Good Monday evening to one and all. Rain, fog and possible severe storms are combining to make the beginning of the travel period rather ugly. Something else that may make travel ugly is a storm threat for the weekend and early next week.
The models have been honing in on a mega closed upper level low that takes on a rather extreme look by Sunday and Monday. All of the available models show something similar to what the new European Model has…
That would be a rain to snow producer across our region and is one that has a shot to become a significant event somewhere in the Ohio Valley. It is way to early to tell where that will be or if it will even happen.
This is a setup that fits some of my analog years I am using for the winter forecast. I have made no bones about my thoughts on a big change to winter toward the end of November into early December. I even highlighted this period as one that can produce a winter storm somewhere across the eastern half of the country.
The upper low should be in no big hurry to leave us and would likely stick around into the middle of next week with the potential for more wintry weather. This looks to be the start of a winter pattern around here.
This one should be fun to watch.
Have a great rest of your evening and take care.

Thanks Chris for everything u do man…..
Chris–
I’m impressed. You are going against the grain here. The CPC, the NWS, and other media outlets are screaming warmer than normal through Mid-December.
If you are right, major props! If you are wrong–major props for trying to actually put some thought into your forecast.
You are the man!

tx CB as u are not goin againsat the grain u are going with what u learn and know.

PLANE,TRAINS and AUTOMOBILES!!!WOOOOOOOO
Last winter I followed this blog faithfully and was pulled in by the promising snow forecast. But this winter, I’m not biting the bait, not going be fooled hope for snow!!!
I hate to say it, but this year I just have no real desire for the snow. I want a quick winter and be done with it. I don’t know if it’s just left over disappointment from last years 50 “less than an inch”er’s or what, but I just want the sunshine and warmer than average temps to stick around. I’ll take one good snow and be done with it.
With all these cut off lows lately if they continue somebody will eventually get a blizzard..Right now IMO it sure favors the OV..Sure is gonna be interesting in a few more weeks if the pattern continues….Weekend storm has alot of potential for a little of every thing..Thats one big upper level low..Will be interesting tracking it if the models don’t change…Hard to pinpont though this far out…
This is what I agree with. If this pattern of these stays for a while, once we get some cooler air in place…look out.
