Good Tuesday everyone and welcome to another day of torrid temps. The heat across the region on Monday was absurd and will likely be so again today. A few booming thunderstorms should again crank up through the day as we await some cooler air moving in for the next few.
Monday was one of those days that made me go WOW! That is actually hard to do when it comes to weather, but the combination of temps and humidity took our heat index into an area I can’t recall seeing that often. It felt like 110 to 120 degrees for many areas and that is well beyond the danger category.
Today is going to be another dangerous weather day as the heat index should top 110 in many areas yet again… especially central and west. Actual thermometer readings will range in the low and middle 90s. If you work outside or have to be out for an extended time… please take frequent breaks and drink a ton of water.
Follow the sweltering temps here…

Today’s Highs
Parts of eastern Kentucky got in on some big time boomers yesterday into last night and the stage is set for a few more storms to move in today. Any storm that goes up will have a ton of moisture and energy to feed on and can go severe. Torrential rains will also be possible from any heat busting storm. Here is the latest on the storm threat…
Today’s Severe Weather Threat
Current Watches

A cold front will move through Wednesday bringing some more scattered showers and storms… especially across the south. The big news from this front is the MUCH cooler and drier air that moves in behind it. Our temps will come back down to near normal readings for a few days and that will be a welcome relief.
There appears to be a nice little weakness in the atmosphere from the Gulf into our region late week into the weekend. This should allow for scattered showers and thunderstorms going up each afternoon with the greatest concentration across the south and east.
The heat ridge will continue to bake the plains states and make the occasional run at us as we have been seeing from time to time.
As far as today’s heat is concerned… give us the temp from you are. I will drop by for updates as needed and will be a tweeting fool… or a fool a tweeting. ![]()
Have a great Tuesday, stay cool and take care.

today was the first time i can remember that we had dew point temps around 80 degrees. saw a thing on lmk nws site that said they didnt keep many dewpoint records, but had one for july 1995 in louisville , and the record in lexington was today. my wife said todays temps reminded her of living in houston, and ingleside tx
everyone check on pets and the elderly again today. i went outside to check on my kitties and the dogs several times yesterday.
It’s still 84 in Danville at 0528 this morning.
It didn’t fall below 80 in Lawrenceburg this morning. I briefly looked at the weather records, and lows of 80+ are not extremely uncommon in Louisville. In Lexington, however, it hasn’t happened since the 1930’s!
Ummmm yeah so its 8:30am Louisville is sitting at 86 degrees a dewpoint of 81 and a heat index of 102.I believe that Louisville has been sitting at a 80+ dewpoint for over 13 hrs straight.
Click my name to see where we topped out in Lawrenceburg yesterday. I love my Davis Vantage Pro2 station. This weather reminds me of 11 months ago.
Ok, I think LMK should extend excessive heat warnings east because many areas are seeing upper 90s heat indices already.
Been getting some much needed rain in my area of knox co. For the last couple of hours. Very heavy rain over the last 30 minutes!!
Temperature in Shelbyville at 9:45 is 88 with a dew point of 81.
Yeah, because people won’t know otherwise that is HOT outside!
It’s 10:38 here in Owensboro and the air temp is 93 with a heat index of 118 already!!! Dew point is 83. Needless to say, when you walk outside, it feels like you’re walking into a big, wet, heavy blanket lol. Those to have to work outside, please be safe.
Actually , there are people out there that don’t realize how dangerous that high heat indexes can be. For those people, there are alerts issued. As you should well know, not everyone is in the know as far as heat and humidity go.
Could we see any microburst cells at or around the outflow boundaries or will it just aid in the severe threat?
Yeah, microbursts seem pretty likely today actually.
Honestly, who wouldn’t love to see some snow on the ground right now?
ME!!!!!!
Every time I step out of the house or out of the car, my glasses fog up so bad that I have to clean them off before I can see anything. Folks, it is dangerously hot and humid out there, everyone take care!
A mix of rain and sun right now in downtown LEX with a temp near 90. Starting to feel a lot like the Indian sub-continent out there!
chris, when will you start looking at our winter outlook. thanks
These storms seem stationary….wish they would progress to the east and give Pulaski Co. a drink and cool off.
This winter excitement is becoming contagious!!!
Not contagious for me….. I already had it!! I personally like winter and spring the best, most active.
Haha I talk about winter in each of my comments LOL. You have any winter predictions pierce?
I actually am starting think that this winter will be BAD. I think we may have the big one, maybe two 🙂
lots of thunder and lightning in Nicholasville….constant rumbling. Storm has formed out of nowhere. Rain starting too…
Still not a drop here in my part of Nicholasville. Lots of thunder though, none stop for almost an hour.
BAD is “good” when it comes to snow, right?
Flash Flood Warning for Nicholasville and I haven’t seen a drop. I’m behind WalMart next to the new middle school. Nothing
folkd serious SITUATION setting up on going. GLASGOW parts under water. and u can se the radar exploding and there going be bad things happen. resues are underway in parts as well.
so DONT BE WISHING u was under one them storms, OK.
Yup 🙂
Do you think the boundary that set up from yesterdays storms will keep EKY from getting in on the action?
This is what happens when the CAPE is 5,000 joules per kg and you light a match. POOF. Radar just blew UP.
Sitting on my back porch watching the event to my south. The winds have picked up and it is much cooler, but the rain looks to be a non event for us.
yea WXMAN it cool to see actually.
DARA alot cooler were we got the rain this morning, so nothing big here. but the rain is building east a bit so we can see some showers.
Another solid inch of rain in Frankfort, 3 inches in 5 days. Great for the tomatoes 🙂 BLT anyone?
Considering the dew point’s in the 80s and the heat, that’s a pretty sad looking radar for the bluegrass
Nice storm here in Valley Station a bit earlier. Dropped about an inch. Some small twigs down. No big deal.
With dewpoints reaching unprecedented levels lately, I dug up some of my favorite calculations and found one for dewpoint. Posted on my blog earlier today.
Warning: the calculations can be quite complex.
I have other calculations for such things as heat index, wind chill, seismic energy, distance between cities using coordinates and great circle formula, etc…However, I just posted dewpoint for now.
Beans are blooming too. Soaking it up!!
Is this wind from the cold front or is rust not happening yet?
Rust Never Sleeps.
“Rust” was suppose to be “this”. Commented from my phone and auto-correct did that.
Blooming! We’ve been picking for about 3 wks here in southern ky. Already got the freezer full!!
