3AM Update
A TORNADO WATCH has been issued for much of western Kentucky until 9am CST. Here’s the watch outline and current warnings…
More updates as needed. Take care.
Previous Update
Good Wednesday to one and all. It is shaping up to be a very interesting day as severe thunderstorms are likely to rumble across the bluegrass state. These storms may very well pack one heck of a weather punch and I expect watches and warnings to fly.
Before we get to the tracking tools. I want to wish all the best to my good friend and WKYT Chief Meteorologist TG Shuck. TG announced he is resigning from WKYT to spend more time with family and Friday will be his last day on air. TG is a great guy and will succeed in whatever he decides to do next. Make sure to send him an email, tweet or Facebook message to let him know you appreciate his years of service. WKYT plans to announce his successor coming up on 27 Newsfirst at 11. Watch.
Back to the severe threat today. Rounds of showers and thunderstorms will be rocking and rolling today and these may be packing damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes. I have you set up to track the latest information from the Storm Prediction Center…
Current Risk
Don’t forget about the radar page at the top as it has local radars from all across the state. Here’s the regional radar for your tracking needs…
Be sure to sign up to follow my twitter feed. I will be sending out rapid fire updates, watches and warnings to blow up your timeline.
I will have updates as needed. Have a great Wednesday and take care.
Heads up: As of 1:05 am, the radar on this blog post isn’t updating with the one on the sideview. Its stuck at 12:00am.
Fixed now. That was quick! 🙂
Are you the successor,Just KIDDING lol???????? Good luck to Tg.Hes a great guy and so are you. Thanks Chris for all you do.
Oh how I wish CB was the successor!
Wishing that Chris would be the successor too. If not, hopefully WKYT will bring in a quality replacement and not promote from within.
Law enforcement out of Dent county MO, near where the tornado warning was in effect, is reporting widespread tree damage and power pole damage. Don’t know if it was a tornado or straight line winds.
Moving east at 70mph.
Several reports of tornadoes overnight. Not good at all. These storms are moving east and Kentucky are in the path. Been watching the chasers and there are still a few out there right now in this early morning hour. I expect to see some chasers in Kentucky somewhere as the day grows on.
I got this and thought I would share it…….
Forecast for Keavy, Kentucky: retrieved from the NWS:
Variable clouds with strong thunderstorms. Damaging winds, large hail, and possibly a TORNADO with some storms. High 66F. Winds SSW at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 70%.
Getting reports of structural damage between Oak Ridge and Pocahontas near I-55…Church damaged, barn down, windows blown out in residential area.
This is near US 61. Possible tornado touchdown has occurred. Several buildings affected.
These reports of damage are still in Missouri by the way
The news about TG shocked me awake at 4:20 this morning. Our dogs were barking at the lightning so I grabbed the iPad to see what the blog said about the weather. I am so sad to see TG go. He is awesome. Everybody knows there is only one guy who could possibly replace him. Only one!!!!
(and I’m sure TG knows that too)
As for the weather…lots of lightning and loud thunder for so early in the morning but so far the wind has not made the chimney whistle, and that’s my gauge of what I consider to be acceptable wind.
Let’s hope it’s not a day of tragedy. Everybody stay safe.
Well, I can never seem to stay awake for the 11:00 news but believe tonight I will have to make a special effort! I am with KP….only CB could replace TG.
Anyone know why the sirens went off in Frankfort this morning?
