Good Friday everyone and welcome to the state of a long holiday weekend. Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start to summer and mother nature is ready to start things off in style with the hottest air of the young season. This is also signalling a change in the overall weather pattern we have been in for the better part of the past three months.
The slow moving low pressure that has been a thorn in our side over the past several days will finally begin to pull to our northeast today. Some leftover showers or rumbles of thunder will be possible in the east today and you can say goodbye to the drops here…
Skies will become partly sunny from west to east today. Temps won’t actually be all that warm as many areas top out in the lower 70s. That is a bit below normal for this time of year.
Current Temps
The real warmth arrives as we work into Saturday as our temps jump into the low and mid 80s under partly to mostly sunny skies. The weekend will feature a small threat for a stray thunderstorm… but it will be the heat that takes center stage.
Did someone say heat? Yep… temps will be HOT for this time of year as readings head toward 90 degrees from Sunday all the way into the middle of next week.
This is a definite hot signal showing up on the European Model…
That should make for some great weather for outdoor festivities during this big weekend. Maybe mother nature is giving us a little nice weather in return for all the ugly stuff of the past several months. Either way… I am ready for it!!
This marks an overall change in our weather pattern as I see the first half of June being on the warm side. This also means our the storm train will be slowing down. That is normally the case into the summer anyway… but it will likely be more pronounced this year given how wet we have been. That said… I expect our fair share of storms over the next few months that should give us normal to above normal rainfall.
The hurricane season is just around the corner and some of the models are trying to get it started off a little early with some action over the next few weeks. Never a dull moment in the world of weather. ![]()
Have a great Friday and take care.

Im actually glad to get a break from the Severe weather for a bit because I think the NWS Offices need time to rest so that they can actually forecast the weather without hyping up each system that threatens to reach severe limits. And yes as a tax payer I have the right to voice an opinion because everything they do is funded by tax payer money. Now you have Chris Bailey who is a private individual who has pretty much showed up the SPC and the NWS Offices on numerous occasions and even has brought a capability for 2 way communication for the public to relay and receive RELIABLE storm information which either NOAA can’t or won’t do for their own volunteer storm spotters. If I make anyone with NOAA mad, GOOD because NOAA is the only authoratative agency to sound the alarms and issue watches and warnings, yet is the least available agency to relay timely Life or Death information to. Change needs to happen! After all that is what we were promised in 2008, Change. Yes We Can!!!
I am glad it is suppose to dry up a little as it is a swamp here. But I remember just last month the predictions were for above average rainfall and cooler temperatures through the summer. If June is on the warm side how does that change the outlook for July and August. All that moisture in the ground that was suppose to help moderate temperatures is there but the heat is suppose to hit anyway. So is the prediction still for a cooler summer or is these temperatures in June being on the “warm side” a sign that we are in for a summer on the “warm side” instead of cool to average.
My question exactly, Jessie! Is the forecast altered for the summmer now?
I hope no one over-hypes the nice weather we’re going to have this weekend.
Its gonna be SO SO SO HOT! Better crawl in a cave somewhere!!! Its gonna burn the top of your heads and kill your whole garden!!! Bad hotness is gonna happen folks!!! Get ready for your car bumpers to melt, Kentucky will be a wasteland when this is over!
LMAO. 🙂
EVER HEARD OF XANAX? Gosh, you really can’t let things go can you? It is a WATHERBLOG for crying out loud. You acted like a little kid throwing a tantrum the other day and I agree with the others, it was pretty pathetic. That being said, a cave is nice and cool this time of year…

Just imagine how hot it would be if it wasn’t for the wet ground
At least I use my same login name the whole time. I’d bet the farm that I’ve been pushing the buttons & gettin’ under the skin of only ONE person for 2 days now.
LMAO.
I see you would did there 😉
This is true!
Nope, wrong answer.
That was my thought, also. If the temperatures are on the warm side for June with this wet ground, how hot would it have been otherwise? So friendly weather dude, does it look like a cool to average summer with more rain than normal or does it look like it might be a little on the “warm side” (comparative to average)?
On a side note, I want to say me and my husband love this weather site. Much better predictions than anywhere else. Chris Bailey does an excellent job. Love how you can call it a few days out while the others seem to wait until the last minute.
