Good Tuesday folks. Our heat and storms battle will be in full swing across the state today and this is the beginning of a nice little fight that will be with us each day into the coming weekend. This should be a fun watch for those of us with a ringside seat. ![]()
The heat wave that is gripping much of the country means business and will go down as a memorable one for millions of americans. The heat here is going to be impressive… but should pale in comparison to what others across the nation are dealing with. The main reason for that will be clusters of showers and thunderstorms that will offer an almost daily dose of relief.
Don’t get me wrong… we are going to be very hot and very humid this week into the weekend. We just won’t have it as bad as some of our neighbors. Here is a breakdown of our heat and storm headlines…
– The hottest air will be across the western half of the state. This is the area that will have the least coverage of showers and storms. Readings here can top out in the middle 90s with heat index values around 110 or better each of the next several days.
– Central and eastern Kentucky will be hot and humid, but the threat for showers and storms will help temper the temps. Any day that does not feature much in the way of storms where you live can produce temps into the low and mid 90s with a heat index of 105 or so.
– The hottest days appear to be Wednesday and Thursday as these days may produce more sunshine.
– Showers and storms today are likely to pack a punch as they dive in from the northwest. Damaging winds and hail will be possible. These storms will bring torrential rains that can cause local high water issues.
– The pattern from Friday into the weekend is ripe for showers and thunderstorms to fire up and the heat may take a backseat during this time.
– I want to stress… any storm over the next several days can produce a ton of water in a short amount of time. The tropical atmosphere will be loaded with juice!
– Next week should see the heat retreat back toward the west.
Let’s get you ringside now as we watch the storms and heat do battle with the tracking toys…

In the midst of a heatwave Florida is reporting record lows this morning, Jacksonville-65, and Gainsville-63.
The thunderstorm passed right over me in Bourbon County. I heard thunder for an hour before it started raining. Lots and lots of lightning and loud thunder but no wind at all and no hail. Could have been worse. Will check the rain gauge but I don’t think it was more than half an inch.
My mother lives in Ocala and said it was 63 there this a.m. She said she had to pull the sheet up over her because it was so “chilly”. 🙂
Mowed grass yesterday, lost about 5 pounds, Im not not ready for winter yet, but October weather is something I for one is looking forward to.(65to70 temps 🙂
My Mom lives in Ocala, too. I think all the heat’s been sucked out of FL into the midwest.
Wonder if winter will start early this year???
It’s funny to hear them talk about their weather and call it cold, isn’t it? It can be 20 degrees with ice and snow here, and Mom will tell me she’s not going out of the house that day because it is too cold, and it will be in the 50’s there.
