Good Thursday, everyone. Another shot of winter weather is pushing across the commonwealth of Kentucky today. Rain and wet snow will combine forces to put some ugly on this early March day. Temps will continue to run below normal into the weekend, but spring is ready to pounce early next week.

Rain and snow increases from west to east this morning. A decent band of wet snow will try to develop by the middle of the day across central and eastern Kentucky. This can put down some light accumulations, especially on grassy and elevated surfaces.

Much of what falls should melt, but it can snow hard enough to accumulate at times.

Some snow showers and flurries hang around tonight into Friday morning with readings in the upper 20s to lower 30s. Skies slowly become partly sunny with 40-45 degree highs for many.

Another cold front arrives by Saturday night and could bring a shower or two. Given the later arrival of this boundary, temps Saturday can surge well into the 50s on a gusty southwesterly wind.

Once we get past this system, it’s full steam ahead into a spring looking and feeling pattern. I’ve talked about this setup for the past several days and see no reasons to change my thoughts. Several days with highs in the 70s are a good bet next week. Given the overall pattern, rounds of thunderstorms may crank from the Mississippi Valley into our region.

The models continue to advertise some very heavy rain numbers over the next 10 days or so…
