Good Sunday everyone. What an amazing holiday weekend weather pattern we are seeing across the region. This is coming in at the tail end of one of the wettest springs ever for our part of the world. We have a big heat ridge to thank for the sunshine and summer temps.
We are not alone in dealing with the early season holiday heat…

Lets break down the heat and beyond…
– Temps today hit the mid and upper 80s for many with 90 in the west.
– Memorial day will be a scorcher as temps top out around 90 or better. Skies will be mostly sunny.
– Tuesday looks to see more of the same with near 90 temps and sunny skies.
– It will be interesting to see what impact the wet ground has on this mini heat wave. The ridge over top of us is a biggie and temps would really get out of control without the soaked soil.
– The ridge will shift toward the west by the second half of the upcoming week. This will allow our temps to come down and will also throw a few thunderstorms our way.
– We may eventually set up a kind of ring of fire thunderstorm pattern around this heat high as it sets up to our west.
Have a great Sunday and a safe holiday weekend. Take care.
I remember reading on here about the cooler to average summer temps. Think it was mentioned that the wet ground would have an effect on keeping temperatures down. With that said I could not imagine how hot it would be without this moisture in the ground then. The temperature map for Tuesday has some 100 degree temps for the eastern part of Kentucky, couldn’t imagine the temps if this wet ground is actually holding it back.
Looks like with the western U.S. being cool with the eastern U.S. being warm and humid the plains could be in for a very active summer. I just wonder if any of that shifts east a little and the storms end up over the same areas that have seen it all spring.
Great job on the weather, CB. Love this site and appreciate how much time and work you put in to it.
I am not looking forward to this heat. 70’s is warm enough for me and I was looking forward to a cooler than averag summer. I haven’t minded the weather we have had. I was hoping the pattern of one warm week followed by a cool week would continue.
I was looking forward to a cool summer as well. I like it when it is a little below average to average in the summer. But these extremely hot days, especially with the humidity make it tough to really get things done. Have to take many breaks and plenty of water to keep from overheating.
Looks like the western U.S. is still cool. Wonder if that shifts eastward soon and we go back to a cooler, wetter pattern. Looking forward to seeing what CB thinks so hopefully he will talk about what he thinks about the next month or so.
Me too!
At least we don’t have to worry about a drought…..I think that if it doesn’t rain the entire month of June or July, at the end of that, we would still be above normal precip.
Did anyone see this cool video of water spouts off the coast of Australia?
