky tonight?
Maybe southeastern Ky. But this doesn’t seem to be much, maybe a dusting
We got about 3 inches at my house on the east side of Winchester.
Snow rain mix in WKy. I’m beginning to think them computers can’t read a map.
Winter weather advisory for north east tn.bordering ky counties ..1-3″ snow tomorrow morning
