Good evening, folks. As our mild Christmas week rolls on, it’s time to focus on the storm system rolling in here for the weekend. This will bring a lot of rain, wind, thunder and a big temp crash to our region. It should also bring a few flakes in here before the year is finished.
I’m still liking the consistency of the GFS with how it’s handling our storm…
The GFS Ensembles seem to agree…
Heavy rain is the primary concern for Sunday and Sunday night and this could cause high water issues. The placement still has to be nailed down and you can see a little disagreement from the GFS and the Ensembles…

Regardless, that’s a lot of rain and it could come via some thunderstorms. A few strong storms will also be possible, especially across the west.
A dry slot is likely to come in behind this on Monday as our low wraps up and closes off in the Great Lakes. It may come just enough to the south to bring a few flurries or snow showers into the state late Monday through New Year’s Eve. The Ensembles show the flake chances…
I doubt we can get any kind of sticking snowfall, but some flakes may fly.
Enjoy the evening and take care.
LOL! Look at how as the map flows to frozen precipitation, it goes over Kentucky, flush with the border. That’s powerful stuff.
Over the border. Not over KY.
You know lots of people get on here and say winter has just started blah blah how come we don’t say the same around June 21st because summer always shows up before the summer solstice and stays way past the fall solstice come on winter has been nonexistent nobody’s fault it’s sad but November is the only winter we’ve had so far
We will safely make it into January without any major cold stretch. Six more weeks of temps trending downward. December is historically a colder month than February. Once we get to mid-February southern Kentucky hits 50s for average highs. If any snow is going to have staying power it will be in this six week stretch..
If it’s cold in one place, it’s hot somewhere else (displacement) and a net sum gain of zero. Any met with cred will tell you that.
Wrong ,February can be as cold any month of the winter season. Historically it has happen and will happen again.Dont let mother nature fool you .
Yep… it only takes ONE storm and we’ve seen that winter can be non-existent up until mid-February, then turn cold until the end of March. I hate averages because you can have bitter cold one half of the month and above-average the last half of a month and it evens out, showing the average temp to be balmy
