Good Sunday, everyone. We have another awesome weather day taking shape across our part of the world. This mild and windy setup is about to give way to a little more weather action as we flip the calendar to the month of March. This is usually a fickle time of year for our weather, and the forecast really backs that up.
Highs today will be deep into the 60s for the entire state. A 70 is possible across the west. Skies will be sunny, but a strong southwesterly wind will steal the show. Gusts of 40-45mph will be possible through this evening.
That’s when a weak cold front drops in from the northwest. This doesn’t have much moisture with it, but some showers will fire up.
Our bonus day for the year looks windy with temps in the 50s.
The next system to impact our region zips in late Tuesday into Wednesday. That’s a much more potent storm that can bring a little of everything. Gusty winds and thunder will be possible ahead of it, with colder air and some flakes behind it. Here’s the GFS…
That model runs shows some decent moisture…
The European Model also shows a healthy storm system with a similar precipitation trend…
The model decides to ugly it up even more with another nasty system for Thursday and Friday…
Nothing good comes from that setup.
On a brighter note, the pattern may turn really warm the following week. Maybe some severe weather thrown in for good measure? The signal is starting to show.
I will update this thing later today… I think. It might be hard to get me in from outside. 🙂
Enjoy the day and take care.
Bring it on! 😉
Old school ,cold rain.
As meteorological winter approaches its end, many season-long prognosticators are going to remember this El Nino winter. I don’t recall many calling for above normal temperatures for the south. Most of them broadbrushed the south with below normal readings, or what ‘typically’ happens during an El Nino winter. Some in the south will have top ten warmest winters on record like our region such as Dallas-Fort Worth and New Orleans.
December really messed up everyone’s prediction for the winter. Nevertheless, CB’s snowfall map looked pretty good and that’s all that really matters, isn’t it?
Chris nailed the bold prediction of one major wind driven winter storm this Winter…no other forecaster would touch that prediction. Most forecasters let the models predict what is coming….Chris looks at the drivers such as the El-Nino, NAO, AO, PNA along with the models to predict what should happen. I really enjoy his weather blog and always look forward to reading it everyday as you can always learn something along with an accurate forecast. Maybe Chris can touch on the Summer and severe weather potential with a La-Nino developing over the next 6 months.
Winter is over folks. I’m not complaining. The transition to spring period is one of my favorite times of the year. I’m hoping for it to dry out just a little over the next few weeks. We need a couple of days with at least average temps, sunshine, without the hurricane force winds.
Get them movers ready! Vrrrrooooom!
Mowers, movers. Whatever 🙂
One last winter hoorah for Thurs & Fri maybe??? I need some winter closure in my life! Looks like if any system is going to do it, it’s that one. Then Spring flips the blowtorch switch.
Thanks Bubba. I need to move some stuff in my garage to get to my mower! And thanks to you Chris. Our family always looks here for our weather info. We appreciate all the time you put in.
Already a nice warm up out there today. Bring the Spring!
Mower is ready and we got the cars washed today. We are about to start doing our exterior house windows. Spring is here folks, and I am ready.
Thank you for sharing your winter knowledge Mr Bailey. Looking forward to an active Spring season.
As much I love snow, I’m ready for spring and summer to enjoy some camping and the beauty nature of earth.
Looks like that possibility of one to two more winter storm alert modes may not happen after all.
Hopefully the Euro model is wrong the end-of-week mess. GFS doesn’t see it although we might be within the window where GFS seems blind.
Those Euro maps could bring all types of precip including the three-letter variety that shall not be uttered.
Bring on the warmth Bailey… Im ready!!
